also i want to respond to cborders post because i disagree, but it will inevitably devolve into politarding, which will tilt me. so instead i compromised with this passive sidenote of disapproval. ill also add in a mad face.

That's a grown man move.

Wow, really?

There is a ton of research shows that men are better than women at math/logic type problems, which is a significant component of poker. This may be why almost all top mathematicians are male, and why there has only even been one woman ever to be in the top 100 ranked chess players. Also, men are generally more aggressive/risk-averse than women, which probably also gives them a distinct advantage. However, I'm not sure this can be proven or is particularly relevant anyway, so it's better left aside.

Nevertheless, even if you reject the above argument, the Ladies' Event is still good because it attracts women the game who otherwise not play at all. In regular tournaments, women are often verbally abused at the table, and generally have a far worse playing environment than men do. There are women who are literally waiting all year for this event, and for it to be ruined for them because some guys can't pass up the EV is kind of sad. This is a tweet from last year:

Quote:
Saw a lady get busted by a guy she got up crying saying she waits all year for this. Pretty crappy imo...

LOL at anyone playing this tournament under the guise of "equality" and things like that. I wonder how many things outside of the Ladies' Event you do for this cause, or is it only this tournament? Just admit you're doing it because you think you have a good ROI and move on.

Some good quotes from last year's thread from tdomeski/billy bibbit/bakes et al.:

Quote:
pretty pathetic to play this event. those pictures aren't even funny. have some self respect, man. women fly from all over the world just to play this event. they do it under the assumption it is a ladies event. i don't know why you would want to ruin that for some women that genuinely look forward to this every year and spend a bunch of money and time coming out and playing. you get tons of media attention/hype as it is why are you whoring for more?
Quote:
Ya and the dressing in drag is probably in attempt to increase that ROI by a few % points too. Just a joke. Take the day off, play online, grind cash, whatever. I think playing this tournament as a male because you think you have a sick edge is absolutely pathetic. I won't change my stance on this so it's probably not worth arguing about.
Quote:
Seems pretty pointless to talk about a buyin increase given that they make the buyin as small as possible for a one time, mass attraction kinda deal. I don't like men playing in this event at all, it is designed to be a once-a-year gimmick to attract more women to the game. Shaun playing this tourney dressed like that mocks and alienates women and goes completely against the spirit of the tourney, and what I consider to be the spirit of a professional.
Quote:
I doubt there's a more overplayed, unfunny joke in the world than guys dressing up in drag.

I'm actually not sure what's more pathetic, playing this tourney to be an attention whore or doing it for the EV.
Quote:
In a word, classless.
I mean any guy who plays this event is basically spitting in the face of people who do want to have fun playing and is pretty disrespectful. If you really disagree with what's going on then tweet about it or discuss it on the forums, but pretending to make a point is pretty sad, especially when this event isn't going anywhere and you're just ruining it for people who want to play.

That is why I'm doing it and I have no further comment on the matter.

TFT knows far better than me, but I thought discrimination like this is perfectly legal. It's not housing and it's not employment. Pretty much everything else is unprotected. Remember when that tranny was trying to play women's tennis? They changed their rules to say you had to be born a female. Otherwise I would think washed up NBA'ers like Allen Iverson would be suing to play in the WNBA.

Any guy playing ladies event should just donate winnings to breast cancer research or something like that

I'd do this, if anyone wants to stake me I'll donate my portion of the winnings.

Could be worse. They have a half-dozen tables outside of the normal Rio poker room.

On the subject of the ladies event, I said this last year but I think there's a huge difference between what Shaun did; which was make a joke out of it, dress in drag and donate a large % of his winnings to a women's based charity and people that are just playing it because it's a soft $1k. Obviously being a man does not put you at an advantage, but as has been said before, women travel all over the world to play in this event and it attracts a ton of people to the game that would have never have started playing otherwise. I wouldn't go around calling people 'classless' or 'pathetic' because as poker players they're in their right to enter an open event, but I wish we lived in a world where it didn't need to be said that men shouldn't enter a tournament especially for women.

i almost always agree with you mickey but in this case I think that even considering playing a tournament for seniors just shows very little class and a lack of capability of thought process beyond 'omg so +EV'

why did you think it was necessary to register the ME a month in advance?

you can call 702-777-6777 but it says right here that you are not registered and that you have to finish registration when you get here
