APD.
I asked you to consider trying out Mum Poker recently in a PM.
you had PMed me about a hand that included some non-Mum Poker talk during it.
just wondering, have you given it a shot?
if so, how long did you last?
was it difficult to break the habit?

all I know is that ive convinced the nitty daytime regs in the 2/5 game at
the Bellagio
that I'm a rich guy, (far from the truth),
because
1] I use Mum Poker as a weapon.
2] I play recklessly against them (they are nits).

easy game.

if i'm sitting there dropping E-bombs (equity),
or R-Bombs (range),
then i know my hourly in that game is getting slashed.
there's no doubt in my mind.

is that enough poker talk for ya'll??

I havent even played since then. However I can tell you this. When I am by myself I am generally non poker talk. The times I do talk is when I am sitting next to poker buddy. With that said... I absolutely hate poker talk at the table. I have noticed that when I am playing my best I am entertaining people, not scaring people with odds and equity. So to answer your question no I have not done it since then, but I have done it.

Works for me!
I usually do well not talking poker when in a casino. I struggle more in underground games, where having a friendly persona is important, but I need to draw a line when someone tries to "talk poker" with me.

watch TMWNN.

the first thing he does is to find a friend in San Miguel.

...but he has the sense to pick someone that's not one of his potential targets.

Since most everyone is a potential target, that narrows his options down;
If he can find a way to get paid for your hide,
then you're another target to him.
he'a an equal oppurtunity gun-fighter,
and he's trying to do more than just do well.
his goal is to own it.
to execute flawlessly, ruthlessly, and to then move on,
and leave nothing but a wake of emptiness.
this is what a winning poker player does, too.

In LLS its even more crucial to find every source of profit that you possibly can, than in MS-HS; to leave no stone unturned.
it's
1] because of the rake; it represents a bigger % relative to what you stand to win at LS, and...
2] because you should be the best player at your table,
if youre doing the work on your game, away from the table, that they aren't.

What do you think of Kurosawa's film Yojimbo?
Well: "A Fistfull Of Dollars" (the MWNN spares the innocents) Quote

Kurasawa is the nuts.
Yojimbo is the OG. (original).
It's the same movie;
Even the Heros'
name is the same.

Your opinion on this: Yojimbo > Fistful of Dollars

So if you'd like to focus on poker outside of poker... what is the most +ev thing you do in your life that doesn't involve the cards at all?

Compared to the average poster, how often do you think you press the 'enter' key?

Who do you think would win in a fight btwn TMWNN (calculating / businesslike) and William Munny from "Unforgiven" (wrathful / lucky)?

so, if you have some other suggestions, i would appreciate them.
I will try to expand on how Leone relates to poker in real life.

but... does art imitate real life, or is it the other way around?? does real life imitate art?
It's a chicken and the egg thing...

I'm not sure how interesting I am,
and I certainly don't deserve to be lumped together with the
real poker players that have done wells on 2+2.

In any case, it's a Mum Poker thread, which is a great idea, IMO. (and i think it thereforeit contains a lesson that the live poker scene in general needs desperately, considering all the
'game-ruining poker-nerd chatter' at the tables i've been hearing lately.)

Mum poker has everything to do with poker,
because it has to do with discipline.
It has to do with putting pressure on your opponents in the information war.
It's about training them that they are going to be making the tough decisions.
If you havent tried it, and been able to pull it off, then you don't know how strongly it effects how ppl perceive your image, and how powerful it is.

I'm sure some of you aren't even capable of sitting there all night and not mentioning either a suit, a rank, or a street??
so it's a moot point, in that case.
Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. Sometimes I'm a little slow, but I think I'm now pickin up what you're puttin down. Nothing tilts me more than the "real players" berating the fish. Table change!

Also sorry if I was being a bitch before.

1] By definition, the Original comes first, and there is an argument that Kurasawa is the most influential film maker/ director/ producer of all time, if not the best.

2] Having been a chef by trade, I don't trust anyone, and I prepare all my own meals.
(okay, I did eat at la Cave at the Wynn while in Vegas; special occasion).
I eat zero junk food, and I wouldn't be surprised if I spend twice what some ppl do on food. (paleolithic diet; meat, veggies, fruit). I think it's funny that some ppl will make sure to put the best fuel in their sports car, but be happy to try to run their own body on garbage. because food is so entertaining, sometimes we forget that it is essentially our fuel. It has everything to do with how we perform...
If you think about it, what you eat is the most important investment that you ever make.
you are literally investing in your own performance.

Of course, there are other investments to be made in that market, as well...

I can testify to this. As an on and off again dieter (not diet in the sense lose weight, but diet to be healthier) I always feel better and my thoughts more clear when I am eating right and exercising. I have been on a routine since about December. I skipped a few weeks, but for the most part have been on it. My thought process has been a ton better and overall I just feel good (mood, energy, etc). I don't know why more poker players don't take the time to invest into their bodies. Our body should be considered a tool, just like cash is, and we should be maintaining a healthy diet in order for that tool to function properly.

1) Have u ever ate at "The French Laundry" in Napa. I never have cuz I dont like wearing suit-jackets. If yes, how was your experience?

2) Is Ino Sushi in Japantown the most authentic sushi in the Bay Area? I had the ankimo there and was blown away. Thoughts?

3) Best burger in the BA? My vote would have to be for Joe's Cable Car on Silver.

4) Wheres the best burrito in the BA in your estimation?

1] when i was a foodie, i didnt have time to eat in Napa.
I worked with a guy who was a veteren of the French Laundry; he was a hack, (imo, and everyone else's).
don't always believe the hype.
when i worked at Gary Danko, it was michelin 4 star. now it's one star, and I know Gary has changed nothing (he never did; he kept his same menu from the Ritz Carlton, and Chateau Souverain).
Maybe thats why he lost 3 stars??
It doesnt pay to be an old dog with no new tricks...

2] is that the one with the sushi boats that float by??
If so, it rocks. I like Mokis in the mission/ SF.
awesome saki menu. (despite the fact i don't drink)

3] Marin Sun farms, in Pt. Reyes station. closer to the source, LOL.

4] prolly in someones home? home cooked meals beat any restaurant food, imo, and true 'burritos' are nothing like the california version.
they are small in Mex, you get 3-4 of them, they are deep-fried, and contain meat only.
always thought that "burrito grande" was an oxymoron:
the '-ito' on the end of 'burrito' indicates the diminutive.

>>> 'little donkey'.

1) K. I was thinkin bout droppin $$$ to try that place, but ur response is enough to make me say forget it i think.

2) Nah, no sushi boats. Tiny Japantown spot. Ino-san is the chef, Mrs. Ino-san is the server. Theyre both in their 60s. Check it out imo. The ankimo (monk fish liver) is worth the trip. WIll check out Mokis tho if/when I get the chance.

3) haha. ur probly right. Will have to visit.

4) Agree, but try the truck on Fruitvale & E14th in Oakland. Pretty damn good. Taqueria in Emeryville Public Market is excellent as well.

In my town in Mex, (Todos Santos, near Cabo)
every taco place has a different taco, and is only open certain hours.
(taco is slang for 'pool cue' down there, btw)

-If you want steak, you go to Pilon in the AM.
(pilon means 'baldy', which is a local joke, cuz he has big hair, LOL)
he grills it, and then simmers it in a clay pot on the fire.
desert cows are the tastiest.

-for Chicken, it's afternoons at Mariachi Loco. you may have seen that chicken running around the previous day?

-Pork tacos, and papas rellenas are across from the gas station in the evenings. (apres surf)

-Brain tacos are a late night item by the park. (my favorite).

-I was wondering about the place on the road out of town heading towards La Paz,
they're only open on sunday, and monday mornings.
they only serve Birria, a soup that's supposed to be good for a hang-over. (weekends are designated party days)
LOL.

its hard not to eat well when youre down there.

I remember the wake up call I got when i had been down there for 3-4 months, and was driving my 4X4 Toy back, and stopped for fast food in the Central Valley. ( I was broke; thats why i was heading back,) It made me deathly ill.
spoiled, I guess?
last time I ever ate fast food.

On the outside, mum poker is the classic poker face, extended to the entire body, and maintained through sixth street... Mum poker is stillness.
I have to say that I don't go for this one. At LLNL, I see myself as an entertainer. It is my job to keep the casual rec players entertained. That's what they're there for, and if they have fun and never notice that I'm serious, that is +++EV.

Quote:
On the inside, mum poker is no complaining, no blaming, no regretting. Mum poker is readiness.
Now THIS I 100% get behind. The readiness part I think I'm pretty good at, and I'm getting way better at the no complaining. No regretting, I'm very bad at. I beat myself up a LOT when I make mistakes at the table. I'm getting better at letting it go, and am usually back at my A game within an orbit or two now, but I really need to stop letting one mistake create ANY others.

To me, then, mum poker is more about unemotional poker, and less about unexpressive poker.

I'm totally for livening up a game with mindless, silly banter, if you do it right.

to me Mum poker absolutely allows this,
it's just that you never mention a rank, suit, or street by name.
i've found that vs. the 'know-it-all' crowd, simply never saying any of these words, and therefore not discussing any strat at the table, is enough for them to peg you for having no idea what youre doing, (which is a good thing, unless your'e there trying to prop up your ego).
I'd much prefer them to think i'm an idiot, and fortunately, i'm pretty good at getting them to co-operate.

you can be a total chatterbox, actually, and be utilizing Mum Poker, ironically enough.
just don't talk about poker, or if you do, say something ridiculous.
