More importantly, you can build a great social life around your job if you like your job. Hardly a good thing to tell people you are a professional poker player nowadays.

Furthermore, what is the cap yearly income the best grinders make today? I remember a thread a few years back where limon says 100k income is about the top of the top. Its hard to find games higher than 5/T in a casino now so $100/hr seems to be the best estimation unless you have some other talents or connections.

I think casinos might slowly increase their toke, they havent really done it in years so expecting one to happen isnt unreasonable, even $1 extra per hand can lead to substantial decrease in winrate.
Also, no grinders ever factor in time off the table in order to improve their game, whether its interacting in forums, reading books, watching videos or talking through a hand, these take time. When you run good, you study less, but when you run bad, you MUST study. So how much additional time does studying actually take out of your life?

Sorry for being a bit of a negative nancy.

The assumed cap may be accurate in a casino and it's much more of a grind, but home games are where you get rich.

Pretty impressed with how hard ECGrinder works (On track for 2k hour volume year?). He also seems to know how to enjoy life too.

Work hard and play hard -- the epitome of a successful up and coming pro.

Wrt taxes, I suggest anyone making descent $$ from poker listen to Bart Hanson's Deuces Cracked free podcast of Deuce Plays, "Episode 56: Poker Taxation"

He interviews his CPA and they go over a number of things. The most important, IMO, is the CPA suggests finding a CPA who has adequate experience with gambling taxation, which I'm sure not all CPA's will have

Thanks for the link, listening now.

And keep up the great work ECG, it's very impressive what you've accomplished at the poker table. I was wondering if you ever thought about coaching live poker down the road? It might be good for extra income on the side and such. BTW, place was so packed last night which was good to see. If I knew you were there I would have said hi.

Hey man are you friends with Andy Walsh? If so I think we met briefly when you visited BC. Anyways I've really enjoyed the thread, GL the rest of the way!

From my online days, I can 100% recommend Russ Fox. Guy is a consummate professional. Super knowledgeable and easy to work with. He's also well versed in taxes for poker players (was pretty much the go to contact for Leggo Poker)

Harry has been killing it at LATB and commerce T/20.

I'm at LAX about to fly to LAS. Met the most awesome girl ever. She's half Dutch half Spanish, finishing grad school in LA, working 4 jobs, is a bikini model, and is a sick artist. She does a lot of anime stuff and dresses up as her characters at events. Im in love. Pete is gonna be so jelly.

Used uber for a ride to the airport, great service. Off to Vegas for a night, driving back to LA Wednesday. May play, may party. Odds on my car starting?

Man, it feels great to be back in Vegas. Staying at Riviera for $18/night + a one time $15 resort fee. Awesome value. Car started right up.

Been doing planning/financial stuff on the laptop. I have a somewhat complicated Google calendar and Google task lists system. I have calendars for travel, finances, and general, along with 7 different task lists. It's an excellent way to stay focused on goals, but needs to be used every day to be effective.

For Poker/life in August I'm going for:

Decide between Vegas and LA as a place to live.
100 poker hours LA
100 poker hours LV
Explore both cities
Go on 3+ dates. Meeting a girl that awesome last night really opened my eyes to what's important
Crush the **** out of 5/T and above

I have a ton of side projects going on. Once they get going I may post about them here.

For habits, I'm going for:

5 min meditation/day
30 min reading/day (4 hour workweek)
30 min guitar/day
Journal entry or vblog/day
1 Feynman physics lecture/wk
Workout 2+ times/week

Pretty much feeling like it's time to crush life and ball out of control

Going back to the room to meditate, read and jam on the guitar. Either getting Lucky or playing cards tonight

I'd suggest taking the coursra class on into computer science using python for when you are looking to learn new ****. It will also give you a great tool if you ever look to get back into the work pool.

Finishing up breakfast at the bellagio cafe. I have to give it a surprisingly high review. Food was excellent, service very fast, and prices reasonable. Except for the $7.50 OJ.

I played shorthanded 5/T/20 with an NBA player at the Wynn last night.

On the list for the B game now. May hang in Vegas for another night.

I'll check it out, I've always liked programing but it's been a long time. I did a lot in C in highschool.
