I don't think CTRs are specifically to prevent money-laundering, they are more to prevent someone in a cash business from massively underreporting their income (which is what I strongly suspect Emo is doing here...) Catching money-launderers is simply a nice side benefit.

The main reason to be worried about the CTR is if you don't plan on reporting the income. In the grand scheme of things, we're not actually talking about that much money here, so it's not like 75k immediately puts you on the feared "International Baller Watchlist"

To further IMO, structuring would be far worse than filling out the form because now it looks like you have something to hide. Yeah assuming they noticed, but also assuming they gave a crap about your CTR out of the thousands likely filed everyday.

i agree, why would you care about CTR if your taxes were going to be on the up and up?

funny thing about this country -- you could move $1M all over the place repeatedly to different island and offshore bank accounts and nobody cares

but the moment you start saying things like "jihad" on the phone, you have 35 FBI agents up your ass

Well, I just attempted a very big wire withdrawal (brag?? even though I'll see none of the money), hopefully it works without:

- the IRS or some other federal agency (Patriot Act goons?) getting all up in my ass
- my smallish bank being like "wtf! Insta close your account for online gambling"
- some other horrible possibilities I can imagine

This sucks, I feel like I have no money in my account and I'm kinda sorta semi busto, now I can't even properly tilt reload.

I guess the good news is I shouldn't have this problem for 2010 considering I've lost 250k so far ...
