Wasn't a surprise to see a Low clip in my YouTube feed over lunch (that I clicked on and listened to a couple of Tiny Desk songs). Was quite a shock when right afterwards I then clicked on Pitchfork to get my daily music news and found that Mimi Parker had passed away.

Wasn't there a Low fan or two in here? Slim I'm guessing, although he's MIA lately. I did a deep dive on them a ~year or so ago and half a dozen of their songs ended up on the iPod. Still remember hearing their "Over the Ocean" for the first time (late 90s?) and instantly falling in love with that.

Shout out to CO for having their priorities straight by voting to decriminalize hallucinogens like shrooms, dmt, and mescaline while simultaneously voting to restrict wine sales in grocery stores.

Restrictions/prohibitions create black markets.

"Hey buddy! Wanna buy some wine? I got straight Napa."

Technically, it was "continue to restrict" but point stands. Propping up the local liqour stores and all.

yeah, Aus doesn't allow alcohol sales in supermarkets here. Felt weird going back to Europe last month and seeing the alcohol aisle

I'm used to beer, wine and liquor available in grocery stores and quickie marts/gas stations and Walmart, CostCo (!!), etc, just not between 0200-0600.

Had to give a lecture on the first Gulf War to a few hundred military grad students today. Two iterations, once for the morning classes and once for the afternoon.

In the morning iteration, the students were laughing at all of my dad jokes and were super into it. With the practice and the fact that it wasn't first thing in the morning, I figured the next go would be even better. My timing was on, and I was GTG, but the crowd, not so much. I think they got the info well, but as an entertainer, I went over like the proverbial lead balloon. Weird how different two crowds can be.

Yeah the real killer in Australia is not the absence of booze in supermarkets, since they inevitably have a re-branded bottle shop next door, but rather that we pay about x2.5 what you do for spirits.

edit

e.g. 700ml bottle of Smirnoff red is 42 AUD = 28 USD at current exchange rates.

Good, I am getting bored of our extremely rational society in desperate need of distortions.

I voted "NO: to decline to extend the override" because it reminded me of the Reno 911 episode where they fixed the election but misread the initiative.

Lot's of people seem to be trusting the late ballots nowadays.

I looked at the price of a 750ml bottle of Bulleit Rye (my pandemic goto) at the CVS (Pharmacy +, but no tobacco). $28 on sale. BevMo and Total Wine (supermarket sized liquor stores) have it for about $26.

I'm pretty sure I got the 1.75l bottle at CostCo for ~$40. Same as Total Wine, actually. BevMo doesn't list the 1.75l bottle.

Arizona may be the laughingstock of the US, but there are some benefits to living here. 360+ days of riding weather, cheap and readily available booze (rec weed, too!), and skin cancer.

I think this is available relatively recently here, retails for just under USD 50 for a 750ml. A friend recommended it, makes a nice old fashioned IMO.

This is slightly poker related so apologies if it’s against the rules but I flopped a royal today and won the 500 high hand jackpot.

The hilarious part was I had KT next hand and got it in against AJ on a AQJxtt board 1k (playing deep stacked 2/5) and he spiked an A on the river.

Still booked a 1750 win overall, I was punishing everyone in pots I raised and took down so many with no fight. And I made a few astute call downs against the same (bad) opponent in big pots.

Happy Armistice Day or whatever they're calling it.

Serious thanks to all who served so I don't have to.

The counting we do in AZ is noting that Total Wine is an extra $2+ for anything that you could have bought at Frys/Kroger.

I was threatened to be thrown out be security by not one but two different people at a Verizon store today.

Beat, brag or variance?

In case you’re wondering, I believe I’m very much in the right and ultimately got everything sorted when I called the customer retention line, albeit with a time investment of another hour.

you'd have won a far bigger jackpot at our room. starts at 10k and has gotten up to 110k. I haven't played for a month, so werebeer can tell you what it currently is
