I was told the recent tourneys have had good turnouts, in the 90's last week for the Tu/Thur tournaments.

They made some tournament changes for January. I'm not sure of the details but I think signups begin as early as 1:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. tourneys. Pay outs extend down to the top 8 depending on the number of entrants. There's also an added tournament on Wednesday morning at 2 a.m. (I believe), it's a $25 +5 cheapie; or maybe it's $20+5, I'm not sure. They didn't have anything printed with the new schedule, maybe they will get some info posted somewhere soon with the exact details.

I will say the choking cigarette smoke in the "no-smoking" poker room was significantly worse than I remembered in the summer. I had to leave or change tables a couple of times to try and dodge the smoke. The designated smoking areas are literally one step from the nearest poker tables.

They did print the January tournament schedule. Here's a cell phone photo of the sheet, maybe it's clear enough to read.

Let's all drop our pencils at 230 Monday morning. And then flush our toilets all at 245. You'll have to run fast from the poker room to your hotel room, but it will **** Mr Harrahs **** UP son.

Does anyone know if Harrah's Cherokee employs poker shills or prop players?

I don't know for a fact, but I highly doubt it. The regs that want to grind a lot will be there no matter what because it's the only legal poker action around. I've played there a lot and I couldn't think of anyone that would be one.

No there are no prop players. The tribe does not allow the employees to gamble anywhere within the casino.

There are no prop players at Cherokee. No need for them. Plenty of action. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is steady draggin' that rake.

I made it up this Saturday night and the action was down a lot from the last time I was up 5 or 6 weeks ago. Sat at 1/2 plo and in 30mins the game broke, no rebuys and just weak passive play from the regs. Finally they got a 2/5 game going and they couldnt get it to fill. Had to go get my action fix from the BJ tables....Whats up regs? Step up the action if you want the games to stay juicy....quit being nits

Never been, will make a trip soon. For you regs, are there any babes to look at/lay that pua game on in the casino? I guess is that it's like a retirement home of 50+'s but feel free to surprise me.

Oh and I plan to play the pokerz too.

Omaha and 2-5 don't get strong play. It is an every once in a while thing. There is plenty of 1-2 action and $$$ to be made. Looked like plenty of asses in the seats from where I was sitting. Especially for the cold, cold winter-time.

There are some babes, but don't get your hopes up. If you got game there is always a chance for a hook up. Lots of 50+s, but lots of youngsters too.

Does anyone know why Cherokee does not allow any electronics at the table? A cell phone can be rude and I’ve been at other pokers rooms that do not allow calls at the table. But most if not all allow you to listen to music, or check the time, or text on a call phone as long as you are not bothering the other players. Are they worried about hacking in to the tables?

Harrah's NOLA has the same rule, so it's not just confined to Cherokee. NOLA allows them during tournaments, but not during cash play.

So it's not a concern with hacking the tables.

I've heard it has something to do with a rule involving all gaming tables on the main floor, that has been in place for years at the blackjack tables.

When the poker room was briefly located in the auditorium upstairs for a few weeks, electronic devices were allowed at the tables.

The Harrah's in New Orleans allows electronic devices now. No texting at the table but you can listen to music and play with your phone as long as you have headphones in.

"One" version I was told by the floor was that they feared collusion using apps on phones to communicate with others at the table. Who knows. If that 'IS' true then they would have to be experts on many different devices in order to allow devices that only play tunes but ban the ones that have more capabilities. I'm guessing they just don't want to have to deal with the issue so they just ban everything. Kinda sucks. They should build juke boxes into the tables and have phone jacks like airplanes. LOL
