I seem to have spear headed a revolution with Flair/Luger. It's gone from down 6-0 to within one.

I'll vote for MORE FLAIR and the 1992 Royal Rumble.

And definite thanks to LKJ. This is a great event.

Going to vote Flair/Luger by a nose. I wonder what could have been had Hennig been in the NWA around this time.

SOUTHEAST REGION MATCHUP #7

#1 SEED: BRET HART VS. OWEN HART (WRESTLEMANIA X)

Whole match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pdDHLnTL4Q

Owen Hart had hung around as a jobber for a few years in the WWF, just a generic babyface who was pushed as the Bret Hart’s little brother. In Survivor Series 1994, the Hart brothers took on Jerry Lawler Shawn Michaels and his knights of the squared circle. Owen was the only one to get eliminated; he blamed Bret and tempers flared. They had a fight but made up, and they decided to team up to try to win the tag titles. At the Royal Rumble, they lost to the Quebecers when Bret Hart could not continue in the match, infuriating Owen to the point that he kicked Bret’s leg out of his leg. This match was the result.

This match, which opened WrestleMania X, is an all-time classic. It is in the race for Bret Hart’s finest match, which obviously says a lot.

VERSUS

#16 SEED: JBL VS. EDDIE GUERRERO

Whole match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijUrwbivAFc

I will let Master fill in the kayfabe behind this match since it’s his nominee.

Eddie and JBL put on a match for the world title that is bloodier than almost any you will see in WWF/WWE lore. There was an intense underlying story and they told it well. I wasn’t watching at the time, so others could fill in blanks better.

VOTING ON THIS MATCH IS NOW OPEN. POLLS WILL CLOSE AT 11:53 P.M. EST ON TUESDAY THE 24TH.

I just couldn't get into JBL v. Eddie that well. I'm probably not the target audience because I don't like THAT much blood. I did see some nice technical merits in it, but Bret/Owen owns this matchup.

Here's the chair shot Eddie took during the match, and him backstage after the match with a special appearance by Johnny Ace. I need to watch both matches again before I vote.

I'm going to say Bret/Owen, but, damn, that was a vile chairshot, though it was really nice to have Mr. Excitement around to see how Eddie is holding up.

Royal Rumble '92 > Owen vs Shawn. Also for future rounds I think RR 92 is seeded way higher than it should've been. If this was a most popular contest I'd concur but this should be 10 or higher imo.

Bret vs Owen > Eddie vs JBL. I feel like Eddie/JBL is only memorable because of the excessive blood. If not for that it's a pretty meh match. Bret vs Owen is a GOAT match.

Out of curiosity what difference are you drawing? I was seeding according to perceived strength in a bracket. This being a contest that's voted upon, "most popular" goes a long way.

If I give Royal Rumble '92 a low seed upon reseeding, then suddenly one of the very best matches has to tangle with it already in the second round.

Popular =/ Greatest. I realize you seeded according to what knowledge you had then. Just saying it's not that great, it's just really popular.

No I know, popularity and greatness are different qualities. But do you think that I'm reaching a better result by, say, giving it an 8 seed and making a match like Bret vs. Austin deal with it right away next round?

LKJ, I have no problem with that but whatever you decide I'm ok with. Just wanted to give a bit of input since it looks like it's going to sweep Shawn/Owen.

I know it; please don't take my questioning as defensive at all. I want everyone's comments on these to make the re-seeding optimal.

I totally get what you're saying about how it's not really any kind of great technical wrestling, but it's just kind of a quandary that presents itself in that this ultimately is something of a popularity contest.

FWIW I have it penciled in as a #3 seed at this point, so it would get a minor drop. Other opinions on this are welcome though. And again I do plan to run my seeding by everyone before finalizing the remaining bracket at the end of this round.

NORTHEAST REGION MATCHUP #8

#4 SEED: RIC FLAIR VS. RANDY SAVAGE (WRESTLEMANIA VIII)

Whole match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8El4LSqLjM

Ric Flair won the WWF Title at the Royal Rumble, and though he was initially slated for a match with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania, plans were changed and Randy Savage got the title shot. Ric Flair revealed to the world that Miss Elizabeth “was mine before she was yours.” It was a great angle and storyline leading into a great world title match at the biggest event of the year.

This was one of Flair’s best matches during his WWF days, perhaps his very best. It’s truly annoying that Hogan v. Sid went on last instead of this classic.

VERSUS

#13 SEED: STEVE AUSTIN VS. KURT ANGLE (SUMMERSLAM ’01)

Whole match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpatrlZrLbM

Steve Austin, during his heel run following WrestleMania XVII, was part of the alliance and was defending the WWF Title from what, in kayfabe, was outside the company. Kurt Angle, during his babyface stint, was playing the hero to Austin’s villain and trying to reclaim the gold for the WWF.

Austin really threw himself into the heel role, and even though it’s hard to remember this relatively brief part of his career, I do think he did a great job of selling himself as a complete and total *******.

VOTING ON THIS MATCH IS NOW OPEN. POLLS WILL CLOSE AT 9:51 A.M. EST ON WEDNESDAY THE 25TH.

I didn't much get into Austin vs. Angle. Nice announce job by JR and Heyman, and I enjoyed the time capsule of Austin's heel stint, but didn't think the match was too great. As for the ending, I feel some inner conflict since I hate the concept of a world title match not having a clean ending at one of the big four PPVs but I always did enjoy Nick Patrick's heel referee work.

Flair/Savage by miles for me.
