I tried to look up as much about NYC poker rooms/new downstate casinos…

There’s literally no mention of any of these potential places even having a poker room. (I’ve only heard rumors that empire city is getting a poker room but there’s no details on anything)

I could see them having no room in the 3rd location and a seedy room at Yonkers and RW honestly is so far and full of traffic id still go to Parx or foxwoods over it.

As much as I want closer rooms, I can’t see it happening in a player friendly manner.

Rake being 10 or 12 max could make the games unbeatable. The games will be great a rec or two will bust and the game will become unbeatable.

I do think nyc area has the money and players to support a ton of rooms though which is why I would still consider playing 10max raked games.

The X factor will be how many underground players start frequenting new rooms where they can’t get credit?

The excuse from these players as to why they don’t go to casino is that it’s far. So now they have one less excuse.

I’ve witnessed sheet players lose 70k in 5-5 games… they usually pay too. But are these same whales going to go to casino where they actually have to bring money?

There’s hardly been any mention of anything recently. I believe when the poker rooms in nyc open up not only will people from nyc flock over there, people from other places will gravitate toward it to check it out. Even the id prefer parx and ac crowd are probably gonna check it out a couple of times

as for the bolded- they're also massively increasing your win rate with their erratic play.
I play 2/5 which is always the biggest game available. The 5/10's at borgata are hit or miss, weekends are the only day to play and I don't even know if they'll win over the 10/10 players from Parx.

I've been saying this for 2 years. I haven't seen the word poker in any news article or even on the state's gaming regulatory commission websites and I don't see them caring too much about poker anyway, especially in Manhattan where real estate is incredibly expensive (unlike Yonkers where MGM will own the building and one of the proposals was gonna be "on top of sack's fifth avenue") so I think they would probably put their highest revenue games there, not their lowest.

I rushed my post and didn’t even mention the problem w the overhead of real estate and taxes.

Poker is going to be an after thought at best.

There’s also safety issues when you mix casinos w big cities.

Should be fun to see how this all plays out.

2/5 @ borgata has been awful since the time rake went away

i’ve been there a bunch of times on Saturday and there’s not even a 5/10 game running

2/5 at parx is great tho (splashy)..never played T/T there but sometimes i see some bad 2/5 players at the table (T/T)

Borgata had a 2-3 month head start over Parx poker when it reopened in 2020 and they used it to completely alienate their player base in every way possible.

5/10 runs at Borgata every Friday and Saturday and over the summer it’s been going Thursday evenings and Sundays too.

Borgata is doing their best to chase everyone to parx but the weekends are still better at borg

Drove to Brooklyn today and I want to reiterate how I probably would go to Parx or foxwoods over driving to a casino on the bqe during any traffic hours.

Empire city is the most convenient for me w plenty of parking. But that place is pretty much a dump.

Come on NY don’t f this up!

Without a car both borgata and parx are a pain in the ass and expensive to get to. You could buy in for 1/2 1/3 with how much it cost to get there and back. Trust ppl ain’t giving away buy ins if they don’t have to, which they won’t when nyc does open rooms

Borgata cost like 45 bucks round trip before the bonus, it's not hard/expensive if you take a gray hound.

It is a little annoying though, especially if there's an option you can take the subway 25m to instead of taking the subway 25m then a 2.5 hours Greyhound journey (and then maybe an Uber or Jitney when you get to AC).

I know, I used to take it on weekends when I worked near the PABT You have to get off at caesars or bally's usually then take a jitney or a taxi to the casino. I also have memories of waiting on lines to come home with hundreds of people for busses that never came or came hours later. I only did it because I commuted to the city for work then took the bus on weekends to AC.

The Lucky Streak busses are the absolute nut low of life. I have had so many issues with them over the years, I refuse to take them now. NJ Transit busses are the way to go, despite taking a little longer and no free play/match play

So funny, I literally never had a single (major) issue when I used to take them 1-2x a month for about 18 months, aside from getting the 4am-ish one back with the absolute nut low people lol.

Oh and one time one of them broke down, and another it apparently was really really really late.

That and PABT at random hours of the night is rarely fun.

but it was a while back now

Yeah, the biggest annoyance is(?)/was the busses simply not showing up. When I used to work a job with an actual schedule, it was a nightmare heading back to the city from a trip. I have also had busses break down and been stranded on the side of the road. One trip I took clocked in at 8hrs, and the replacement bus wreaked of piss the entire way back. Can't say I miss that!

yeah i think empire city is the best hope for a decent room, there is certainly a player pool in westchester / lower hudson valley and even some outer borough / nnj folks will come there instead of the city. it's really not hard to get to outside of the worst traffic times. question is will they give it enough space & good mgmt

Read these 2 things on twitter today from some conference:

"The Gaming Commission is looking at something long term."

Assemblyman Gary Pretlow said he's heard from sources that the New York State Gaming Commission believes licensing the downstate casinos will take years.

The first panel ends with a lightning round: Will a New Yorker be able to make a legal sports bet in a New York City casino in 2023?

Two yes’s, two no’s.

Will there be three casinos in or around New York City at some point?

Jeff Gural: “...maybe.”

Apparently speed to market is not all it's cracked up to be.

Jeff Gural isn't exactly an unbiased voice. I really don't think this is something to worry about. Still would bet very solid chance Resorts World and Empire are running table games by next summer

Gary pretlow is the assemblyman who wrote the casino bill though. I don’t 100% think he’s right but it’s still concerning that speed isn’t an issue to anyone especially since everyone knows 2 of the licenses already.

Technically yonkers and queens need to bid for the licenses too. It’s not guaranteed, but they shouuuulllddddd get them. With government stuff they usually take their sweet time unfortunately. Then one weekend outta nowhere it’ll be up and running lol. They can’t ignore all the money they getting from the sports betting
