I read they had a couple potential buyers, but they don't want the competition for Horseshoe/Roadhouse. I went by Hollywood a couple weeks ago, they still don't have much action in the poker room there

Ceasars doesn't want another casino in the old Harrahs barge that is why they got the bankruptcy judge to ok to cut it up and sell it for scrap metal. If I had been Ceasars I would have sold the Shoe/Roadhouse and kept Harrahs and renamed it the Horseshoe since they really need the rooms and amenities there. Then I would have $19.95 rooms, lowered food prices (no reason for $20 buffets when the true cost is about $3.00 per person) to $6.95 buffets, loosened the machines to 98% payouts, brought back player friendly table game rules, comp the $5.00-10.00 player going back to what Benny and Jack Binion built their empire doing and the players would travel to be treated right.

As of May 4th, cash will no longer play at the Horseshoe. I hope they hire a chip runner or two.

Don't bet on them hiring one. Why is Lisa stopping cash plays?

What a sad state of affairs. I sure loved Tunica during the poker boom, it was the place to be during the WPO and busy holiday weekends. I've never felt like such a high roller (and we were low rollers for sure). Dirt cheap rooms, all the free food you could eat, the staff treated you like a real customer, not someone just bothering them etc.

Sadly I see the Shreveport/Bossier market slowly declining in the coming years. I suspect that within 3-5 years 1-2 of their 5 riverboats will be closed. The Horseshoe has already gone into super tighten up mode, just like Tunica did. They were never, ever generous with comps but the free/cheap rooms and buffet coupons they used to send low rollers and poker players are gone. I have droves of friends, as well as myself, who used to spend 2-4 days a month there gambling and playing poker and now I'm not sure if any of us have been within the last 18 months. You take away free/cheap rooms and food....why do I even want to go?

Never understood why casinos tighten up when business slows down instead of loosening up to get more players in the door.

It makes no sense to me either? Give me a free or less than $50 room on a Thursday night and a $100 or less room on Friday and give me one free buffet. I'll bring my wife and stay two nights, eat in your restaurants, buy drinks in your bars, tip your waitresses, play 8-14 hours of poker, drip $150-$200 in the slots/pits and my wife will spend $100 on the slots.

Surely....just surely that is a profitable venture for the casino? But instead they offer me nothing and I haven't been a single time in I don't know how long.

To prove the value of Tunica's comps, 2-3 buddies and myself would drive 6+ hours at least once a year to go play there because of the comps. I started taking a 2nd trip every year with my wife....again, to a low roller, cheap rooms a free food mean a lot.

. If I was a casino I would rather rent a room for $19.95 or give to a low roller just to get them in the door rather than have the room sit empty. And the buffet cost them about $3.00 so they could afford to give it away and sure don't hurt them to give a few $ in free play. But what do I know except that Binion said give em a free room, cheap food, free booze and a good gamble and they will come to you.

Corporate is skewed toward the big opportunities... the risk of a low stakes player doesnt pay the bills in the long run. However in reality this philosophy doesnt apply to tunica. But when do you think the big wigs at ceasers thought of the tunica market?

I'd rather have $5-10 players filling up a table than a $25 minimum sign on the table with the dealer at a dead spread trying to stay awake.

Very nice. So, is that going to be a monthly thing, or just whenever?

Believe they mentioned something about having some $100,000 guaranteed tourneys sometimes later this year.

It is being discussed but nothing definite yet.

I would assume they mean the PPC. Same as last year.

The tournament director mentioned this during last Sundays tourny. The way I took it he was not talking about the PPC.

The PPC made for a very good weekend. The tournaments disgust me as they take 20% off the top for the Aruba nonsense. However, the cash games were bigger and better than normal. It brought in a lot of non-familiar faces.

Having to listen to the "speech" before every tournament about how the winner of the main event would win a free pair of sunglasses... oy!

During the final table of the ladies' event, there was a long time spent asking about chops. I don't know if they ever chopped it, but I was told they got in three hands in one down.

The railbirds were watching it closely, like it was life-changing money. I don't understand coming to a poker room to watch other people play poker. I'm there to play.

The 20% holdout suck and the structures were also very house friendly.
