Had one of the biggest dream tables ever at 4am, 5 fish all VPIPing over 40. Funny enough, I was down 1k after 60 hands (!) but managed to grind it to $500 loss despite running 1k under EV.

Played most of the night, lost money, 4k under EV for the month. Gonna drink away the variance hopefully when I tailgate the Rutgers PSU game today.

hand 3: betting turn might be fine but i like checking more especially given your flop sizing. river is prolly x/f, he might not even be folding a Tx there

hand 4: 4b or fold pre...mostly fold

hand 6: i would almost always 4b/gii pre to avoid playing AKo OOP post-flop

hand 7: dont really like the river raise. blockers arent that good, rep such a narrow range that might not even take this line and after checking turn and river they often dont believe you (i learned that the hard way)

I don't mind the flat AJo vs aggro reg except that they usually 3bet a very top heavy range (such as KQo). You let them realize too much equity when flatting wide. I'd use a more aggresive 4bet strat vs the spewier 3bettors.

3.) After playing with this villain a bit more, river is 100% a give up. Curious as to why I shouldn't double barrel Kx when it's such a good card for our range.

4.) AJo I think is way too strong of a hand to fold given positions especially against a guy 3b around 15% from button. I usually have a mixed strat with 4b/calling these hands depending on the reg.

6.) In hindsight, makes it way easier to play especially since i'm gonna have to close my eyes and hit call a lot against aggro fish. He was 3betting tons of garbage and barreling way too wide with a high 4b/f % which is why I flatted

7.) You right. Just thought you never have 10x and I do. His call is absolutely fine I'd say.

Yeah, I think with those super aggro players I use more of a polarised 4betting strat. Decided to flat here since I have a hand that dominates a ton of his range (J10,QJ,KJ, A2-A10s) etc. Once I hit the jack just can never fold against almost any run out.

After reading the update, I proceeded to also drop $1.5k today lol. This might sound cliche: The best remedy is to think about all the things you are thankful for -ot food, warm clothing, a bed to sleep on. Even being able to play legal online poker is something most people don't have in this country. Hang in there!

To echo what fast wrote, you don't earn a living being a professional when it seems like all you can do is win. You earn it by finding a way to get through the hard times and finding a way to stay optimistic through it all. The old saying "a hard way to make an easy living" always sticks in my head. There's a lot of things about this job that make it seem like a piece of cake. But when things are going bad...this **** gets difficult!

I think you have the mental toughness and positive outlook to get through the worst of downswings. Rooting for you dude.

Too true...it can be tough, and I know somewhere down the line I'll hit a downswing way worse...and then I'll have a worse one after that and so on and so forth. Appreciate the support 100% though!

Played very little last 3 days, probably 3k hands, but played well and got a nice $1,500 boost. About 22 BI under EV on 200, but definitely see an improvement in my play despite the variance.

Playing 3 of the next 4 days to finish off the month and ill have a recap

November Recap

Party Stake Breakdown/Graph

WSOP Stake Breakdown/Graph

All in all, this was a very, very, very trying month that I think will be fruitful going forward. I was able to play about 77k hands despite running quite bad through the entire month, also put in a lot of off table work using mostly PT4. I did a lot of population study which is something I hadn't done before which I think helped. As soon as I get a new desktop (with Windows) I'll get the full version of PIO solver.

Overall, very happy with the effort I put in and everything that I could control. And despite the awful run bad, I still made +800 with RB.

Will post December goals/ interesting hands tomorrow, about to crash as it is.

I have a lot to talk about, but I'm not really in the mindset to go on a huge tangent. Some things have happened.

-Decided to take a longterm stake. Will get coached by some of the best players in the world. In the long run, definitely +EV. Contract was very fair IMO.

-Giving away some profits obviously so have a few job intereviews this upcoming week as a part time dogwalker. (Ironically, I thought getting a part time job would be pretty humbling, but overall I'm ok with it. If I want to stick with poker I have to get a lot better)

-Still running terribly bad. But even some of the regs are so terrible, so if I just go from bad to mediocre I think I can start making some really good money

1.) My only question is if 109s with no hearts should be in our continuing range to 66% flop bet, I think it's OK, but could possibly be wrong.

2.) Against boss reg. 3 bet fish for value, and he cold calls. Normally, I think most villains range kinda face up with this but think with fish he's uncapped here, but haven't played enough to range him definitively. Sucks to fold this much equity on turn.

Some Updates:

As I said in the previous post, I ended up taking a staking deal and am getting coached by some top, top players which I'm thrilled about and I had my first coaching method where we went over leaks. I have quite a bit but overall I feel my game is much stronger than the average 200 reg and I do some things well that most people don't, but I'm also too passive in some spots so def trying to amp the aggression up.

I still plan on getting a part time job in January til to make up for sharing my profits but overall think I'll be ok. Been studying more than playing honestly this month.

Caught a lot of heat and have played well. Was up +5.5k til todays session, now I'm up 4k . Feeling pretty good overall, in great shape, eating healthy and I have a girlfriend now so keeping quite busy.

Hands!:

1.) I never really get tilted when fish do dumb stuff but it definitely annoys me when regs do terrible things and win. This villain was a fish so I felt fine with it!

Surely. Villain is a capable reg and will balance so I'll c/b this flop more often than betting. But I don't always want to c/b top pair good kicker where I can get some value from his Qx and worse Ax, villain is quite aggro so I'd say his range is wider despite 3betting my UTG.

But yeah overall I'll c/b this flop at a higher frequency then I bet it

Month has been very good results wise as I'm nearing 6k table profit despite lack of volume (35k) due to the holidays. Been implementing a ton of new things into my game that once I get sorted out will really make me a pain in the ass to play against (hopefully).

Been playing very well this month although today I was pretty poor, like C game, had one fun hand against reg below.

Yeah in reality I bluff catch too wide^^^

Have had a good holiday season overall. I turned 24 and hit my official one year anniversary of doing this full time. Unfortunately, I've gotten sick and my parents house internet was too poor to really play, so volume was super low this month although I expected it.

Very fired up about poker in general and think my results in 2017 will be infinitely better than 2016. Have already set up my January schedule, only 2 days off first 20 days of the month, before I head to AC for a week of cash games.

Will do a yearly recap and overview the 31st or 1st

Wrapping up this thread

I started this thread about 16 months and I always find it kind of cool seeing the ups and downs documented here, especially all the help I got here from other posters.

Some Special Thanks:

-To Victor, my first coach who helped me go from absolutely atrocious to just bad, I learned a lot of fundamentals from you.

-My parents for somehow being ok with me going full time poker right after graduating college

-Plastic Elephant, my second coach who really took my game up a notch and is a fantastic coach along with being a great guy.

-The NJ regs who pop in here with advice! Redsoxnets, TWWWOOO, and of course Poker Arb who has given me amazing advice that I always appreciate even though we've been battling the last few days with poker!

-Fast, for believing in my game to give me a chance for a stake.

-FatnSweaty, for trying to get me to go from a nit to a LAG...you finally got through to me

-Finally, all the coaches at BTS along with the community! My games taken an enormous leap the last month cause of these guys

A look back at my 2016 goals

NOTE: I like setting very difficult goals, that while are attainable, will be difficult to achieve. I find I work harder and it keeps me motivated

1.) Make $80,000 through poker

Thoughts: That's about 6x what I made in 2015. However, I'm now playing full time and am willing to put the effort. I believe I'm intelligent enough to get to the levels needed to make this a reality.

2.) Play 700,000 hands of online poker

Over 11 months (I plan to be in Vegas for most of the WSOP) it's about 63.6k hands a month. Doable, but will take a lot of hard work.

3.) Shot take 1kNL by the end of the year.

Once again: Will be difficult and my technical game needs an infinite amount of work, so this will bear watching. But in the States where the games are much weaker I think it can definitely happen.

4.) Play 500 hours of live poker.

Thoughts: Most of this will happen in Vegas where I'll probably play 200-250 hours

5.) Cash in 3 tournaments

I'll probably play in 12-15 for the year. Although I have 3 for the month of January.

6.) Start a Twitch Stream

Thoughts: Why the hell not

7.) Coach some students for micro cash games

This will come later in the year but I've had experience tutoring and it'd be a nice way for additional set income

8.) Erase Tilt completely and become Elite mentally

Pretty important for a poker player. I have a very even keel temperment and rarely tilt. But focus can be an improvement and occasionally have spurts of entitlement tilt

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Life Goals

1.) Get fit again

Since college I've always been in pretty good shape, muscular and at about 10% bf. It's slipped since I graduated so I'd like to stay at around 200 lbs but 9% bf (I'm 6'3" btw)
SUB GOALS:
1.) Bench 225x8 2.) Squat 350x10 3.) Deadlift 450x6 by the end of the year

2.) Move out of my parents house

I love my parents...but the sooner the better, do you know how hard it is to bring women home?

3.) Start a stream of steady cash flow outside of Poker

I'd love to rent out an apartment complex and I would consider myself financially literate. I don't plan on investing in the market with how things are shaping up

4.) Visit 5 states I haven't been to before

Part of the reason I chose this profession was for the freedom so why not

5.) Take a vacation abroad

Hopefully at the end of the year to celebrate a great first year.

That's all I got everybody I hope everyone has a phenomenal 2016
2016 Recap

So unfortunately, my db and laptop completely crashed late December so I won't be able to post graphs atm (but as soon as it gets fixed, if it does I'll post some). I made a shade over 30k this year. Obviously not what I was looking for, but who said it was gonna be easy! Made 15k live over 475 hours. 18k cash online. A few more thousand online tourneys, and dropped 9k on live tourneys (1/21 in cashes lol). I also did not hit 700,000 hands I was around the 530k mark when I checked last.

That being said, I only profited twice out of the first six months, and five times out of the last months. It could be variance but my game has definitely evolved. I beat every stake upto 400NL (small sample) including 3bb EV at 200NL over 200k hands.

I accomplished the goal of this thread as I am playing full time, I did move out of my parents and I'm very content with how life is going right now. BUT overall I'm still a struggling pro and I don't have that much financial stability. Moving on, I will be making a new thread with a different direction (still mostly poker) but other facets as well that will hopefully evolve into me playing highstakes

Thanks again everyone

Congrats on what I'd consider a successful year as a pro Jerrad. It seems like you've grown a lot as a player and, with living on your own and all that, as a person. You better send me a link to the next thread so I don't miss any of it!
