I really don't think it's a failed push, he's gonna be over completely soon, I expect him to win the title next PPV after destroying Jericho (he's touring w/ Fozzy or w/e the band is, right?). Then with the draft and such he'll have some fresh feuds to go with

Seems like they're back to the Hogan era tradition of heel first, face second. Ventura gave a great rant about this at WM V when Savage came out before Hogan.
