And now the gaming commission has apparently decided they cannot hold the circuit event at an outside hotel. I guess somewhat understandable because its not in the building licensed to be a casino. However, if anyone with common sense or poker experience were on the commission it would just be common sense that the casino needs a ballroom for these tournaments. Honestly the commission seems like a big waste of tax dollars. Just have them verify the games are fair and that should be enough. Having a commission that decides what color chips are allowed on a table is just crazy. Having been other places I know some states have stupid rules but ohio seems to be the worst.
Gaming commission didn't decide that ... the voters did. The constitutional amendment allowed for 4 casinos in Ohio, and it was VERY specific as to where they were to be built. It even took a separate vote to move the location of the Columbus casino.
When I heard the rumors that the larger poker tournaments would be played at some other venue I said there was no way that could happen -- it has to be played in the licensed casino building/structure. Blame Gilbert/casino for not building a large enough venue, or for buildiing a "temporary" structure until their "permanent" building is built. Still don't believe that they are going to build another structure.
Gaming commissions in every state nit pick over every detail of the games. That's what they do. I don't think Ohio is any worse than the other midwest casinos.
