For me - not only is cincy closer - it's the fact that it's non smoking. Walking out of a place where I don't wreak or have a sore throat is so much better than how bad you might think the structure is. Personally I'm fine with the more "turbo" feel.

Other than Event 1 and the Main Event that tournament series looks absolutely awful.

Any reason as to why they are holding Event #1 Flight A in the Poker Room? I was reading the flyer from their website and it says Flight A is in the Poker Room, while the other flights B and C on Saturday are in the Ballroom.

I'm curious because I really don't want to play upstairs with all the smoke.

My guess is they're not expecting a big turnout for flight A and don't want to go to the trouble of having the ballroom open an extra day. It's also possible they have the ballroom booked for another event that night.

I had a dealer at Horseshoe Cinci tonight tell the table that Hollywood has or will very soon cut back to cash games only on Friday and Saturday. Can anyone confirm this? I dont know that it is any huge shock, but just wondering if this is true.

You need to consider who is giving you your rumors then you might know if it's true or not

I've noticed on Bravo they've only been getting 1 or 2 tables during the week so it wouldn't surprise me either. Belterra did a similar thing, their poker room used to be closed Monday-Wednesday after Hollywood opened. I haven't heard that specific rumor but I did run into a Hollywood dealer about a month ago who shared some info. He said they were going to get rid of the all the poker room supervisors and floor staff and just have the pit bosses from table games rotate through and act as floor. He also said that while he has no concrete information the general feeling among the remaining dealers is that the room will close by the end of the year. I also heard from a different dealer that many of the part time dealers are getting zero shifts per week and are effectively unemployed now.

A common theme during the deepstack was the dealer sitting down and saying "sorry guys, I'm still getting the rust off. I haven't dealt in 3 months!"

The poker room is likely going to close down totally?? Good source?? This is really a bad deal, but I guess I can understand it. I knew it was going to get smaller, but I really did not think it was going to die. Belterra still is open right?

Well it was fun while it lasted, I'm glad I got to experience all the changes to this casino in the past few years.

I'd consider the dealer I talked to a good source, however keep in mind that he said this was just a feeling many of the dealers had and not based on anything concrete. Still if you look at the poker room's monthly revenue for the year, it's not pretty:

Jan-13 $536,741
Feb-13 $535,628
Mar-13 $306,849
Apr-13 $215,493
May-13 $228,639
Jun-13 $164,275
Jul-13 $153,150
Aug-13 $127,043
Sep-13 $87,817
Oct-13 $79,698

Obviously they took a big hit when the Horseshoe opened on March 4th, but the disturbing thing is that rather than stabilizing afterwards, they've steadily declined instead. The drop from August to September is understandable with the WSOPC at Cincinnati, but there was no bounce back in October. The trend seems to be that once players leave they don't come back.

This place is pretty sad from the days of not being able to get into the casino when it was Argosy. I remember the 1/2 or 1/3 NLHE games at Argosy having like a 40 person+ waiting list some weekend nights. Now they can barely even get 2 tables running?

If the casino doesn't want a poker room and keeps driving the players away, why don't they just shut it down? Is it management or corporate?

Wow! From 1/2 a million + to less than 80k in 10 months. That is much worse than I thought it was. I doubt anyone could convince the "suits" that the room is worth being open 24/7. I wonder if they will opt for electronic tables on a small scale? No dealers to pay, just likely a couple of shifts of single supervisors. IDK , just musing. I used to love that place (in the basement)!

Heard that several times as well. IMO the room's demise was predictable once Cincy opened, as most of the players are from Ohio and are naturally going to prefer a shorter drive. I remember when the line for tourneys wrapped around the elevator and escalators in multiple rings. However, there was a solid turnout for Event 1 (425) so hoping the Main on Saturday gives the place a decent farewell.

It's hard to balance out the two rooms if there's no solid action at Hollywood. I think there's only been 1 1/3 game once in the last month. And that's usually short handed any way.

Not to derail this thread (which it seems it wouldn't matter considering this casino's poker room is apparently dying), but if you made a graph of the revenue it would look strikingly similar to this graph:

I used to frequent Hollywood quite a bit, but I have not been back even once since Horseshoe opened. The floor was terrible IMO, I hated all the smoke and noise once they moved the room upstairs, and hated the way they tried to squeeze every dime out you with the 50 cent chips and raking every $5. They treated the players like garbage and as soon as they had a viable alternative close by they quickly left.

When Horseshoe opened its room I went and was impressed. I had planned to attend both rooms coming up from Ky (easy both ways) , but I never have been back to Hollywood. I guess I was not alone. Two good rooms would be better , but I guess there is just not enough traffic for that and Hollywood just quit being a serious choice!

I went there a couple of weeks ago, completely oblivious to how bad it was. I saw no game, and the room was empty. No staff or anything. Just a countdown until the next tournament. It was depressing. I did forget to check Bravo, duh! But I figured there would be ONE game. Hell even if it was $3/$6 limit, I'd have played! Nope.

I work at Hollywood Columbus, and they have raped us of our rights, and I am not allowed to play in Ohio. I guess West Virginia and Pittsburgh are my alternatives. I know of home games, but they won't be running when I want to play. Sucks badly!
