PLO lovers - Lucky chances is now spreading 5/10 PLO on Tuesday nights. Buy in is 500-2000. It went last week, and there are 10+ names on board for this Tuesday's game, so at least one table will go. You can call casino ahead of time to have your name placed on the list.

You mean the players besides the 3-4 in this thread telling you you're wrong?

You realize there's a non-zero chance that Alan was playing at the Oaks at the very moment you last wet the bed?

Alan must be ancient.

Spoiler:
I played at the Oaks when Louis Burrell was a Floorman

I figure Alan's older than most people who post on 2p2 (mostly 20's and 30's imo). I believe Alan's exact age is public information, and to be clear beyond what he's posted here, I have no special insight other than being able to verify his face matches his public photos. Most people have an accident up to 6-10, so that would have been 10-25 years ago. Alan's blog goes back at least 10 years IIRC.

Alan has previously disclosed that he played night shift at some point in time, and most 2p2 posters are from North America, so +/- a few hours from Oaks Standard Time.

Decent, serious NL players should make their way to the Grand to play in the 2/3/5 NL game. Basically no-fold 'em holdem. So many loose limp-calls PF and all the way thru the river. Makes for some variance, but so much mind-numbing play.

And which day(s) did you experience this?

Moved from the Bay Area in mid-2010 and used to play a bit at Lucky Chances. Curious what kind of traffic Matrix has now that it's been open a while? Did any of the higher stakes action move there with it being nicer/newer, or has it just fragmented the south bay (ie - Bay 101) traffic?

Most recently this last Monday and Tuesday noon to early afternoon, but pretty much every time I've played that game.

Ah. You're an early afternoon player.

I was just trying to figure out if I've played against you.

2/3/5 at the Grand on Fridays can be good. There's actually a feeder table and the list can get really long.

Can anyone compare how the 1/3 and/or 2/5-ish NL games at the Bay 101 and the California Grand play? Trying to decide where to play this weekend...

Well I've never been to Bay 101, but I did go to M8trix this past weekend (played 2/3/5). The action is crazy. People will chase you down with 4-hi flush draws. We saw the river close to 95% of the time. I thought people were just exaggerating about the action there, but from my experience it's true. (And the waitresses are cute.)

2/3/5 at the Grand is a little bit more conservative, but it is not by any means a nit-fest. Max buy-in is 500. 2/2/3 at the Grand can be frustrating as max buy-in is 200. But if you get off to a good start, it can be very profitable as the games are must move. By the time you're at the main game, stacks are really healthy.

CG has 2/2/3 and 2/3/5 but NFFD so it skews raise sizes and preflop odds relative to most 1/3 and 2/5 games. Bay 101 has NF1D so it's more "normal".

Bay101 is significantly nicer, and parking is easier.

CG strings all their games in must-move chains, Bay101 rarely does.

AFAIK CG never runs anything higher, Bay spreads 5/10 and maybe even 10/20 occasionally.

Both the CG 2/2/3 and Bay 1/1/2 are standard small-stakes type games.

I do not play at the Grand on a regular basis, but my opinion is that more often that not many players believe(at least during the weekdays when I have been there) that there is rarely a hand in the 2/3/5 that is not worth calling after limping. Big pairs seem to go down most of the time because players LC $40 with any suited. Made for high variance. Can only imagine how this translates to busier weekends.

I might be in palo alto for a bit in the coming months.
what's the limit hold'em scene like around there in san jose and san fran? i'm assuming bay101 and oaks are the only places for 30/60s and 40/80 and up?

Update on PLO at Lucky Chances

3/5 PLO ($100-$500 buy-in) ran last night (Tues night) and was full for several hours, then dwindled down to short-handed (5-6 handed), but new players kept popping into the game and it finally broke around midnight.

5/10 PLO ($500-$2000 buy-in) didn't get going last night, but it ran last week by report.

The plan is to make Tuesday nights the regular PLO night. My guess is that the 3/5 PLO game may go more consistently and that 5/10 will go when the bigger "guns" come to play.

There was also talk of trying to spread it on Friday nights to get the recreational red-chip hold 'em players to try out PLO and build the pool of players.

Yep. Bay101 is a LOT closer than the Oaks, has more games, the games are better IME, and is nicer.

But PM me if you come up to the Oaks and we can grab a drink or something.

Check out M8trix if you go to Bay. It's shiny and new and apparently the waitresses are attractive and wear flattering outfits. But the poker scene was clearly inferior when I visited.

ALSO YOU WILL GET RAPED IF U GO TO THE OAKS.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. Leaning towards M8trix/Bay101 at this point; since they're so close together, I guess I might as well check out both unless the first one I get to seems great.

The only confusing thing seems to be the min/max buyins for the 2-3-5 games: looks like at the M8trix you can sit down with 100–500, while the 101 has 200–500 and a deeper 300–1000.

M8trix has a 2-3-5 deep with a 1500 max buy-in. Usually has 1 table running daily, weekends they might have more than 1.

Haven't been to Bay101 recently but from what I've been hearing the games there tend to be better.
