Steeser, was gracious enough to give me position on him as we sat down at the same time next to each other. I had never played at a racetrack before, and it was very interesting to me how part of our table had betting forms on the table and was watching the racing action on the screens over the tables instead of paying attention to the poker game.
There was a tournament going on at the same time so several tables were full of players and a couple of cash games going. I had very few hands of note. One hand there was a player all-in, and three players in with him on the flop gave me odds to call an open ended straight draw. I think it was a mistake shoving all-in on the turn into an empty side pot when I picked up an eight high flush draw to go along with my straight draw, but oh well. I did get the other two players to fold, and I hit my flush on the river to win the pot.
Steeser had an interesting hand where he flopped broadway, made the nut flush on the turn, bet all the way and still got paid off by a baby flush. We both tried to run bluffs against different opponents that went badly. In mine, early to mid position raiser pre-flop continuation bet into a 9 high flop. I was pretty sure the board did not hit their range, but failed to realize that they were short stacked, so after my re-raise I was shocked that the player 3-bets me for $20 more and is all-in. I sheepishly call with two overs and lose to pocket 7s. Yes, some times I am a donkey.
Hoping this is not too long!
I played at Northville a few months ago and I found Jeff anything but professional. There were 2 players at my table, one was a regular and the other wasn't, and they were arguing back and forth. It got so bad that the floor came over told both players that if they don't stop they would have to leave. Then the new player says something again, and the dealer calls the floor over. Jeff raises his voice and makes it clear that it's his "last warning." So then a few minutes later the regular starts saying some stuff about the new guy when he wasn't paying attention and the dealer just ignores it. So I tell the dealer to call the floor over and nothing happens at ALL. I tell Jeff, "I think it's wrong to threaten the new guy that if he says one more word that he's gone but if the regular says something you just hush hush it off." Then Jeff just blew up. He started yelling, "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?" and a bunch of other ridiculous stuff. I just ignore it, not really trying to get in an argument. Haven't really gone there too much afterwards.
