I was going to post a video from youtube of the song "I-65" by Duane Steele that I knew LKJ would like, but apparently he's too obscure to be on youtube. **** youtube. Listen to the song, LKJ.

I have it on my computer at home, but I'm at work, and when I get home I probably will go straight to watching hockey. I'll upload it to youtube in June.

Or find it yourself.

Where in Wash are you from? Whats the weather actually like? Been talk of moving out towards Seattle but Im not sure Id enjoy it being wet and rainy every day assuming that is truly what its like.

I'm from the northwest corner. Also went to undergrad in the southeast part, so obviously different climates.

Overall I think it's solid weather, but it depends on what you like.

I like that it was perpetually moderate weather. It stays between 30 and 80 for basically the whole damn year and rarely gets colder or hotter than that. The lack of extremes is nice.

As to the rain, I'm thinking a lot of people have a bit of a wrong idea. It shows up on a lot of days per year, but in terms of total rainfall Seattle isn't in the top 25. The rain is almost always just a light drizzle, and while it appears frequently it doesn't stick around for long. Midwest rain is so much harder and more obtrusive. Same for the south. Washington rain is pretty mild despite it being frequent. It's like what lettuce gets at the supermarket.

Fair warning: you deal with a perpetual cloud cover there. A lot of people find that to be the most depressing part, that the sun simply doesn't poke through there nearly as often as it does in other places. The cloud cover helps keep the temperatures moderate, but it comes with the cost of many days of dreary gray skies.

I guess the cloud cover would probably bother me more than the rain. I do enjoy sun. Lack of extreme temperatures is nearly perfect in my mind though. I hate cold especially.

Ill preface this by saying Ive only been in Seattle for all of 2 hours as this may be a dumb question, but, is there a lot of beaches/beach activity? Sand/swimming/boating etc or is it not consistently "hot" enough for most of that. Hell there may not even really be beaches for all I know about geography.

There are beaches, but California it is not. Summers are awesome though, as the weather is consistently nice and doesn't get over-the-top hot. I'm especially intolerant of extreme heat (so I hate Midwest summers), so that's certainly a bonus for me.

Hiking, camping and skiing are more the activities you'll find Washingtonians engaging in for outdoors stuff. There are great mountains and parks, and the lush green is everywhere (a benefit of the frequent rain).

My biggest gripe with Washington would apply to lots of the west: it's just really isolated and you can't drive anywhere unique from the area. Portland is whatever, it's just another Seattle but not as good. Beyond that, you're looking at driving like 13-14 hours to San Francisco or a little less than that to Yellowstone...and then there's honestly nothing else save for an extended road trip. I think it took like 20 hours when my friends and I took a marathon driving session from Vegas to home. I love that I can reasonably take a weekend trip anywhere from where I currently live in Indiana, can just get up and drive there; it's honestly a nice shock from what I grew up in, where there's just that one big city of Seattle and that's that.

Hmm I hadnt even considered the last part. That might be a gripe for me as well, although I havent traveled quite as much since hanging up the poker spurs. Do you ever go into Vancouver/Canada or is that passe

I didn't cross the border all that often. I don't have much useful to say about doing that. It was fine I guess, but I just never considered crossing the border to be worth the hassle and lines and what not.

LOL I certainly don't have a car to be trendy, most people I know with cars pretty much think it's completely emasculating to not be driving a brand new car at all times regardless if you live in a city like Boston or not.

I wanted to make my 3000th post in this forum, but I forgot about it and instead wasted it on this gem:

"Re: NHL Playoffs Gameday Thread (4/22/12): O/U on gameday threads for today: LOL RIVERMAN

I think I actually heard Hughson's heart breaking on that goal call. "

I don't know whether to post this post in threadzilla or here but anywho. When I just found out, right now, that PS may have purchased FTP, I've begun to think about how they were similar to what the WWF and WCW were in the Monday Night Wars. I would like to thank El Kabong's post that might have been deleted, but was quoted by rorrrr in threadzilla for starting this post, which was

Quote:
Does this whole Pokerstars/FTP takeover remind anyone else of when Vince bought WCW?
This could be TL/DR, but I just like to get this out there just for kicks.

I mean there were that period of time during 2008-2010 where Ivey, Antonious, and Durrrr were dominating the scene would be as the same as the NWO period. Not that I'm saying that Ivey, PA, and Durrrr are like the original NWO, though some of you may think that.

Also, how Isildur's signing to PS after getting screwed by FTP, when he got "whacked" out of $4 million, reminded me on how Austin was a hot prospect in WCW in the early 90s, while all the big name stars (Flair, Anderson, Steamboat) keep saying he should be a full-time main eventer, and yet somehow management did not see it that way. And then all of a sudden, Austin got injured and Bichsoff chosen that time to fire Austin. Now, that I mention it, the role of Bischoff in this whole FTP nonsense could be played by Lederer. Anyway, then before you know it Austin/Isildur went with the other competition and really prospected well from it and probably were the two guys that helped their respective company the most.

After all of that, FTP/WCW went on a collapse of good proportions and got bought out of the competition (I still don't know if its good or not with the deal between PS and FTP, but I would not be surprised if PS bought out FTP, just to complete the parallel.)

It is just really weird how this whole thing between PS/FTP could have a good parallel to the Monday Night Wars.
