You see it lots of places that this particular thought isn't for public consumption. Without sharing information, you're left with NC stuff. Why would you post excellent strategy when few people would have a serious discussion to help find where you screwed it up and most people would revile you for posting something real?
Poker is far from dead, and anyone who thinks that the advice given on forums somehow made games unbeatable has never visited MSLHE.

I do agree that there is a large annoying subset of players who think it's somehow wrong or irresponsible to give out information on poker, but that's also not just a modern development. Remember Eric Seidel didn't want to use hole card cameras because he didn't want people to learn how he played?

I'm pretty sure the decline of 2p2 can entirely be tied back to Black Friday. I've never been to the Pokerstrategy forums, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was still plenty of poker discussion over there. When this place lost 80% of its American posters, it was killer.

Didn't he get banned? And then about 20 gimmicks thereafter also banned?

I just figured they eventually put ip blocks on him.

Man, nostalgia is a really powerful emotion.
It gets worse the older you get.

Agree. Micros was a great community of people around the world. Losing the American players didn't mean there weren't still people playing LHE, but it did mean that there weren't enough to have a critical mass to have a community.

New players aren't coming in as fast as old ones are leaving, due to the more difficult depositing and playing conditions.
IMO, this is the only cause that matters. Anyone on (name the forum) who has a wild theory of destruction of poker that doesn't feature this is missing it. If infinity of Joe Average people want to take up poker for real money, games will 100% be good. If not, chances are they won't. Add in the efficiency of many of you guys getting all the monies, and there aren't many people who last a long time who are seriously bad. For online poker to work, you need a new player base.

I was donking around on Full Tilt play money. They raked the pots, lol. A horrendous amount too, $15 on a $375 pot.

You should ask McNeese about it, he's like the end boss of play money 7CS.

Man, if you guys are looking to watch someone play poker who knows next to nothing about poker, I highly recommend Dutch Boyd's Twitch streams.

But he has three bracelets.

If you could read souls live and know some guys hand just by looking at him, wouldn't you miss that when playing online?

If you were a mod, you would know I was wrong.

I initially wrote down two, then searched it, and then changed it before anyone saw it

It's fun when your email notifications pick up those last minute edits the poster thinks they got away with.

Haha, I did not know that can happen. I am sure I have gone off on a poster at least a few times and then deleted or edited afterwards. And I am sure I have just said something totally idiotic and wrong countless times, but gone back to fix it in time.

Your ninja edit was perfect. Maybe a forum mod could see it, but from what I can see you just nailed it... assuming 3 is the correct number. Now we just need someone to go on a rant about live pros. Also, is post by post email notification even a thing? That would create instant lifetilt, imo.

Judging by the way Dutch sweats out mincashes in online tournaments, by the way he begs for Twitch subscribers that make him like $2 a month, and judging by the way he plays poker... I'm not really sure that he qualifies as any of type of poker pro.

The extent of what I knew about Dutch Boyd before this discussion:

I attempted to watch a couple minutes of his stream, but it was a 9-handed single table NL tourney.

That sounds like the only thing worse than playing a 9-handed single table NL tourney

Dutch got himself a sponsorship gig, but it didn't go off as smoothly as he'd have liked.
