The wife and I stopped in at Harrahs Cherokee on our way back from Hilton Head on Friday. She hit the digitial blackjack tables and I sat in on a $1/2 game in the poker room. The staff was great and very helpful. I got my card setup and loaded in short order and was immediately seated upon returning to the poker room. I had played at PokerTek tables before at the Trump Plaza in AC and found everything to be pretty much all the same. The one thing I saw that was different was the straddle option -- straddles are not allowed in AC so this feature was turned off when I played there. Most of the players seemd to know one-another and based on the table talk that seemed to be mostly from playing together at home games and "other" games. In general most of the players were tight and passive with a few loose passive players sprinkled in for variety. I had the good fortune of having a few river value bets paid off so I ended my four hour session up about a buy-in. And the wife just had good fortune in general and doubled her buy-in at the BJ tables in about the same time.

Word to the wise: the parking situation at the casino is horrible. Self-parking for non-diamond card holders is a hefty walk from the casino. If you have a platinum card or higher I recommend taking advantage of the discounted valet parking rates ($3 for plat, not sure for diamond).

We stayed at the Microtel Inn about two miles away from the casino. Our room was clean and quiet and the beds were really quite comfortable. If you decide to stay there, you'll get a better rate if you book directly through the Microtel website and you can save an extra $10 if you book a non-refundable reservation. And the best part about staying at this place was that there was a Waffle House just across the parking lot. Gotta love their hashbrowns...

Thanks for the report Sir. I sure wish it were closer. As it is, no matter what I'm 6 hours away from any live poker, so I suppose I'll never get a shot at it.

They have shuttle buses.....tho i did walk back one day from the casino to the parking lot and it *is* a hefty walk if you choose to do that...but otherwise i've hopped onto the bus the two times i've been there.

Odd question that I got asked today. My buddy was at Indiana Downs last night to run a horse. He said "I thought about sitting down for a bit but I was concerned the card images would show up on my glasses [he wears prescription] so I decided not to." Paranoia or a real possibility?

I think it would be pretty tough for the reflection to show up on some glasses..Can't see that happening.

i've yet to see a reflection in anyone's glasses, and i wear glasses myself and i'm not concerned.

I'm not so sure. I was shocked to notice a perfect reflection of cards on my players card (what I use to tap the buttons) while playing over the weekend.

I think when they get the new poker room going which is going to be about 6 months+ out, but I'm sure someone else knows better than I do.

i'm thinking of making the drive to cherokee but need some updates.

Number of tables there and if there's a huge list to get into games on most given nights?

Liquor being sold yet in the casino?

Also, what games/limits are spread and if anyone has any new news on the games/ poker pro tables that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I think there is a pretty big difference between seeing a reflection off a flat surface from a foot away, and seeing one off a curved surface 3 feet away. Plus when people look at their cards, they are looking down, which will tend to beam the reflection back down.

I played last night and thought about this. You can see flashes of the table reflecting in people's glasses at times, but I'd be surprised if anyone could pick up hole cards off of someone's glasses.

Maybe not 100% impossible for an eagle eye vs someone with an unusual way of checking their hole cards, but I didn't see much chance, at all.

7 tables. Huge list only on Friday night, Sat late afternoon/night, IINM. No liquor yet, rumored to be coming in Aug. 1/2 NL and 3/6 Limit HE are usually running, 2/5 NL on weekends, 3/6 L can be spotty during the week. Rare Omaha game.

Played last night, 4-5 tables 1/2 action going while I was there from 5-11:30
one table 3/6. Tables work great, IMO, I almost prefer them to a live dealer. The speed and no tipping aspects are huge. Somewhat reduced opportunity for reading tells, and missing the physical sensations of chips and cards are the flip side.

I will be there this Sunday and possibly Monday. Anyone going to be around then? Also are they running any tourneys or is it just cash games?

I guarantee that if you make the drive to Cherokee to play PokerPro, you will enjoy it a lot more than you anticipate, if you are a small stakes player. If you generally play higher, eg. 5/10 NL, then drive somewhere else.

No tournaments yet due to only having 7 tables. They plan on having more tables and more options when they move into the new poker room.

Much like real cards, you have to really not be protecting your hand for someone to see your cards. I've had that happen before and i told the guy before the blind came around for me to get into the game that he'd best cover up before i get in, because he's shown me the last 3 hands. Other than that, you aren't seeing someone's cards in their glasses (i wear glasses myself and never felt like i've given my cards away in a reflection).

when i was up there tuesday i heard 2011 for the new add-on to be finished...i'm assuming that's where they're wanting the new room. I've also been told they'll then have up to as many as 40 tables by one of the players...which i DON'T believe. 15-20 i'd believe, Unless they're planning on running some massive 400 man tournaments (more likely 300max + regular cashgames) there probably won't be a need for more than 15 tables.
