Totally agree past performance not a guarantee of future performance. It's for sure not a guarantee that the market just goes up forever over time. That being said, I personally just think that when it comes to choosing our investing strategy it can be very dangerous for the vast majority to make things too complicated. I also just lean towards being pretty skeptical of people doing short term trading. I'm def not saying there's no chance their ev isn't higher than just betting on the market as a whole, but it's obv very hard to quantify that edge and most people are not better off taking that risk. And unfortunately we obv can't just trust the results people have either so it's just a very messy situation. But yeah I for the most part think most will be best off just investing a reasonable amount of their income over time in things with low cost.
Hopefully all of that made sense because I'm at the tail end of a 7 hour session and pretty exhausted. Gl 2019!

Thanks for all the input, you're probably right for the most part. I'm experimenting with some investing strats. Def have almost no interest in day-trading, but feel there is for sure money to be made in medium term macro trend trading.

First week or so of January graph. As you see, it's been pretty swingy. Running terribly, but very happy with the way I'm playing. On track with most of my goals, and particularly happy with taking active breaks during sessions and keeping up with the gym/spin classes on the reg.
Have done a good 4 hours PIO work and then watched a few training videos on the side. Probably about a 50/50 split between passive and active (solve along at home) video study.
Two things...
1. What is the most you have been down and how have you been able to get your roll back?
2. The Vlog A new one... I'm not in Vegas, I'd like to play soon in Vegas... poker does happens in Vegas.... it also happens in Ohio!!!
Open to all feedback!
Variance will swing your way soon buddy, keep it up with the PIO work!
Thanks bro, here's hoping!

Eh 1) I've been pretty well rolled for whatever games I'm playing for a few years now. Last time I ran up a roll, was by playing a bunch of cash and MTTs
2) TBH I'd prefer if you create your own thread for this sort of thing, I'll likely watch it if you do. Just don't want it clogging up my thread. Ta

This week at the tables. Still running pretty garbage tbh in reg v reg spots and coolers. Also noticed a fair bit of auto-pilot creeping in from time to time, so I don't think I played particularly well either. Happy with the volume, and on track to hit my goals there.
Started mixing in MTTs on the side of 4 zooms this week, and ran OK there. Won the Big $82 and got 5th in the $109 Battle Royale thing (lost AA < AJs for massive chiplead and bounty spot 5 handed). So add about $2k onto this week's tally for that.
Have been for 2 x heavy sessions in the gym, as well as a spin class and 7 a sides this week, so feeling really good on the health/fitness front. Apparently yesterday was the Monday where most people cave on their new regimes for the year. I was actually planning on hitting the gym last night, but ended up skipping, so I'll try and stay vigilant about it. Did about my usual 5 hours study this week, so on track for that too.
Played 2 x sessions on my laptop from bed, so mega fail there. It's so fkn hard to pass up on that when it's like -5 outside.

Sorry man. I actually mistakingly posted it in here... sorry!!!
Feel like I ran way below expectation in PFAI spots and range v range coolers for much of the month. But it feels nice to at least close out peaking. There's a huge disparity in ability levels between some of the class of regs at 200z. Some guys are playing very very well, some not so much. Need to do a better job of note taking and tagging effectively if I stick to playing vs this pool. Going to see Rock of Ages tonight with Aimee. Never been to a musical in my life, so let's see how it goes. At least we're going for nice steaks beforehand.
Quick review of the January goals:
1) 45k hands [X] Done 2)30hrs of study [X] Probably managed closer to double this, so very happy here 3) Finish reading Sapiens [X] What a great book this is... 4) Gym 3 x per week [X] Managed 15 gym/workout/sports sessions, so I'll get a pass here 5) Take regular breaks to stretch/go for a walk mid-session [/] Half marks on this one, should probably set an alarm or something in future for consistency 6) Don't play any laptop in bed/on the couch sessions (super guilty of this one in the Winter...) [ ] Large large fail here...
Looks exactly the same as my January - +5bi -5bi +5bi, i think im gonna go nuts if this keeps going. Grats on reaching (almost) all of your goals mate, gotta be proud of yourself. 60h of studying particularly, thats very impressive. Gl next month!
Man that dog is unbelievable, I'm potentially moving to Scotland next year, might have to go for a beer/ meet dog. I'm definitely responsible for at least one of those coolers too, gl in Feb

Yeah it's brutal. Hoping to catch some clean heat next month! Hopefully you decide to keep blogging too.

Def hit me up if that comes to pass.

Times are tough! I did mix some 500z back in this month. Not a lot of hands at all, but won at something ridiculous like 130bb/100h. Decided not to include in the recap as it skews the winrate by quite a bit.

We made it to 100k views, which is pretty cool! Cheers to all the lurkers out there propping up the numbers.
45k hands 30hrs study Tag and take accurate notes vs population 12 gym/class sessions 4 liveplay Skype sweat sessions Start writing again
February has started out in delicious fashion with a nice little uptick carrying over from the end of Jan. Long may that continue! Games this afternoon were the absolute worst I’ve seen the pool since I started playing more 200z.

First week or so of Feb in the books. Very pleased with the results and the way I've been playing in general. The games haven't been hugely great, and volume has been slacking. Obviously it's a super small sample size, but I've added a few branches to my SRP flop game plan, and feel as if the reg population is adjusting pretty poorly to it in general.
Have also spent the past couple of days testing out the RIO software. Not being able to resize tables, or to drag the bet slider is a bit of a pain, but for the most part I really like the software and some of the nuances that they've implemented. Hopefully they add 200nl tables soon!
Outside of poker, I'm still doing pretty well on the exercise front. Have been for 2 heavy gym sessions and a spin class this week, and I have a 90 minute football 7s game tonight. Haven't done any writing yet, but I'm hoping the motivation will hit me soon. Note taking and HH review has been good and mindset wise I feel very good right now.
Yeah sometimes those small adjustments become full on punts.
Think AJcc is totally fine to bet the turn fwiw. Definitely want to continue some betting some flush draws and every club blocker except Kc is going to be somewhat important, so I’d rather just have an additional overcard with better equity against 1pr hands.
Pio disagrees is what I assume ben means. And I would assume a hand like a2cc (or whatever is possible too lazy to scroll) that unblocks strong fds prefers betting over combos like the one you have blocking more of his stronger fds
Yeah I know, just on textures like this where basically any two connected cards have at least a gutter/pair/OESD then the EVs of bet/check the differing FDs are generally super close. I haven’t PIOd this hand yet (too busy with the 6 Nations this weekend) but I’d be surprised if there’s much in it.
I made a very last minute decision to go down and stay with some poker friends in the South of France for most of February. So aside from playing on RIO I didn't really get any volume in for the remainder of the month. Did a bunch of studying down there with the guys though, and felt as if I improved a bunch. Particularly with regards to being more aggressive in a bunch of a areas. My autopilot is definitely to lean passivity in perceived low value spots, so I'm basically trying to rewire my brain to think bet as default and reason out a check, rather than the other way around. It's a work in progress, but I'm very pleased with how I've played this month anyway. I even managed to book a couple of redline winners lmao.
Graph since last update. Probably played about 5k hands on RIO and made about $1.5k there in addition to the above. Looking to get my head down for the rest of the month and get some volume in now.
BU (Hero) shows 6♥ A♥ (a flush, Ace high) (Equity - Pre-Flop: 55%, Flop: 74%, Turn: 91%, River: 100%)
BU (Hero) wins $421.11

In other news, I've started buying Crypto again. Mostly BTC, but also bought up some ADA, XRP, EOS, ETH and XLM at the current discount rates. About 80% BTC, 20% split across the rest. Not saying the bottom is in, but it's almost certainly close. I'm not going AI yet, as a lot of clever people expecting a lengthy accumulation range. But should that turn out not to be the case, then I'd hate to miss out on these prices.
