You do get paid for playing, but it's pretty pathetic anyways. 25 cents per hour. That's what happens with no competition in town.

Seems like a good way to kill a game. Is it post flop at least?

I cant see that game going anywhere regardless of a rake/drop increase

Going to be in NO for a wedding the weekend of October 5th. Just wondering if this place spreads consistent 5/10+ nl action for me to check out while I happen to be in town?

Thanks.

Gonna be there in a few weeks. Anyone got comments on how the 1/2 games are on weekdays vs weekends?

I played a lot more weekdays than weekends on a regular basis based on how my life schedule was at the time. Games were definitely still good. Weekend games are great too. Games in Nola are pretty much always good tbh. I would table select when I could though, which may be harder for a visitor. But you should be fine if you're competent with the game.

Edit: Games almost always play deep as well. So if you're comfy playing deep, you'll be in heaven.

I remember when I played the rake was pretty high and on top of that you had to pay for time.

you never had to pay rake and time...it was time and a jackpot drop.

Thanks for the info. Seems like this will be quite fun. Online shows $6 rake per 1/2 hour. Is that high? Been playing in Tunica which doesn't have a rake like that so not used to that.

It's not time rake anymore, it's 5+2 max per hand now I believe.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Had to change my plans because I didn't realize NOLA's Harrah's rooms fill up so fast. Now I'm coming in this Thursday and staying until the following Wednesday. Still pretty new to poker, so hoping to do alright at the tables. How is the rake calculated? Not sure what 5+2 means. At Tunica it was 10% up to $4.

EDIT: I just called and they said 10% up to $5 with $1 going into BBJ after $20 total. That what 5+2 means?

That still seems kind of high to me.

So glad they changed it back to a regular 5+1 drop. I used to live in NOLA with my wife and when we both wanted to play it was $24/hr!!! That's pretty tough to overcome. I much rather prefer them to just take it out of the pot, the only time you're "getting raked" is when you are also yourself raking in chips! If you're not winning hands the time rake is so demoralizing.

Coming back in a few weeks for Halloween, looking forward to getting back in the action, saying hi to the jersey number dealer (forgot his name but he is awesome), and NOT eating lucky dogs (because as my Russian/superstitious wife taught me - anything with "lucky" in the title is inherently NOT lucky).

Well....It's now a $5+2 drop. I don't think it was ever $24/hour? As far as I know, it was $6/30 min, so $12/hour. Jersey number dealer (I think Christopher was his name, may be wrong) isn't here anymore. Not sure when he left or where he is now. And Lucky Dogs decided to withdraw from Harrah's, I believe because they weren't making money. This was pretty recent. Of course they replaced the area with slot machines instead of another street food vendor.

I was referring to the fact that my wife and I were both playing at the same time, so $24/hour from our shared bankroll (but we did get two hands for that price). Too bad he's not dealing there anymore, but i'm sure I'll still recognize some of the other dealers since I spent most of my nights in that poker room while attending Tulane. I was always more of a Fudrucker's Burger kind of guy anyways, or the crawfish sushi roll from the sushi spot across the way.

Ahh ok makes sense re: $24/hour. I didn't get to try the sushi place, but it's closed down (not sure how long it's been since you've been around). They just recently opened up an Acme Oyster House in that space, but I don't believe they take comps (sigh if true).

yeah time is pretty much almost always going to be cheaper than rake + jackpot unless you're a huge nit. Always funny to me that people complain about paying $6/half hr when this is really a steal.

yeah you're not considering how you win less when fish get raked. total amount from the table matters.
