Whats a dollar goal? Yes I haven't shown much patience thusfar... however I have now found a game I can beat consistantly with relatively low varience due to the high ROI.... I just need to stay at this level for some time now, i think.

Spending hours building BR only to blow it on several occasions is a problem.

Can you honestly say to yourself that you wont do it again?

If you cant then you have a problem

Define what blowing your bankroll is.

losing more than 5% of my total roll in 1 day playing games I shouldn't be playing... if I lose 5% playing the game I am rolled for then that is fine.

From everything you write in here it seems you're a gambler, not a poker player.

This thread could be quoted in a psychology book as a perfect example of gambling addiction. I kinda got an urge to at least try to help in cases like this and did advise seeking professional help like countless other ppl did.
Normally guys in these situations are just lying to others to keep up some kind of positive self-perception though knowing they have a huge problem. Sadly I'm not sure OP is in that category, there's a decent chance he indeed believes he's on a good way to making it in poker. From the answers he gives there seems to be a huge intelligence problem also, not meant as an insult =/

Seriously dude you don't know me, I don't like to blow my own trumpet or brag because this was never meant to become a dick swinging contest. But I am probably in the top 0.1 percentile of intelligence. I did an IQ test recently and got a score of 147. I took my maths GSCE a year early because I was talented at maths and got an A*, concequently I took my A level a year early too and got an A (top grade at the time)...
I wouldn't say I have an intelligence problem mate!

I'm not saying I am a super intelligent genius, but I certainly don't have an intelligence problem.

Yeah, cool story ^^

Let's assume for once this is somewhat true, then you should really be able to recognize your problem. Chances of solving it aren't much related to intelligence since this is more a problem of working on personality, discipline, being supported by friends/family etc.

But if you seriously believe you do not have a gambling problem though it's the most obvious thing in the world and lots of ppl give you the "seek prof help" advice,... yeah, I don't even know how to finish this sentence without making it sound very insulting.

Hey Dink,

I'm not sure what your situation is currently, or if this is an option where you live, but my suggestion would be to pick up a part-time job. This is why:

It seems like your biggest leak is letting your emotions get in the way of your game. You're too focused on short-term results, and you end up losing your mind when you run into inevitable downswings. If you're ahead in a hand 80-20, you're going to lose 20% of the time. You play at a high volume, so this amounts to a helluva lot of bad beats that are going to happen. Nobody is "unlucky". Things just happen.

I've played a lot of micro/low-limit MTTs with huge fields and had some pretty decent success at those levels (sharkscope garp5a - Stars, garp9a FTP). I started winning when I learned how to not throw my computer at the wall whenever I lost a key flip. I started to take a mental note every time I sucked out, so to ease the fuming whenever it happened to me.

Also, I got a job so that I didn't have to rely on destroying huge field MTTs in order to eat dinner. Once the desperation of having to win was gone, my mental game improved incredibly. Eventually I was able to get over bad beats very quickly, and focus on the next hand without just clicking the Ship It button in a wild rage.

Also, a little income on the side will help you graduate from the super-micros quickly. You banned yourself from FTP for two years because you lost such a huge percent of your bankroll in one shot. But if you got a bit of work you could have easily made that cash back in a day or two and play on FTP all you want.

Anyway, that's my 2c. Best of luck on the tables!

It is just a challenge, so have fun with it, cut back the playing, post some hands, think some situations through, and re-evaluate...what BR are you at and what stakes are you playing?

Thanks mate, you described me exactly, although at times I am okay, its just when you get 4,5,6,7 bad beats in a row and I don't mean flips, like dominating hands like AK vs KQ and when I lose 5 times in a row to hands like this it does send me into a wild rage... which should be a 1 in 666 occurance, which seems to occur on a regular basis... but as you say I am probably playing so many bloody hands in a day that these streaks are bound to happen, its how you deal with it that counts... Its like you see Roulette in the casino sometimes same color can come up 15 times in a row even more.. same happens with poker if you play enough hands you will at some point lose 15 flips in a row! scary thought....

Thanks for the advice

Hiya, I had a tough day today actually lost $8, bankroll now $174... I am grinding the 50 cent 180/360 man games, and I am playing around 150 a day..

I think my beginning of my session today I was shoving way too wide and the more I ran bad the wider my shoving range got... towards the end of my session my range was a bit tighter and I believe I played quite nicely, although big hands kept losing.

I'm still not 100% comfortable with my ranges but everyday I feel I am getting there... funnily enough today I was thinking about it more and I seemed to find playing much much harder, the previous days I've pretty much been on autopilot and just used my instinct rather than overthinking it, I think today I was thinking too much and this hampered my progress...

Thanks for the encouragement. The feeling hurts more than losing £150 its the 40 hours grind I put in to gain that, that is what hurts... so yes lesson learnt, don't be a ***** ****** and spunk your bankroll being a tw@t.
