24/7 ban on alcohol.

No food or soft drink after 11pm. That's right, not even a cup of tea. Just water.

It's bad.

i told them many times they should demolish the place and start fresh. Dont know how they can mess things up so much. I happened to talk to the CEO one time and i told him about how unprofessional the security staff are. Most of them think they are mobsters and i had 2 incidents that 2 bouncers ask me for tips(!!!).

i was having my (terrible ) dinner at Aspers and bouncer come by says "you shouldn't eat alone we are hungry here too" i though it was a joke laughed and said " sit down i will get you something as well" his response was "no no but you can give me £10-£20 tip now and then to go get something instead of eating alone" i was like what the **** and ended the conversation

I've heard (from players when I used to play there) that the security is run by a guy who frequents, or at least plays in the poker games. Seems like a recipe for a conflict of interest.

If this is true then the whole casino is in jeopardy. In this country, you cannot play in the same casino you work at. They may be exploiting some legal loophole but then my answer would be, "let's see what the judge/jury has to say".

No you are talking about Abbie. He doesn't run the security. He runs the shisha girls who go around and sell shisha in the casino and the shisha bar they have in summer. He still get favourable treatment though

Ok, just passing in what I've heard. By run the security, I mean he owns a company that the casino contract their security guards from. Again, this could all be wrong, just what I heard.

This doesn't make the situation better, if this is all true.

Is this actually the law or just something that most casinos practice?

It's the law. At least it was the last time I worked in a casino. Even if it wasn't, I wouldn't feel good about this situation.

Yes agreed, it's obviously terrible business, but I've never seen any reference to it in a legal way.

Hello there,

I arrived friday night in London and slowly discover the London (live mtt) poker.
As my 1st search seemed to tell:
-best place for live mtts is the victoria grosvenor, where i played some 80+10 mtts (without success: one unlucky, the other badly played).
-Casino at the empire offers (little) afternoon tournaments. (also --badly--played a 40 there).
-Aspers is the best friday night tourney (50 BI for 10k gted)

next :
-Aspers 50 friday night (10k gted) if it still plays.
-The baby five-o at the victoria's this week end. also 10k getd. 2days tournament with many day1, interesting format.
-some 150 (75) bounty tourney, on sunday night at the victoria.
-Then comes UKIPT & EPT soon where i will play sat to UKIPT ME and some 220 side events.
-then the 25/25 at the victoria's, end of october.

What about you?

My poker in London is bad for now, as i am down some 550 (which is much for me) but i still appreciate, and know i will get more successfull, which is not difficult when i am on my C-game. (probably time for me to continue reading TMGOP vol1.

I also heard that he's in some sens connected with the security company that work in Aspers..

pokeraph - If you want something bigger buy-in this weekend, there is a 2 day £150+15 tourny at the Genting Cromwell Mint.

I'm thinking of playing the Saturday afternoon day 1 and if I get knocked out early, pop over to the Vic for the baby five-0 day 1

I'll probably be playing the 888 Superstack at the Mint this weekend

Seems like a nice plan to me. Ty. I will probably do that too. Any guarantee of prizepool ?

i asked him a while ago and he said no connection the casino recruit their own security . He does know a lot of the security people in Aspers. I think a lot of them used to work for him maybe he even helped them get the job in aspers but i am just speculating. He owns the shisha company he told me himself. Also a lot of the times he leaves the table for long periods to go for meetings with Aspers managers at the back
I remember one time last year i had a big argument with cardroom supervisor because he wouldn't take abbies chips of the table after like 1.5hours because he was in a meeting at the back (Although abbie said if i am late take my chips of the table)

Finally it will be the (sober) Aspers £50 mtt with £10 000 guaranted, which is a great value. And next day the baby five-o (why this name, please? ) at the Victoria's, also £10 000 guaranted.
Best values of the week-end for my bankroll (already--too much---hurt by my misplays during my 1st days in London).

pokerph - I don't think there is a guarantee for the tourny at the mint. I'd expect them to get between 120 and 170 runners over the 4 day 1's.

The baby five-0 is named because the room has been running 50 years and they had a tourny with a slightly bigger buy in called the five-0 to mark this. They got good attendance, so started these baby five-0's.

I phoned the mint and there is no guarantee but around 120 to 150 players according to them.
Thank you for the "five-o" information.

So is stick to those 50 pounds value.

May the poker be with you.

I tried the Aspers £55 (10k gted), yesterday night. Nice deep structure, 30k, my preferred one. The beginning (me arriving 20 minutes late) was messy as we waited some 45 minutes on tables before we could play, but i have been told it is unusual. Anyway, i loved the place and make Aspers my friday night poker tournament place, if i have no others things to do.
Note: Long story short: deep run but no money (not A-game neither as i missed spots when i was stacked enough to play).

For now, my tournament schedule in London seems to be:
Tuesday: £80+10 (around 100 players), at the victoria's
Friday: £50+5, 10 k gted at Aspers
Sunday: £150+15 (£75 bounty) at the victoria's.
And events (25/25 , EPT side events etc....)

Those are the interesting ones, as i don't like too little field (30 players...) or too little buy-in (55 is little ok).

Looks like a good schedule, interested in seeing how you get on over a decent sample.
