As a result, we are booked @ MGM on MLK weekend. After having offers thrown at us all last year by the "V" to have them ALL go away for the first two months this year is BS. Its been a while since I've been to Craftsteak. Guess its time to go back!
MGM may have the worst run poker room of all time. Having said that, the games are really soft there for some reason and Shibuya is excellent if you like tepan.

My theory about the softness...because so many locals hate the room...a) the loud music., b) the weird marble table rail, c) inconsistent management, beverage service, d) not so great tourney structure, e) the hike from cars or a room to your table (its closer to the table to stay at NYNY than it is to stay @ MGM!) and the room is a one trick pony... if you don't like 1/2NL UR bored out of your skull.

But when it costs me an extra gambling budget to stay at the V versus MGM, MGM is my new old friend. 1) Split a lobster pot pie @ Nobhill with the wife 2) Fiammi pastas and 3) anything at Craftsteak but particularly the Scotch Rock and the Cinnamon Monkey Bread!

I don't really understand what you are saying. They didn't mail you any offers so that makes you think they won't give you anything?

Call a host and tell them you want to come out .... see what they do for you. You shouldn't be waiting for mailed mass mailers ... you are much better off creating a personal relationship with a host --- it will get you things that you want when you want.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Keep the locals out and you have a good game... 2-5 also goes there and is a real slump-buster ime if you've been getting murdered at higher stakes... What I really love about that room is how it can be you, 4 dudes from a bachelor party, 2 awesome sportsbetting degens from Jersey Shore or somewhere, and like 2 hip Euros at the table. Everyone will be having fun and gambling it up and someone will tell a funny tale to which laughter will break out and someone will say in between chuckles, "No ****."

The dealer will snap, "SIR, YOUR LANGUAGE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN HERE, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE IF YOU CONTINUE... IT'S MY JOB ON THE LINE!" (and he won't be joking)

Also, I was degening it up in a 2-5 game there with a friend once and my friend was politely turning his hand face-up when it was his turn to act. He would have like QJ and raise pre-flop. The table loved it (especially those trying to win $) and he didn't care because he had been downswinging pretty hard in bigger games and was just trying to have some fun.

Floor came over (at the dealer's request) and told him he would have to leave if he did it again lol.

Got to admit, your post made me hungry though... And fwiw, I've logged a billion hours in Vegas poker rooms, and while not perfect by any stretch, the V seems to be the best run by a wide margin. I imagine the comp changes came from above/ are out of the hands of the good people in there like Joe, Richard or Tommy. Don't blame you for taking your business elsewhere though if comps are important to you or your wife.

Called host - mine had been transferred to the Group Dept. - no love. V's website usually lists all offers. Hosts have only been able to offer small perks to fix/payoff for prior problems. Today, my website list of offers is empty. My playersclub list of offers = 18 different better than casino rate offers.

So no, I don't just wait for offers in snail mail. I web check and have called 4 times to see if anything had become available. As of today the poker rate and the casino rate are the same at the "V" for MLK weekend and that is the best they will do at the "gold" card Grazie level, period.

Hey Tommy, I was hoping I could get some clarification on the poker room rate:

I just booked the Venetian Luxury suite for this Friday and Saturday. The price for everything all inclusive is $179 + $17.50 for resort fee to a total of $196.5/night, correct? I'm a little worried right now since when booking beforehand they charge the normal amount and then discount it to poker room rate at the end, and my booking had $107 tax applied. I'm really hoping that it's not $179 + $17.5 + $107 because that would really really suck

Why don't you book Harrah's next door for $45?

Tommy,
Can I book a room under one of the promo rates (jersey boys promo for example), and still get it reduced to poker rate if I play 6 hrs a day for my stay?
Thanks in advance and I'll see you in a week.

Once you play an average of 6 hours per day ( make sure you swipe your Grazie Card ) we will reduce the rate the night before you check out. You have to see a manager though the night before you check out to verify your hours. The rate right now is $ 129 Sunday - Thursday and $ 179 weekends.

Tommy I think he's concerned about the tax. The $107 tax for his reservation is based off the original rate of $449/night. Will the tax get reduced along with the room rate?

Poker suite rate is not available with any other offer.

Ive never heard of anyone having trouble with the tax. They should reduce that when they reduce the suite rate. Of course if you have problems, come see me in the room just before you check out and we will get it handled.

Why can't I locate this deal? http://www.allvegaspoker.com/room_8.html is saying there is no poker room rate.

Cause its the standard rate. Just use any of the travel search engines. Harrahs can be a great deal if your on a budget, but still want to play poker at the Venetian.

I wouldnt bother with Harrahs poker room. You cant beat the rake there unless you are on a major rush. They take full rake + bad beat + high hand for a total of $6 (iirc).

Heh, ok, now I don't feel so dumb. I thought there was some kind of correlation to the V, but had no clue as to what it could possibly be. Whenever I go, the V is where I play.

I'm looking into rates last minute for a trip from tmrw-Sun. With CES and the porn convention going on, you can imagine how much fun I'm having with my search. Harrah's is over $400/night avg I'll probably slum it off of Boulder Hwy somewhere at a 3* for around $50/night and drive each day.

Yea, its cause Harrahs is right next door to the V. Easy walk.

This is a tough time to book. I actually am heading there on Jan 27 for the Deep Stack, but am staying this year at Harrahs. I booked it months ago.

Hey Tommy - planning on being down there for the deep stack and super bowl. What is the situation with rooms for the big weekend (Feb 4-6)? Does the deep stack rate apply? Poker rate as well? Given the NYE situation people found themselves in, thought I would check in advance.

Thanks for any help.

I havent been told that it doesnt. NYE was the first night that I have heard where we didnt honor it. Just remember that they have to quote you under $ 400 a night. Right now our suite rates are over that because of the big conventions going on so technically there is no suite rate. During DSE though, with the code, you should not have any problems.

Hey gang,

I'm wondering if the 8/16 LHE game at the V has seen any change since the introduction of the new limit games at the B.

If so, how have the games changed?

Thanks in advance for any info.
