Black people in America.. Black people in America..

08-07-2014 , 06:37 PM
In England a black skinned person is called black. I don't mean by name, I mean descriptively. This is due to the fact that black people have black skin, and 'black' is the easiest, most distinctively obvious feature of of black person. By the same token (lol token) Chinese people are called Chinese, The irish are drunk, and the Scots are tight.. Boom! .. (don't worry the Irish and scots don't care about stereotypical racism! - Their too drunk.. )

But really - African American - is just the most bull**** **** ever? No? wtf?! Why don't white people in America call black people black?

I generally call people by their names.
08-07-2014 , 07:15 PM
Are they really black though?

Racial identity is an individual construct.

What, descriptively? As in 'describe that man to me' .. Well his name is Wesley.. he's erm.. well what can I say, his name is Wesley.. What more do you want?!

He's white and about 5-10, kinda heavy, neatly dressed.

It's better described as a social construct. I assume you are referring to the self identification liberties extended under rights proliferation when you say that, and not to the rabid racist theories which say claim racial identification is some kind instinct. People self identify their race in this country, but their considerations when doing so are based on prevailing social constructs.

OP I'm willing to discuss racial nomenclature, what various adoptions by different groups mean/reflect etc, but not with somebody who starts off pretending to think that African Americans are literally the color black. The "I don't know I'm just asking" line and accompanying absurdly stupid and racist premise, like "I don't know didn't blacks have it good under slavery or now in prisons, three squares a day? I'm just asking" is not fooling anyone.

Preferred nomenclature is kind of important. My aged father took some prodding to transition from homosexual to gay. The statement "I don't care about homosexual marriage" from him sounded so queer.

Wait, what?

He always referred to gay marriage or gay rights as "homosexual marriage" or "homosexual rights."

Did I mix up the order in my post. The use of prodding and queer was just me being stupid.

I just watched Django last night, that is one wildass movie.

This is the order of postures towards nomenclature from worst to best. Regarding gays, homosexuals, black people or afro americans or whatever.

1- Referring to them as african americans to avoid using "Black".
2- Referring to them as Blacks to avoid using african americans.
3- Call them whatever ****** ****ing way you want, and let people say gay homosexual ****** black afro **** if they wish to, without going gosh darned bananas.

Shouldn't you call "white" people "peach" and "black" people "brown" if you desire simply to call people by their skin color? What about Mexican people, who are also brown? Are they "light brown" or are black people "dark brown?" What about light-skinned black people?

Also, why do Chinese folks get a pass on being described by their skin color?

Do you see now why trying to refer to people by skin pigmentation might get a little bit stupid?

Er what? When did I express a desire to have everyone referred to by skin colour?

'Do you see now why trying to refer to people by skin pigmentation might get a little bit stupid?' ]

- ER NO! You're one of those people who describes black people with out saying the word black, because you're scared I guess? It makes it really hard word all round.

Also, why do Chinese folks get a pass on being described by their skin colour?

Erm.. Think about it..

Ok, why do you incorrectly only want to refer to black people by their skin color and not anyone else? Doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

I did. It didn't make any sense. That's why I asked. Please, explain for the class.

Man, you Brits can't even manage to play nice with the Irish after like centuries. We're supposed to take lessons from you on integrating minorities?
08-08-2014 , 07:53 AM
Also, as a sober Irishman, can I please make a huge stink to get references to the Irish being drunk banned, but only from unchained?
08-08-2014 , 07:53 AM
I used to use homosexual until a gay guy I know here on 2p2 told me he thought it was slightly pejorative, so I say gay now.
