I am planning on making a month or two poker trip to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood/pompano beach area next June and/or July.
Currently a student from Ohio, planning on taking my summer time off to try to take my shot to see what it's like to actually play consistently during the week.
anyway, does anyone know anyone/suggest an area that would offer short term rentals for a month or two affordably, or decent neighborhoods to find an apartment?
not worried about social aspect, moreso just a place to sleep when not grinding.
Any suggestions would be appreaciated, thanks.

I suggest airbnb.com. I use this to sleep on peoples couches (sometimes beds) for ~20 a day when out of town grinding. If you want your own hotel use priceline.com express deals and / or name your own price for good rooms for ~65 a day after taxes. You have to know how to match the express / name your own price deal to the actual hotel. It takes a little know how and common sense. I stick with hotels at least user rated 7/10 which will be highlighted by priceline as 7 or higher when you search express deals. 1 star hotels rated above a 6 are also decent if you want to super budget. Also, search craigslist for temp housing.

As far as determining good areas use greatschools.com or .org to determine good school districts which = good areas. Honestly I think their are no good areas south of Boca Raton (this is just my opinion and shouldn't be taken without other advice), of course their are your little patches of good inside the bad, but they are usually expensive and a little hard to locate. I personally live in a A+ school district near West Palm Beach. Good area plus I like driving at least 30 mins from the casino when I'm done, just for my own mental safety reasons. A general rule of thumb for good areas in south Florida is stay by the turnpike, not by the interstate I 95. Use google maps to see the areas I'm speaking of by the turnpike

That is beyond idiotic.

And it's especially moronic coming from someone who lives in Palm Beach County, and who, by this very statement, has indicated that he knows next to nothing about either Miami-Dade or Broward counties.

Obviously you paid no attention to my next statement which was that it was only my opinion. I even further said get advice from others. How about contributing something rather than saying someone's comments in genuine effort to help an individual are idiotic and moronic (btw only idiots and morons generally use these words, and only individuals with low self esteem need to say things to put down others).

I have only lived in South Florida 1 year, BUT! I did major major research before moving here. Such as happiness of certain areas, average incomes, crime rates, school districts etc... My assessment of living by turnpike or west of the turnpike is super accurate as far as cost / area. I am not recommending areas like Miami Beach because as I stated in my previous comment that area is expensive.

All in all, Contribute rather than just bytch!

Spoiler:
BITCH!

To be clear, I didn't call you an idiot or a moron; I said that your statements were idiotic and moronic. There is a difference. And yes, I saw your disclaimer that those statements were merely your opinion; nevertheless, that doesn't change the fact that your "opinion" that there are no good areas south of Boca Raton is idiotic on its face.

hey guys my name is greg and i've been grinding for a living since '07, i primarily play midstakes cash online nowadays and i spent last winter in mexico (been living in colorado) but looming regulation and lol american sites are making me want to stay stateside this winter- thing is, i dont want to be cold or dealing with snow half the time. i was wondering if any of you had any advice about the state in general or desireable locations for poker (i dont play live very much, but sometimes) and whatever else. i'm 32, i like to fish and play golf in my spare time, and being that i'm a medicinal grower in CO, i obv enjoy bananas and the occasional drink. if anybody is looking for a neighbor or a roommate, i'm open to various options, but really just some info/advice/pointers would be greatly appreciated. or if you just wanna network and kick it sometime if/when i move down, whatever.

thanks

holy ****. is bananas code word for weed? i honestly thought that poker players talking about bringing bananas with them was just some weird poker thing where players liked eating bananas. i've been active on this site for years and this realization is hitting me like a brick in the face. LOL!!

Greg, South Florida is great for all that you mentioned (golf, fishing & grinding) except for the banana growing, lol.

We got about 5-6 poker rooms all within 50 miles of each other (many less than that)

Yes, I just saw on the news yesterday they are preparing the language for committee n ballots n such. I hope they legalize mari just so there can be more half (or less) thinking unmotivated people at the card rooms and life in general.

5-6 within 50 miles? I've played at 10 that are all within 30 miles of my Miami Beach condo, 5 of which are within only 12 miles of me.

Is there a thread on the Coconut Creek promos? This weekend's promo is an Audi giveaway. Similar rules as alway - earn your first entry just for showing up and then additional entries for every $4 in comp dollars earned at machines or $800 wagered at the tables. First of all, how they keep track of $ wagered at tables... well, I can't imagine there is a very good system for that beyond pit boss estimation. Room for an advantage play here? But I'd be interested in hearing if any of you out there tackle the promos from an AP perspective. Any data on who these cars go to? Do table games players have a chance? Initially I thought there has to be one guy who bets an avg of $1k a hand for 20 hours who drives off with the Audi, but compared to the coin in of a $75/spin slot player... seems like quite a battle for any BJ player.

Probably get more responses in the General Gambling forum. This has Zero to do with the poker room.
