hi guys. I have some personal/poker goals for this year which I think I'll have a better chance of completing if I post them publicly

personal info- 18 years old, freshman engineering student at a good university. after a rough first semester (failed a couple classes) I've decided to take a lighter load and refocus myself academically

personal goals:
[ ] pass all my classes
[ ] swim or do some sort of exercise a couple times a week
[ ] gain weight (this is hard because of Crohn's disease)

poker info- started playing 10 months ago, right before black friday. lost a couple $40 deposits at 2nl on PS/FT, then was breakeven at 4nl over a large sample on Merge. I read several books and made a habit of reading strategy threads on 2+2. Put $50 on Bodog in summer & ran it up to $1400/50nl by December using good (20+ buyins) bankroll management. I cashed out $400 and moved my remaining $1000 to TruePoker after Bodog anonymized their tables. I proceeded to lose 10 buyins at 50nl as a product of not playing for 2 weeks and making the mistake of jumping back into the games without studying first. I moved down to 25nl and am down 4 buyins after a couple sessions. Since I don't have any money to reload, I think what's best is that I move down again to build a healthier roll for 25nl. In hindsight I should've moved down at $750 because of this, but whatever.

I also learned of a pretty sick staking opportunity through a family friend today, so I'll look into that once I stabilize my game.

poker goals:
[ ] back to solidly beating 50nl by summer
[ ] 200nl by the end of the year
[ ] continue to watch DC videos before each session
[ ] review/post key hands from each session
[ ] get staking deal

small winrate over 4k hands at 25nl so far. I realized one of my huge leaks is playing marginal hands too aggressively, so I'm rewatching some Micro series on DC to get my fundamentals back in line

Pretty gross 25nl session today. KK into AA, 2 set-over-sets, >3 buyins under EV, and the hand below vs a 63/3. Ended down only 2 BI though, & I feel like I played well, apart from needing to tighten up pre vs shortstackers.

Better session tonight.. played well except for a hand where I got it in w/ QQ (no FD) on a T94m flop vs a reg's checkraise. Figured I was flipping vs a FD but if I took time to think about his range after he called in the BB I would've found an easy fold (he had 44). Most of my misplayed hands are when I act too quickly so I'm gonna work on slowing down my decisions, even though it's tough with no timebank.

Also, my goals are a little off. I should hit 50nl within a couple weeks, and 100nl+ by summer.

decent session today, had some bad beats to start it off but ended up a couple buyins & felt like I played well

I'd like to hear some opinions on this 25nl hand:

I open KK 100bb deep in CO, & BB (22/8) calls.
Flop is 965r, I cbet ~2/3 pot & get checkraised 5x.

I figured his range was sets, 78s, & JJ, because I'd expect QQ+ to 3bet pre & pairs under JJ to call the flop. I didn't include any bluffs because of his preflop stats, and hero-folded. I stoved the range afterwards & my equity vs it is 35%. I could have (and maybe should have) called the flop, but I don't mind the fold because making a read and sticking to is something that I've been working on. Any thoughts? I wouldn't consider it against a more aggressive player.

only got a few sessions in this week but did pretty well. started off down a couple buyins, then caught some run-good

what DC series did you find most helpful when starting out?

I didn't get DC until a few months ago, but "From the Ground Up" is probably best to watch first.

GL man...just stumbled upon this. How's the Crohn's? I've been suffering with some intestinal issues myself and I've leaned that diet helps alot.

yeah diet is important, especially when you're sick. I've been doing pretty well the past year though, just trying to put on weight

first 50nl session was uneventful, I'll move down if I drop below 800
