I will be in NYC for around 10 days, and the schedule is falling rather nicely, looks like I will have 4-5 days of uninterrupted time by myself - probably something like Sat-Tue/Wed.
(I used to live in NYC so not like I need to do the sites).
Would love to get in some live poker for the first time in ages.
I may get up to Boston at some point, but would have to get back to NYC.

It's been a while since I've played live in the US (previously played in London).
If I was going to camp out somewhere for a few days - what are the best options, in terms of travel convenience, likelihood of being able to jump into a game (probably up to 2/5), decent games, rake that doesn't totally suck, possibility of free room, food options etc? Resorts World in Queens? Atlantic City? Parx/Bogata? Mohegan/Foxwoods?

Atlantic City or somewhere in PA if you’re looking for casino poker. Not allowed in Nyc yet

Yeah, I know there's no poker in NYC, I'm wondering what are the best options to camp out for 4-5 days that are reasonably close to NYC.
I don't know enough people in NY anymore to feel safe in a random home game.
Is there any reason to prefer one of the casino venues in Atlantic City, PA or Foxwoods etc over other venues?

If I were you, I'd go to Parx. They offer room rate codes on the Parx website that are very affordable. I like staying at the Best Western. It's a cheap Uber away. Action is great, tons of games to choose from, great sports book, good food. I'd think you could get a cheaper rook there than in AC or elsewhere

Oh yea also wait lists are way longer at parx since they have that call in option

How much rake would a Times Square poker room charge...tbh though having it that close to work (and a quick subway from home) and I agree I'd find it hard to care unless we're going above Boston Encore levels...

Probably Boston encore levels. Would not surprise me at all. But like I said the amount of action would be unmatched.

Why do people think the action in a TSQ casino will be any crazier than anywhere else? Yes the demand will be massive, but not sure why that directly leads to crazy action.

Ppl in ny have that don’t give a **** attitude that’s why. That accompanied with the money flow here, along with the occasional person tryna torch money on fire on purpose for various reasons will lead to crazy action

Think about all the tourist who come into Times Square to stay, who don't know the city well. Those people ain't going to City Field to play. However, if it was 4 blocks from their hotel, it's a lot more doable. I think the harder it is to get to, the more casuals you lose out on

The one thing I will say is a casino in Times Square would have me hesitant to leave my chipstack unattended for anything longer than a bathroom break.

If you are looking for tourney action, the Sunday $500 and Wednesday $260 at Foxwoods always get really good turnouts.

I think it's reasonable to think there's a good chance that if there is more money in the building than other casinos overall, that the action will also be better, and there will definitely be an insane amount of money in the building. But also as someone mentioned, NY specifically has a few demographics and factors that combine money with a certain attitude that should lead to good action relative to other places:

- There are a ton of business travelers, living on an expense account, I think more likely to be gamblers than nits or studied players
- There is a gambling culture, sports betting is putting up insane numbers and nobody is really surprised
- NY is one of the centers of several industries that create young millionaires known for being crazy (wall street, fashion, art, real estate, etc)
- There's a lot of young drug dealers who gamble.
- Ton of wealthy tourists
- General NY attitudes of being aggressive and having a hustler mentality

Plenty other places have factors like this, and I'm not saying it's a guarantee the games are head and shoulders above Vegas, Macau, Florida, Texas, but it definitely has the ingredients to be something good. NY has all the factors at a higher magnitude than most places, especially just there being more and wealthier living there and traveling there. TSQ gets to capitalize on a lot of customers Empire and Resorts won't, TSQ can get investment bankers on long lunches, no tourist is going to drive to Ozone Park without good reason, etc.

It is kinda crazy - and, kinda cool, when you think about it - that despite the level of degen you see on a regular basis in any poker room around the world, people leave crazy amounts of chips on the table and just leave for like an hour to go eat. I wouldn't leave my wallet with $5 in it on a pew in a church, but I've left 5-figure sums in chips on a table to go get a cheeseburger...

Yea it’s a unique situation, even on a slot machine I wouldn’t leave money unattended. But with that said once regular non poker players catch on to the people leaving money unattended thing they may swipe em. The only thing I can say which makes it a little difficult is you’d need to go to a higher stakes game cuz stealing 1 $5 chip or even a stack of them potentially wouldn’t be ban worthy to most

Yup, along with what will be the newness of legal poker. I’m just curious to see if there will be wsop or wpt events here at some point.

I think we’re getting way too ahead of ourselves here but I enjoy the hype. Let’s make sure that these downstate NY casinos will even put in poker rooms (I sincerely hope they do) but nothing is guaranteed. But I’m excited at the prospect of possibly playing legal poker in a NYC casino in the near future.

I’d like to think if there’s three full fledged casinos in nyc at least one should throw in a poker room. Yea the tourney events are definitely thinking far ahead but those events would be fun for sure
