nah in america you need a license to drive, to sell liquor, in nyc you need a license to allow dancing inside a bar/club (100% true), but nah, don't really need one to exploit a cause or you know, have a gun

September has to be better than August. And hand egg ball season starts.

FFR 2p2 doesn't allow posters to ask for donations to a charity for obvious reasons.

One thing I def dont miss from the states is cashiers hitting you up for donations. Youre gonna make me say no I dont want to help stop children's cancer, or take my donation and use the funds raised as PR. **** off.
My former golf coach, an insane Kiwi, was asked at the grocery store if he wanted to donate $1 to w/e the hell thing, "No thanks, I'm saving for a helicopter."

In that case I will redirect my Nigerian nephew to another forum. Shame, cause he had a really good business proposition.

I used to be a huge skeptic about charities until I worked closely with them in Bosnia. The reality is that raising money costs money - a lot of money. Typically raising money costs 30% to 80% of the money received.

It's ****, but there is rarely a way round it for established charities with long term objectives. The difference a good CEO makes is huge - paying a guy 6 figures for doing a job makes all the sense in the world if he brings in a lot more than that in effectiveness. It's really silly to expect a charity which plans to lay a thousand miles of water pipes to raise the money for the project and get it done by using only volunteers.

Of the money that does get raised, a huge amount gets "wasted" - bribes and corruption are endemic when money is used in the 3rd world or in conflict zones. But at the end of the day, it's a choice between paying or giving up and getting nothing to the people who need it.

In Tomislavgrad the Croat HVO brigade commander gave me a presentation on his logistics set up and CAFOD was prominent on his wiring diagram. I spoke to CAFOD and they confrmed that food they brought into the area was split between the army and the population who needed it: the army got the tinned stuff and the civilians the rest. the alternative was giving the civ pop nothing,

One of my personal heroes, a fat Swiss ex heroin addict with serious BO called Herve ran Red Cross logistics - I've met very few people with his level of courage. He had the knack of convincing seriously evil murderers that he was a good guy and that they were simply misunderstood - as a result he got a higher proportion of aid through to the people who needed it than almost everyone else. Of course to do this he had to get drunk and socialize with murderers, torturers and rapists - at great personal risk. This was something many others --including me-- simply could not stomach.

I changed my attitudes thereafter and now I'm happy to give even if I think I may be being ripped off. I might get screwed 80% of the time, but the other 20% is what makes the real difference.

And Herve? - he got off with the hottest chick in the country - a woman who made me go weak at the knees every time I looked at her

Politicians gonna politican. I would comment on how politicans do not deserve pay but do not want to start a politard war.

Thanks for the share Gramps and Peru.

IDK they less you pay them the more important outside money and post term jobs become as an influence on their decisions.

The image is troubling from the surface, but this whole thing is just theater. Noone is up there trying to sway votes; that goes on behind closed doors. Theyre just getting their opinions on the record for their donors and constituents and trying to get a sound byte on the news cycle. Im pretty sure Mccain knows how everyone is voting and why.
