4/8 and 30/60 are the regular holdem limit games that run around town. I don't often see anything in between that but sometimes 10/20 runs. I think on the weekend you can find a 4/8 Omaha 8 game at the Gates but I'm not positive on that one.

The Golden Gates does spread Omaha and Choice. I have seen 4/8 with a half kill as well as the spread limit (2/100 and 5/100). Its a great card room.

I'm thinking about heading up Thursday or Friday and trying to get an 8/16 game started at the Isle. Has the game ever gone? Anyone interested in playing? My plan was to show up, start the game, and vote the BBJ drop off the table if they'll still let us do that. I'd be open to agreeing to show one card to win a pot or mixing in a round of O/8 (playing half LHE half O/8) if people are interested. I could probably be up by 3 or 4 if people want to try a slightly early start.

If you're interested, do you have a preference for day? PM me if you want to swap cell numbers.

We've had a few players up here at a time for $8/$16 and $10/$20. We can play it half and half with O8 if you like. Get a group of folks together and we'll do it.

Best,
Matt

I might (might) be able to go up on Saturday (sorry, I have this pesky job to be at M-F). If I do, I'll call my name in for an 8/16-10/20 LHE interest list, but I'm not really into O/8.
06-21-2011 , 08:04 PM
I don't have my heart set on O/8. I was just thinking that there was a good Omaha contingent, and maybe we could get a couple more people at the table if we added that to the mix. I'm happy to just play hold'em. So far zero responses. It turns out that I missed other plans Friday, so it is Thursday for me. I could be talked in to Saturday if a few of us were going to be up there. I guess if there isn't anyone who wants to play lower, I'll just go play the 30 at Ameristar. I'll post here if anyone PMs me about playing on Thursday.
06-21-2011 , 11:26 PM
If you can catch more players by adding O/8, then I say go for it. I just won't be one of them. There's a pretty good chance I won't be able to get up there this week anyway.
06-22-2011 , 10:53 AM
O/8 is easy. You just use exactly one or two cards from your hand, and the rest from the board. Flip your hand over, and we'll tell you if you win.

You'll find the most games at Ameristar.
How far are Blackhawk and Ameristar from Denver, and if it matters, the Convention Center?

I'm visiting in late August and I'm debating (a) whether I want to play at all, and if so, (b) how best to get there if I do. I'd probably be pokering on a Monday night if that matters.

Google maps says about 40 miles and 50 minutes. I'm not sure how bad rush hour is through that stretch, but you could easily add 30 minutes if you left at a bad time. I'd definitely check out buses if you don't rent a car. It looks like there is service from downtown. Let me know if you go up, I might be able to sneak away and meet you up there.

Hey Matt,
I was up there yesterday and the rumor has it that you are no longer doing the 500 on saturady is that true? And just a little feedback. I've been up there about a dozen times and I havent seen or heard anything that says you have a tournament, I think if you could get the word out to those richer players you could have a very successful game. I also think that that buy in should go toward comps (which no casino does). Just an idea.

I would love to see someone dominate golden gates tourneys. But as of now they have the best buyins with the most players. The bad part is I played in the 150 on saturday which had 70 runners. They total prize pool was $10500 then they payed out $8700 so they raked 1800$ sounds like an number for the house right?? That is a $125+$25 tourney which is kind of expensive in my eyes. But those dealers are always rude as hell!! They hate there jobs and are just unpleasent! We ended up choping so i got 1k, which isnt to bad... but for the experiance??? I dont know poker rooms over head but with that number they should be able to take care of their dealers to not have them be jerks the whole time. And instantly when they get to the cash game table they are very nice...

Have your heard anything more with the wpt stuff?

any ways let me know what you all think?

Starting in July, we'll let the $500 buy-in rest for awhile, as we have only averaged about 12 players in the 4 weeks we've run it. We will go to a $100 total buy-in on Saturdays at Noon beginning in July with a VERY player-friendly structure. The reason the $500 buy-in can't go toward comp value is because the $500 doesn't go to the casino, it goes back to the players. I intentionally try to keep our entry fees low (between 5% and 12.5% depending on the tournament type), especially as compared to the rest of this market. We offer a "dealer add-on" in our tournaments, so our dealers are sure to get something for their tournament dealing time (of course we always hope that the tournament winners will add something to their cause). Our dealers are very friendly, IMO, and we are looking forward to gradually increase the size of our tournament fields.

As to your inquiry about WPT, the prospects are looking good!

Hope that answers some of your questions.

Best,
Matt

Yeah, I understand O/8. Just not my game. Sorry.

Hey DougL,
I am also in Boulder and would come up tonight for 8/16, even though I haven't played limit in many many years. Also I have NEVER played O8, but would give it a shot (lucky rest of the table) if that got the game going.

I can't make it tonight but will be up there tomorrow night and probably next Thursday night as well. Would love to have a reason to not play at Ameristar.
06-23-2011 , 04:24 PM
Is anyone interested in just playing a home game in Boulder? Not necessarily casino stakes, although that would be okay, too.

So far, it looks like we'd be playing HU. I guess I'll be catching a movie tonight. I'll check again in a couple hours, but I literally couldn't find anyone. I was kind of thinking about hitting the 30 at Ameristar, but I'll be in Vegas in a few days.
06-25-2011 , 10:45 PM
I saw the Ameristar had 8 names on the interest list for 15/30, what is the reason for them not starting a table for it? Is it because most of the list is made up of people sitting in other games and they don't want to risk breaking other tables? I'm still fascinated and confused that the two limits in town are 4/8 and 30/60 with nothing in between.
06-25-2011 , 11:20 PM
I was there too and asked if the 15/30 game was going. They said it was an interest list but it could not start because all their tables were in use already.
06-26-2011 , 08:10 AM
In my own self interest I would prefer there to be no game in between 4/8 and 30/60. But more power to you guys if you can get it going.

I was on the list yesterday, and I've seen a list about that size before, but I didn't really expect it to run. It was about 8 players long the last time I looked, which was when there was still a table or two open. I asked the podium if he's ever seen it actually run and he said he's never seen it. It's a bit encouraging that they're at least willing to put up an interest list, but I'm losing faith that these games are ever going to go anywhere. At this point, if it got going, it'd be almost all players waiting to get into the 30/60 and it would probably break pretty quickly. 10/20 ends up being pretty similar. I wish it'd at least get going a couple times, though, and hopefully build to a regular game. I thought we were on track for a nice regular 10/20 for a while there, but it just died all of a sudden.

It seems like it's almost going to require them to hold out a table specifically for a 10/20 or 15/30 game if it's ever actually going to go. The whole room fills up by mid afternoon. I can certainly understand why that won't happen, though - you can't really ask them to leave a table's worth of rake sitting there not being collected unless you really think it's going to go.

Maybe it's time to just accept it and work on my 1/2 and 2/5 game. I do fairly well at 1/2 when I do play it, but I just don't like playing it.

We are always willing to spread a $10/$20 or $15/$30 at the Isle. Just come on in and get on the list and we'll be happy to do it.

Best,
Matt

Yeah, I appreciate that, but I've called in and checked on the games, started an interest list, etc., and it never goes.

We've talked about this in these threads before, how people need to commit to go play at a certain time or whatever. I'd be willing to do that, except that I just can't say even days in advance whether I can even go up there on any given day.
06-26-2011 , 05:23 PM
I will be a reg in any limit game around the 10/20 level until online poker comes back.

Matt,

Maybe you could help organize the players who want a regular limit game between 4/8 and 30/60. What we need is a regular time when we can be sure the game will run so it's worth driving up. Otherwise we all just end up at Ameristar on a waitlist for 2 hours and playing a limit we don't really want to play and pay an absurd rake. Wow I sound like an old man.
