That was his exact weirdo argument like 2 years ago too. Maybe he just really is that dumb.

They ARE comparable ... in the context of this discussion. That is to say, neither gender not skin color are relevant.

Gay people in the UK are happy with equal civil partnerships, and why not they are genuinely equal to civil marriages ? My view is broader than minor issues. Marriage is inextricably linked to gender and sex so it's best left as it is unless there's a very good reason to change it.

And it just so happens there's a ****load of reasons to change it.

Well apparently you're wrong. It is changing, ergo there obviously is a very good reason and your superior intellect is apparently defective.

all of a sudden i'm thinking that going back to get a physics degree might not be the best idea.

The context of this discussion is marriage and they are not comparable. I would happily marry someone of any skin colour but not someone of any gender. I think that would be a showstopper for most people.

The UK politicians know a bandwagon when they see one.

Dude, just come clean with us and maybe we'll respect you a little bit more. Not a lot, mind you. You're against gay marriage because either you have some hang-up with being gay or because the Koran says it's a sin. Like, either one of those terrible, terrible options would make you look better than this bull**** semantic hand-wringing.

I'm not trying to be nice. Troll or not I despise you (congrats, the list of people I genuinely hate and can never like was only 1 long before), so I mix it up with trying to get you to follow a little bit of logic (never works) and saying mean things to you (while staying just far enough away from an infraction). Keeps me entertained, so...

He is, but it's unclear if he's actually serious about that argument.

Do you understand the concept of 'separate but equal' and why it's a bad thing?
06-30-2013 , 11:29 PM
Must be down to differences between US and UK. He doesn't realize that government here isn't synonymous with which party controls Parliament (we don't have a parliament here, cwoc) so he doesn't understand just what goes into changing something like this. He probably thinks Obama is the Prime Minister and this is all being done at his whim ever since he said gays should be able to get married.

The Jewish people in the UK are very happy with "separate but equal". They have their own Eruv in North London (the biggest in Europe iirc) and their own Beth Din courts. It need not be a negative thing.

So that would be a "no, I don't understand the concept," right? I mean, my condo is separate yet equal to my neighbor's condo, but that's really not at all what the 'separate but equal' phrase refers to. It's ok to ask for help if you're having trouble here.

I think the most important thing to remember here is that Mat Sklansky kicked a bunch of us non-gays out of the other thread and now errrrrbody is posting in here and not there. I will not be chained.

lol

Yes, we all understand that you don't like one and (overtly) don't care about the other.

Now GO TO THE NEXT STEP and tell us why anyone else should give a **** about your own personal subjective preferences.

Are you trying to be bigoted ? That's how it comes across.

"Why would you, as a black Muslim, even want an education like I, a white Jew, got?"

had to be a diploma mill this guy went to. Who's in the UK? Who can tell us the Phoenix University equivalent?

No, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy in your position. Everybody else understood that already.

Don't get hung up over precise words. I support pluralism ie respecting the differences of other groups. Here you go.

"a. a condition in which minority groups participate fully in the dominant society, yet maintain their cultural differences.
b. a doctrine that society benefits from such a condition."

And to anyone who doesn't agree it's sheer bigotry.
