The results of the top 1% of 2/5 players dont represent the rest of the winning 2/5 player pool. and fwiw there isnt a big difference between a 10bi downswing and a 20 imo. Also how many hands do the best live crushers in this chat have- lets say an average of 2k a year hours for last 7 years. I know that is high but still. thats about 40 hands an hour, so 8k hands a year. So that means once I play 56k hands I have played as much poker as you guys have??

2000 x 40 = 80,000

Reminds me of 2 years ago. We went skiing in Lake Tahoe at Xmas and then spent 2 nights in SF before heading home. NYE we were looking for a place to eat in Chinatown. Walked by a few places and nothing struck our fancy. Walked by a fairly boring looking place with not a single white face in it--only Chinese families.

Turned to wife and girls and said this is the place. Was phenom

Can I say something? The worse NBA journeyman who gets 10 day contracts so that he can get the privilege of warming up the 12th seat on the bench can be seen as world class. There are literally millions of people playing basketball in the world.

Being the worst NBA player makes you top 350 or something. It's still pretty good. Better than good actually.

As for the guys beating NL500 and NL200 Zoom and beating it, I would also say they are world class. Without knowing anything about that player pool, there can't be more than 100 or so of them. How many players are above them, you know, the Linuses, the Redbarrons and like? 20? 30? I doubt it's a 100.

Pokerstars used to have 200k players at peak hours. It's much less than that now, but mostly due to legislation and market fragmentation. But that's not the worldwide player pool. How many people play poker at least a month? Not sure how to estimate this, but does one million sound reasonable?

I would say that beating live high stakes still puts you in the top 1% of that player pool, maybe even at the top 0.5 or 0.1%.

Why can't that be seen as world class? I mean, I would say that the majority of the posters in this forum, sucky as they may be,probably belong in the top 10% of the worldwide player pool.

I would say this. Instead of arguing over mushy terms like world class, each should offer an estimate of where they fall among differently defined player pools. As in, your skill level places you in this percentile among all people playing poker for money every month, among all people playing for money every week, among people making a living etc.

Yeah I agree.

I think it's important we define where the base of the penis really starts.

this is way too vague and everyone will pull **** out of thin air

also spoiler: just about every poker player thinks theyre way better than they are. You also get influenced by your environment.

It's quite easy to convince yourself you're a god when you play soft live games against morons, you have no perspective. That doesn't mean other people need to buy into your overinflated, unrealistic view of yourself.

You make good points in your other post ill answer later

of course "world class" is going to be pretty subjective, I just think in this case it's not even really close enough to entertain, which is why I laughed.

With all due respect I could find at least a dozen regs better than this guy that I know in some capacity. Are these guys all "world class"? Am I friends with a bunch of world class poker players? It's just kind of weird.

this is a much more realistic argument that top 500z regs could be considered world class. I think we can agree that's a bit of a gray area. I see both sides.

As far as beating "high stakes live" that doesn't really mean anything. For example, 10/20 at the bellagio is going to be a lot different than private games in Los Angeles.

I can't say enough, there's nothing wrong with playing in great games. It's a good thing to have access to. I just don't get the need to pretend to be a complete crusher sicko. Like, just enjoy the money what's the big deal?

Lets say Dan Bilzerian is telling the truth (he's not). He plays HSNL live and wins 1m a year against billionaires. Is he world class? Obviously not.

People who beat 2/5 in Vegas are for sure in top 5%, maybe even 1% of all poker players. Is every winning 2/5 reg world class just because a lot of people play poker?

When you hang past your knee, does the location of the base really matter? Seems like a distinction small guys discuss. NTTAWWT

World class seems like a lot of work. I just have a bit of class and I'm pretty happy with that.

Terms are what we make of them. What's clear and indisputable is that Both your friends and winning 2/5 players are top 1% players in the world and something between top-5-10% among those who show some profit.

The lesson for me is that in order to make really good money in poker you need to be top 0.1% or something.

Right I tend to agree with that.

The problem is do you define top 1% as "world class"?

I think it's insane to describe winning 2/5 regs as world class. This is the point of contention.

In order to make good money from poker you need to play against people weaker than you for lots of money. There's many ways to accomplish that, the clear 2 -

1. get really ****ing good and play legit high stakes in tough environments (world class)

2. have access to fish, usually in live games or on apps.

2 is a lot easier than 1

is world class better or worse than upper class?

top 1% is a joke though if we are including everyone who’s played a hand of poker for money in their lifetime?

I had a guy tell me he’d rather be dealt J10s over JJs the other day preflop

he had 300BBs~ in front of him.
