How about MTTs. The Phat 30k for example that has been going for 40 minutes. I was planning on playing a full schedule starting in about 2 hours. Are they running ok?

MTTs have been running well for the past 7 hours.

Hi everyone.
I am going to explain to you what is going on recently at WPN on some level of technicality so you might understand the situation a little better.
I'm a player at ACR myself , Cashgame , Micro Player (Not even a grinder!) playing 2-3 tables 10NL max!
And I'm not connected to ACR or anything. But I guess some explanation on the situation might help some people on this frustrating time.
So , What's a DDOS? (Simplified)
I have a Website. My website has a network that can accept 5000 viewers per second.
Now all of a sudden , somebody with control of a huge network of over 50.000 Nodes (devices) start to open my website in 1 second.
Booom , My website can't answer any other viewers. That's Called DOS (Denial Of Service)
Now , imagine 20 people with the same amount of devices available to them , from 20 different places run their attack (viewing my website) at the same time. now I have what , 1,000,000 viewers !!!!! That's called Distributed Denial Of Service.

How can we stop it?
First of all , It's really hard to mitigate a simple DOS attack , But imagine the attack is much bigger scale!

BUT a simple explanation on how the tech team is working on mitigating the attack at the moment:
Remember I told you there is 50.000 devices trying to view our website? (In this case , Open poker client app)
We have to identify WHO is really our customer and WHO is just a crazy dude who is attacking us. Drop the request from crazy dude and allow our customers to get through.
"Why can't you upgrade your internet connection to support 50,000,000 viewer per second" You might ask! The answer is , even if we do that , a person whose running this sort of attack is powerful enough to visit our site 50X as much as we can support! So believe me when I say it can't get fixed by throwing money at it and upgrade the uplink..

So , We go through some logs that we have of attacker and see some patterns on it. (For example , You will see a lot of IP's from a Country named X and Y trying to attack you.) btw , IP (short for Internet Protocol) is a unique identifier that everyone connects to internet has his/her own.
We close our website to them using our firewall. in the very next few minutes , We see attacks start all over again with a different set of IPs.. And this process goes on and on!
So WHAT WE DO?
We have to DENY everybody's access to website EXCEPT the ones we now are real.(Not bots , Not hacked servers etc..)
How can we do it?
We gather information through the web that tells us about well-known attacker's IPs. And will tell us the list of IP's that are real and in the hand of Customers (Not some shady Hosting provider that is known to serve attackers!)
It takes time to list ALL of the true IP's of people.
And like any other IT matter , there is ALWAYS False positive involved.
you might be blocked by mistake... You might not be "White-Listed" yet.

That's why some people can access the servers , And some Can't.

My suggestions to you:
# DO NOT USE any sort of Proxy , VPN , etc... to get access to site. Most of the proxy/VPN servers are listed as "NO People" at databases.
# Stay away from MTTs until a formal confirmation of REPS.
# for SNGs or Cashgames , start with a small game and check your status. If your okay at 2NL (Don't see any lags etc...) You will be OK at 2000NL as well.

### I suggest If it's possible for you at the moment , Don't try to play and wait for the tech team to finish their job.

And think about this , How much Can you earn per hour? $10? $20? $500? $10,000 ?
How much WPN can earn per hour? (I'm not saying numbers :-D ) Beside the fact that there are a massive amount of people who will stop using WPN and their reputation will suffer from this situation in the long run.

Bottom line is , This is WAAAAAAY more -EV for them than it's for us (Players)
So stop blaming WPN for this and be realistic.

Sorry for my English. (Second language in a third world country) and for a LOOOOng letter.
I hope this post can help some of you guys to chill a bit.
Cheers.

Our time to clear the March Madness reload bonus has been effectively reduced by the DDOS attacks. I personally would have played the past two days. How about WPN giving an extension to clear to compensate for the missed days?

thx to mohsen for the detailed explanation.
--

allright guys, SNG's are back up in the lobby, 2.0 lag in between hands has been fixed and 2.0 prize pool distribution is showing properly now. We are ready to rock.

NOTICE: I am assuming mr. big boy hacker is gonna try hitting us again , hopefully not, but if it happens it will take a couple of minutes for us to sort out the bad traffic and mitigate the attack. So if it happens and you get dropped, try re-connecting once every 3-5 mins (not every 3 seconds).. and be patient know that we are on full alert 24/7.

I am confused right now. We went months without hearing anything about ddos attacks but now it/was happening because wpn had to switch isp lines to an unsecured line. So is wpn still using the unsecured line now or went back to the secured line? if it is the latter why should anyone be concerned about ddos attacks anymore?
04-06-2017 , 07:01 PM
months went by without hearing anything from attacks because we had good enough settings to mitigate easy and fast and hackers just get tired if they dont see results. Months going by without hearing from attacks doesnt mean we didnt have them.
--
at the moment we are back on our Original line, but because of the ISP issue (and the change they did to fix it) we have had to (our anti-ddos sec company) re-configure security filters and configurations, every hardware and ddos attack is different which means that settings might still need to be adjusted in order to adapt to the attacks as fast as we did before this darn outage.

Good to know you have a good team!
Now, since you are all with such energy, what about a brainstorm to SOLVE once and for all the jackpots hand history?
I am sorry - different subject, I know - , but while I know you guys are working on it (at least "you" told me so...), this is taking soooooo long! It's such a bad thing one cannot work on his game offline because there is NONE poker tracker who can accept and analyse those weird hand histories!

Simple question,

Is it worth firing up some MTTs tonight?

The last two days were abysmal. Today has been "fine." Proceed with caution, though. Recommend staying away from cash games, since tourney buyins are guaranteed the buyins back if it crashes. [Mod edit]

From my understanding, it goes back one or two hands and reverses the money that was earned or lost during the last one or two hands...

I'm just making assumptions.

[Mod edit: there I fixed it for you]

I've been one of those mindless bots many times.

I play full-time and I always have a backup plan when a tournament goes down. While I'm waiting to see what happens to the tournament I can study or do something else. I also have a TV in the office.

Here's where it gets a little weird for me:

I'm waiting for a tournament to see if it comes back up, and everyone at the table is on chat, asking what's going on, when will it be back up, will I get my money back, etc.

I'm looking at the ACR threads so I have at least some idea of what's going on--but when I update the players at my table, they ask where I got the information. If I tell everyone at the table about 2+2, I'm tapping the fish tank. I've decided, reluctantly, to just be a jerk and let all the other players freak out.

FWIW, I played on ACR earlier this year and I'll be back, but right now I'm concentrating on grinding up a small bankroll on another site (from $34 to $186 so far.) There are things that I like, and things that I don't like, on both sites, but the other site has one big advantage.

This year on the other site I have played about 80 small field MTTs, which usually finish in 2-3 hours. I have played at all different times of the day and night, weekdays and weekends. In that time, not once has a tournament lagged or frozen.

That's a tough one. I am in the minority on this. I like long slow, deep tournaments. I even plan when to sleep so I'm not too tired to play for 8+ hours. I like having big effective stacks so I can play speculative hands for a while. Also, once a build a big stack I love having a bunch of short stacks to scoop up after they start the tournament with M < 20.

On the other hand, I agree that playing for hours and hours is a lot of exposure and the deeper you go, the more you have to lose. I think about that every time I choose a tournament. My nightmare scenario is being a top five stack, ready to take on the final table, and everything goes down with 12 players left.

That was a very fine ESL post, especially given all the technical language you were dealing with. Great job.
