If charities can't go seven days, there will be a lot of that. I expect that there will be a lot of partnerships, with two brothers owning nearby places, taking turns getting the weekends, that sort of thing.
Of couse, that probably only makes business sense if at least one of the places is owned by a brother. Paying double rent, along with the double utilites, would be a real killer.
I can see a scenario where there are two nearby locations owned by John Smith and Joe Smith, with stuff being moved back and forth --maybe even heaters, to save on utility costs. That would be a pain in the butt, but I see all kinds of ways that people/groups will try to stay open seven days under two business names as cheaply as possible. I'm not sure what laws would apply to something like that.
I took a business law class in community college just because it sounded interesting, but that mostly covered contract law regarding buyers and sellers. Nothing like this ever came up. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would love to hear them.
Maybe Russ Fox (US income tax expert who posts on 2+2) might have some ideas where someone would be crossing the line into tax fraud.
