Hi guys.

I had a slack month in August and I need some motivation and somewhere to be accountable for my performance so I'm going to try one of these

I found poker about 3 years ago and donked around in small stakes SNGs for a while before moving to cash. I was a slight loser for around 150k hands in mostly $25nl before I started to figure the game out and take it more seriously. That was around Feb this year. Since then I have played mostly RUSH FR and moved up through the stakes untill I reached $200nl. I've hardly played much non-rush except for about 5k $400nl hands before introduced the rush version. Here is my graph of the year so far.

I have two goals

1) $50k total profit by 31/12/2010
2) $10k month

I have started to play less RUSH and expect to continue this as I want to get used to normal game dynamics as I hope to move up to $400nl + in the next month or so.

Current BR $13,407
Current stakes 90% $200nl, 10% $400nl

Here are monthly totals so far:

I felt like I played really well this session. Not playing rush was fun too, I had forgotten the kinds of dynamic you can build up when you have the same few regs on every table. Makes for some interesting spots!!

I got accused of slow-rolling for these two hands. It's not like I time way down or anything probably only to 4-5 seconds with both I just didn't snap. I guess with the dynamic we had together they are both probably snap-calls but after playing rush for so long it takes me longer to process that info.

Oh well, I hope you have forgiven me skelmr

Nice graph and gl with this goal!! how many tables do you play at once?

Thanks!

Regarding number of tables, I mix it up. Earlier in the year I was almost 100% 4 tabling rush. Recently I've bee playing 3 of $200nl and 3 of $400nl.

Non rush I play 6-12. I like to start a lot of tables. My session generally starts by sitting with anyone that is sitting alone then sitting alone myself then joining waitlist until I have 12 tables running. at $200nl I have 0 table selection.

So I've had a bit of a think about the goals I set and done a few calculations. When I posted the OP I had total profit of pretty much exactly $20k leaving $30k to be earned in 4 months or $7,500/pm month for the rest of the year.

It seem's a little daunting, I've only ever had a month that big once (in July) but I see guys from the SSFR forum posting $10k months at $1/$2 every month so I know it can be done!!

I am not a professional player. I have a full-time job so my ability to play huge volume is restricted. I hope to average about 50k hands a month, 200k more total by Dec 31. If I stay at $200nl for the whole time that implies a required win rate of 7.5bb/100 which while possible (especially with some table starting) is for sure at the high end of what is attainable.

My win rate this year so far is more like 4bb/100 so I'm definitely going to need to play a significant portion of my hands at $400nl +

The FR games on tilt at this level don't run in good volume (probably no more than 4-6 tables during the hours I play) so I think I may need to start playing some 6max when my bankroll tells me to increase my % of $400nl + play if I want to keep my volume up.

I have a builder coming over this morning to put some new bamboo floors down in my apartment so I didn't have time for a full session and played some RUSH. Thats what I like most about rush, you can start, stop and play short sessions easily. Anyway hot run continues.

Month so far..

At this rate I'll need to make a higher goal!!

If only it was always this easy...

Played a session of $2/4 rush and got crushed. The sick thing is even though I dropped 6 buy-ins I actually ran significantly above all in EV!! I remember twice flopping sets with KK vs AA aipf. Most of the time I was getting in in dead.

I don't feel I played too bad though. There were a couple of call downs I shouldn't have made but all in all I'm reasonable comfortable with all the plays I made. Not much you can do when people flat call your 4 bets and flop sets against your TPTK. Just got to ride the variance.

I do feel like I might have been owned in this hand though. V is 16/11 reg in these games. It's kind of a weird spot because the BTN stealer is quite loose and I assume the BB villain knows this as well and he expects me to be 3 betting pretty light. Flop fold feels pretty gross because he could def. have AQ, KQ, KK but I should have folded the turn.

Just a curious question: Why didn't you 4bet river on the AQ hand? Feels like you left some money out there.

I didn't 4 bet because he is almost never showing up with worse there. To be honest I considered folding as nitty as that sounds!

He bet/3bet the turn and river, pretty stupid play if he doesn't have AK. I would expect JT here never. Even if I knew JT was in his range for making this play as I would expect it to fold the river.

If I had the notes on him then that I have now (weak player, doesn't understand relative value) I think I would def shove river. If he is calling JT he is probably calling all sorts of other weird stuff (Ax, KQ etc)

River shove is very good here. V is a bit fishy and I expect him to call with every almost every full house here. Betting 2/3 pot misses a ton of value.

Villain in this hand is laggy and very stick post flop. This hand illustrates having a plan and sticking to it. I know this flop doesn't hit him hard very often cut from my experience with this player I expect him to very frequently peel flop and also turn alot. My sizing is very important in this hand, I set up turn so I have a scary 2/3 river shove.

Thanks. Hard to pinpoint a single thing that changed my game. I think discipline was a huge part of it. It's one thing knowing the right play and another thing totally to execute it in game. Ever say to yourself "he just has to have it here"... and then call anyway?

Another important improvement to my game is value-betting better. Being able to put out a 1/4 pot bet on the river and get your opponent to call with third pair/knowing when they'll call any bet and and shoving the river for 1.5 pot we'll add tons of bb to winrate.
