Look, in any community there are standards of acceptable behavior that are going to be one size fits all with the hope that the group will have the best overall experience. Granted that may not be fair, but life often isn't.
If the community has a whole thinks we should have gender specific restrooms and locker rooms in schools, I don't see how saying use the one that matches your genitalia is a civil rights violation. We are talking about kids here. We don't let them drive, drink, smoke, enter into contracts, etc.
By the same token I think the North Carolina law is in effect the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. It only fires everyone up and tells transgendered people they can ignore it and may get the cops called on them, or follow it and definitely get the cops called on them.
