I don't really wan't to try and defend my play in the 58s hand as I wouldn't really be recommending it especially in a uNL situation. I would almost always fold as standard. It was just a combination him making it so small, having position and being a little deep.

Your hand with AJ I think I might call for the same reason (deep, IP, small) but it's going to be awkward because your hand is dominated by a lot of his range. As a rule I think it's better to call with stuff that plays easier post. What are you going to do when it comes J26 or A54 and he leads out 3/4 pot?

88 I limp behind because the both players in the blinds are good aggressive regulars and will realize that I am often light when I iso from the button and re-raise me frequently forcing me to fold. If I limp behind and they raise most of the time the original limper calls and I can come along with a hand that plays great IP with the correct implied odds. With different players in the blinds raising 88 is standard.

KJ I doubt I have any fold equity worth considering. The range of hands he flats from BB just totally crush that board. On review I can see flatting the donk and letting BB shove being slightly better as it might induce the fishy guy to come along and it doesn't really affect my equity unless he folded A

OMG this ****ing sucks arse!!! I feel like I've made some huge improvements in my game and I'm playing better than I have been all year and I'm just getting hammered in all-in spots.

Don't think so. My unconfirmed schedule at this stage is

Asia: April-July
Europe: August-October
Americas: November-February

Nothing is booked in yet so I'm still pretty flexible but I am going around the world in that order so WSOP is pretty much out of the question. If anyone is going to be in those vicinities around those dates and wants to get a house get in touch. The basic plan is to get a "base" in each of the regions and live there for 5-10 weeks and spend the rest of the time travelling.

2010 a Poker Odyssey

Well, the years over and I have to say overall it was a success. I am a little disappointed I didn’t make my $50k goal but honestly it was never that likely I would. I started the year Feb 1 playing $25nlwith $1000 in my account and finished rolled for $400nl and total profit of >$30k. If someone had suggested I would finish the year a $30k winner back in Feb I would have snap accepted it just stings a little to have been in a position to make a real good run at $50k it and to stumble.

The year had its highs and lows for sure. At the end of September with profits at $30k and just having finished my first 5 figure profit month I was on top of the world. I was playing $2/4 as my main game and crushing. I was fearless, starting tables with anyone and everyone... and winning. I felt on top of the world, I felt like I could just keep on moving up and crushing the game. Obviously I was a little naive and over confident but October brought be back to reality in a big way. I started running bad... really bad... the worst I’ve ever run. By the end of October I was down -$8k in all in EV and -$6k in bankroll and it didn’t stop there. The first half of November didn’t change much, I had dropped $2/4 entirely by then and even played some sessions at $100nl trying to stem the flow. By the time I turned it around I had lost almost $10k at the tables. Thankfully for rakeback my actual dollars lost was more like $7k but it hurt. Both my confidence and my bankroll were crushed.

Thankfully, somehow I managed to turn it around and proceeded to start one of my best heaters of the year. I want to sincerely thank the posters in this thread who gave my encouragement and support while I was going through the downswing. It really did help keep me on the level and eventually find my way out of the hole. Although it sucked financially I am definitely a better player because of it and I’m much better prepared to deal with a similar bad run in the future.

Thank you to everyone who posted in this thread, I really enjoyed the journey and I hope you follow my 2011 goals thread too. Congratulations to everyone that achieved their goals this year and good luck in 2011.

2011 Goals

I’m going pro this year, well semi-pro I guess but I won’t have much other income.

If everything goes to plan I will be travelling for most of the year and I’m not sure how much volume I will be able to get in so these goalposts may need to be moved:

[ ] 1m hands. I estimate this is around ~100hrs/month at the tables, not sure realistic this is given my plans for the year but we’ll see.
[ ] $50k profit (no rakeback/bonus). This is equivalent to $1m hands of $1/2 @ 2.5bb/100. I hope to play a decent % of hands higher but I’m going to be using very conservative bankroll management and withdrawing often so I expect most hand will be at this level

Good luck on going pro! Looks like you lose as much as me in the blinds(which is terrible). That's the next area I'm focusing on fixing in my game.

are you going to be traveling? or just playing from home?

I'm going to be away from home the whole year. I do plan on trying to spend a decent amount of time at a few locations rather than being on the move constantly which should help with getting hands in.

Yeah I hear you about the blinds it's definitely something I've been working on and I'm pretty sure my win rate the last 50k hands or so is better but it's still one of my main focuses.

How are you focusing on fixing it?

I'm working on trying to be more observant of the other players in the hand and tailoring the line I take rather than taking a "standard line".

- Folding more SBs when good aggressive reg is in BB/opening more SBs when tight/passive is BB

- Calling more vs aggressive stealers that also defend well vs 3bets and either c/r a bunch of different flops or take some variation of donking flop/turn/river both for value and as a bluff.

- 3betting more against agg stealers that don't defend well

Its a work in progress...

Nothing is set in stone yet but the basic plan is to split the year up in to 3 and spend 4 months in Asia/Europe/Americas in that order. At this stage we are looking to leave towards the end of April.

I want to spend a big chunk of the 4 months/region at the same address so I can grind. I'll be looking to get a house in Thailand first if anyone is keen on meeting up or even joining us let me know.

Oh, and some Poker content. 2011.
