Tom, you going to play any more satellites to try and get a seat to sell or vouchers?

Any hotel recommendations? Had to wait until the last minute because I've been busy at work. I assume the most popular ones are booked -- think I stayed at the Holiday Inn the last time...

Also, a friend and I were doing math on #s from tourneys last year, and it looks like $300 from every buyin is not going in the prizepool--it was actually something like ~$283. $283/$345 is pretty awful, anyone know anything about this?

I pre regged a few days ago and it looks like $40 admin fee + $14 player fee. So looks like $291/$345

I called the poker room yesterday afternoon and was told that cash games might be running this weekend but could not guarantee. I am looking for 2-5 nl. Would any regulars have any additional info? I don't want to drive 3.5 hours for no cash games.

Thanks

Ugh, total BS that they take that same fee out of every re-entry - total windfall for them

1/2 NL and 1/3 NL are the most common games. When it's busy a lot of times there's 2 or 3 2/5 NL games going, but a lot of times if they don't have a ton of games going, there's 1 table max. I'd imagine they'd try to get a few of the 1/2, 1/3 and 3/6 limit games going before a 2/5 game just b/c more people are willing to play those than 2/5.

They really screwed this up for a similar tourney a few months ago. I remember waiting 2.5 hours for a seat b/c they only had ~6 cash tables running when there were ~15 tables unoccupied. They simply didn't have enough dealers. Didn't make any sense given that they should have been able to anticipate the high demand and been prepared to capitalize on it.

In four trips to Hollywood, I've been pissed off with the room for one reason or another every time I've played--things typically seem very poorly managed. That being said, the tourney field is usually ridiculously soft, so it is still worth the investment (and, when the cash games get running, those are usually also really soft).

EDIT: one area for kudos: the PLO dealers are usually pretty good and don't make a lot of mistakes, NLHE dealers are also on average pretty good

I offered $79 a night on priceline a few days ago and got the Holiday Inn for Thurs and Friday (their website price was significantly higher).

Spot on. Their dealers are good, but they have nowhere near enough. The lengthy waits on weekend nights are completely unacceptable. It's going to be very interesting when the Cincy Horseshoe opens. Should provide immediate competition for Hollywood, and that's only a positive for players. Hollywood needs some real competition. The room itself is almost impeccable, but the management is average to borderline weak.

Yeah, the number of dealers always seems to be a problem. That's the only issue I usually have with playing in this bigger tournaments b/c you end up w/ all the blackjack, etc. dealers being thrown into the mix and it's a total crapshoot on whether you'll get a good dealer or not.

Agree and disagree. Agree, most (def not all) poker dealers are good, and some are very good. Definitely don't have enough solid poker dealers for tourneys. Room is very solid. Floor/mgmt is OK, certainly not great, IMO.

Disagree on the competition angle. WIth the opening of the Cincy casino, and I assume fairly soon thereafter the Columbus casino, the live poker player pool in the area will be greatly diluted.

At this point, most players from central Ohio, central Indiana, and northern KY play at Hollywood. (to a lesser extent, some play at Horseshoe SI). When CIncy opens, the Cincy and central Ohio players will move to the closest casino. (opinion based on my informal survey and common sense.) Thus, the Hollywood poker room will have much less traffic, which will result in a decrease in the number of tables and players. The smaller the player pool, the sooner the sharks take all the money and kill the room.

So, would disagree that the competiton is good for Hollywood, because the Cincy casino dilutes the player pool, which leads to less players in the room, which leads to fewer tables and less good action.

Are the structure sheets for the Indiana State Poker Tournament posted anywhere, if so link please, don't just give me stack size and level duration, because without the levels and size of increases its hard to judge whether or not the tournament is worth driving out for.

Their dealers suck be more prepared there shouldnt be any excuses for this.. at least last time it sucked esp for a wpt series.

They also stopped the tournament clock with 3 ppl till money in a 500 deepstack i was in and went hand for hand for over 2 hrs with out raising the blinds. When asked why they were doing this they said snobbishly that they always do this. I told them i chopped the last tournament and we didnt do anything of the sort and they walked away from me. But maybe thats the normal thing to do... stop the tournament clock for 2 hrs idk but at least keep it the same every tourny.

They also have maybe 3 ppl doing chip counts for 100 bags and make the ppl they count last stay an extra hr and a half later than the ones in front. Maybe im just a baby but its already 1am or later when we finish and id like to leave when everyone else does not an hour+ later. Just get some more ppl counting chips or let us count them write it down put our players card in there and you verify. ez game

I really dont like this place.... see you all there tomorrow lol

A little tip for the players visiting from out of town. You can call ahead to the poker room up to an hour before you get there for cash game wait lists. This could greatly reduce your wait time. Normally during their tournament series they have limited games going so I'd highly recommend doing so. Good luck everyone in the ISPC. If you're playing the Main Event I'll see you at the final table.

I guarantee you cash games, specifically 2/5 nl, will be running this weekend. The only time they may not be running is Thursday and Friday afternoon at the beginning of the deepstack. Historically they have needed every available dealer and had to shut down the cash games until they start busting tables in the tournament. Cash games usually start running late afternoon. Again, this is just was has happened in the past, I can't say for sure what will happen this time.
