I don't see anyway for that match to happen unless rusev loses the belt and generates heat by interfering in a championship match costing cena a win. Then it could be a big rivalry match cause us title with cena never happens again imo.

If we leave WM with a face champion, having Rusev go over Cena makes him have insta-main event credibility. I think Rusev vs. your neeeeeeeeewwwwwww WWE champion Daniel Bryan makes for a really strong post-WM scene.

WWE has to abandon the RR push first, however.

I get this, but I think Rusev is a gimmick with an expiration date and a peak somewhere below the WWE title, and it's the WWE, so if somebody's going to throw him out like so much bad milk, it's going to be John Cena, the guy the WWE trusts to clean the fridge on Fridays.

Nah- a post Brock Cena could easily just turn his America loving eye to Rusev and decide that he finally needs to be put in his place. Lana's going to come out and talk some ****- the Cena horns blare, away we go.

from cageside rumor roundup

Quote:
All signs are pointing to Brock Lesnar losing the WWE world heavyweight championship at Royal Rumble, though WWE is doing its best to avoid tipping off if John Cena or Seth Rollins will leave with the title. Lesnar looks to be leaving for MMA in April.

lol @ thinking they'll have Seth headline WM without a big name like Rock or Brock to be above him. If Brock loses, it's 100% lolcenawins.

Good for cena though. That guy needed a way to get over

On the plus side this could free up Reigns to take on Cena while Brock faces Bryan. Either way, I have one American dream match, it has one chance to happen, and it will be at WM.

I don't see either Cena or Reigns turning because 'best for business' aka merch sales boost attempts but who knows in the Grandpa Simpson era.

I'm not suggesting that either will turn. A good ole face vs face, changing of the guards match. I wonder if Reigns will be around when WM 33 is here...

Their really reaping the benefits of making Seth look so weak in his feud with Cena that its tough to put him in a WM main event right now. So they had Brock for 3 years and let him beat the Undertaker and basically just feud with Cena and HHH. The only worthwhile thing they did was his feud with Punk and even he's gone. Great job Vince.

Summer Slam match was great tho.

And I kinda like the notion, even if it wasn't super well executed this time, that the champ can be a more part time thing. Anything that moves the WWE towards a model where then can be a bit "less is more" is probably good.

They just applied for a trademark on Bragging Rights again and apparently that goes hand-in-hand with the rumors that have been going around.

Makes sense given the other changes to Smackdown.

Only drawback to me is that making Smackdown interesting means I'd have to start watching it regularly again, and that's a time sink, but I think the brand extension opens up a lot of interesting storytelling possibilities.

Most notably if they can make a big deal of who will sign the NXT callups it's a great way to build the people up as the debut and make NXT more relevant to casual fans.

I don't hate the notion of brand extension if they do what they set out for originally, namely that the rosters be kept completely separate and each get their own set of minor PPVs and only ever combine for shows at the four major PPVs, and also that they actually allow for equally big stars on the two rosters.

But the likelihood is that if they go back to brand extension it will be little more than splitting the world title apart and then having a B-show that has a title that they refer to as a "world title," while having every wrestler available on every Raw.

I have this crazy hope that they are going to treat smackdown in a brand split like a AAA to Raw and it'll just be a better produced NXT that Vince leaves alone. Call up a few people from NXT, take a few people that are good on Raw but not used a ton, and just turn it into this more serious wrestling show that's a lot more wrestling than talking.

A brand split is also great for lowering the number of PPVs each program has assuming they run it like the initial split and not the way it was towards the end (like lkj was saying). Suddenly each program has 8 ppvs a year instead of 12.

I would agree that the brand split shouldn't mean two title belts. Maybe the IC title can be the main Smackdown belt or something. As long as Smackdown isn't live, and probably even then, it's going to be marginalize and leaning into that is probably the best.

My 2K14 brand extension basically made Smackdown the Tag/Divas division, so they should totally do that.
Wrestling- NVG (SPOILERS inside view at your own risk) Quote

The way they did the original brand split was to have it so that there was one world champion in the company who could be called on to defend it against someone from either show. I thought that was a good concept and that it was crappy that they went away from it.

To have it that way is to still allow for a world title match on PPVs by both brands.

Maybe Bragging Rights doesn't mean Raw vs Smackdown, maybe it's HHH/NXT vs Vince/WWE
