If you play 10/20 or 6/12 at Horseshoe Hammond, you are paying a $6.00 rake, because it is almost a certainty you will never receive a penny return on the $1.00 "promotional" drop. 6/12 and 10/20 are spread mainly on Friday, Saturday. Other times, during the week, those games are virtually never "up". If they start, they break down, after a few hours.

The other limit game, 20/40 is exempt from the $1.00 drop. It is spread daily.

The house is keeping the lion's share of all those promotion dollars.
If that dollar was being used for "bad beat", the bad beat would be up beyond hundred thousand, for the time Horseshoe has been open.

As it stands, Horseshoe will pay only $200 for a straight flush, and $500 for a Royal, in Holdem games. The "two of the cards in your hand rule" is strictly in effect. The table share $100 (per player) is a mere pittance.

If you hit a straight flush in Omaha, the payout is only $100, for a Royal Flush in Omaha the payout is, get this, "$250" (was with the odd number ?). There is no "table share" amount in Omaha.

I don't remember any of us being forced to play there. Although I'll double-check on that...

Same old irrelevant line this guy always uses. Actually, my friend, many of us who like to play LEGAL poker ARE forced to play there. In case you'd like to "double-check" on this, where else in this area can you play anything higher than 1-2 nl? Find a new line.

In case you haven't noticed, Magoo, Horseshoe isn't "real good" (I'm so kind) with promotions. If they were, the Omaha game would have been exluded from all high hand payouts in the first place.

Majestic Star is still an option. Not what it once was as a poker room but you can see where the extra dollar is going. The jackpot is over $50,000 and with less tables your chances of winning are improved. Friday and Saturday they have 10 to 12 tables of 3/6L,1/2NL, and Omaha and Hose. Also single table sit & go’s and a Deep Stack Poker Challenge in October.. It is the only other legal choice(with some variety) for Chicago area players right now.

Resorts has stud games. I wasted some time there.

Aurora has a $6 rake and no promos!!! They have 6 tables and usually a long wait for a game if you don’t get there early. They have 10/20 and 5/10 limit. Hard to go there a lot from Chicago area also.

Joliet 3 tables.

Other than house games and charity games, we don’t have much choice. Illinois legislators have to get their act together and change the 1200 gaming positions law.:

Gee I am sure you have been there for every moment of the casino's history. That is how you know about the jackot never being given away. Ask some people about it at the tables. It allows you to know whom a couple of regs are as well as makes for a good conversation starter allowing you to get more reads on people.

.
6-12 goes a few times a week. 10-20 goes almost every day and 3-4 days aweek there are two tables and on Wednesday and Fridays there are many times 3 games.

Who said the house keep the promotion dollar? All the money is issued back out in different promotions.

The upcoming promotion is October 15th-22nd, four times a day (9am, 3pm, 9pm, 3am) a $5150 circuit main event seat will be awarded. There will be 28 people that will get to play in the main event that probably would not have played other wise. First place might be around $300,000

What?

The number of tables going does not affect your chances of hitting a bad beat jackpot....

$25-$50 NL (2K min buy-in) 3-4 days a week. They usually play a round of PLO and a round of NLHE.

100-200 NL (10K min buy-in) sometimes goes. It use to go more frequent.

My reasoning was that the jackpot goes to one table. - So if there are 20 tables, I have a 1 in 20 chance of being at that table. If there are 10 tables, I have a 1 in 10 chance of being at that table. 5 tables, a 1 in 5 chance. Sounds like an odds thing to me.

Am I wrong about that?

If they gave out one jackpot every day or the like, then yes. However, the chances of your hitting the jackpot are the chances of having aces full or better (or whatever the threshold is) get beaten by quads. Those chances are the same for you regardless of how many tables there are.

The games are so good there it's irrelevant, I'll play there with the casino fish - you go play with the nits at the $4 rake games.

Curiously, any idea why the 100/200 isn't going as often?

Also Jeremy - I'm looking at coming back up on the 22nd and staying as long as my bankroll allows, will single table satelites start at that time?

Oh, and I just want to add - thanks so much for making the trip for me and my wife a pleasurable one, it really helped in the abscence of her usual spa days and such while I play.

Billirakis won the first wsop tourney in 2007. He was the youngest player then to win. Someone has surpassed him as being the youngest. Someone in Europe where the age limit is 18.

Billirakis is a professional poker player. Probably has won about a million in poker tourneys already.

I think you are wrong. I'm not much of a mathemetician, but I think the likelihood of hitting the bad beat would be tied in to the number of hands dealt in the room. As the number of tables go down, so do the number of hands dealt. Therefore the odds of hitting the bad beat would stay the same and it would just take longer to hit with less games going. It would also take longer for the jackpot to get big. Therefore, the number of people playing in the room should have absolutely no effect on the jackpot or the odds of hitting. Would any math guys like to chime in on this?
