I’d bet he would’ve helped her regardless of how she treated him

SPC decided to help another dude fix his flat early on in the event. Because of this he stuck with her and helped her get through being sick and pushing on. A nail went through her rim on mile 205 and again he helped her fix it. SHes now at mile 215 and only 1 hr behind her goal time which is ridiculous all things considered. She most likely would not have made it this far had she not decided to stop and help him out creating that friendship.
Wow that's a great update to read. I was worried that she would struggle since she might have only brought enough water for the planned 3 hours worth of intense heat. Are there stations or something she can go to for water if she is stuck out there longer than expected?

Very unlikely. I'm guessing it's more of a warrior ethos. Even if they knew nothing about each other beforehand (or if they actively disliked each other even) there's going to be a certain amount of respect between everyone who volunteers to go through this.

So you’re agreeing with me that squids initial argument is incorrect. He would’ve helped her out regardless. You think it’s sportsman ship, I think it’s a number of things including and probably most influenced by pretty privilege

You think I’m wrong?

Assuming it’s about sportsmanship then did this guy stop and help everyone that had an issue? How about anyone else?

BGP - these events are self supported so when they are designed they try to make 24hr stops available that not too spaced out. HOWEVER, cuz they decided to start 12hrs early there was a gap in services for a 37 mile stretch due to services that would have been open had they done a normal start but were now closed. So she decided to play it safe and wear a back pack containing an extra 2 liters in addition to her 2 jumbo bottles on her bike.

had she not stopped to help they would not have been riding together. I think she would have been tough to spot at 1am on a side country road while vomiting in the ditch and him stopping would have been highly unlikely

It’s also not a topic that needs to be drilled into someone for hours and hours. Most people are bright enough that you teach them how general gameplay works and after a few mock orbits, they understand. Hand rankings I would write on a piece of paper, after like an hour of play, they’ll probably know sets and lower, flushes/straights will probably get reversed for a little bit, but eventually they would get all of it. Then you move to actual topics, like preflop hand selection.

when I teach my kids games, we just play them and I correct them as we go and they seem to pick it up after a short period of time. I would just do the same. Just deal out your hand and their hand, their hand face up and help them with what to do. Maybe deal a few fake people’s hands in, so it’s not HU
In contrast Walking family game night starts with a 15 minute lecture over a bare table. Sr tried to explain bridge to people that had never played hearts and talked as far as scoring doubled contracts before a single card was dealt.

That's awesome.

And I firmly believe in doing good for others even though I seem to only get negative karma in return.

SPC finished. The last 30 miles were done via sheer will. Turns out hurling yer guts out in the middle of a 250 mile event (spoda b 240 but was 10 miles longer) really puts you in rough shape from both a hydration and a caloric standpoint. She was severely under hydrated which caused a sticky flem buildup. So she ended up barfing a small amt. She then goes to squirt a bunch o gatorade in her cheek to drink and accidently inhales it resulting in a coughing fit followed immediately by a barfing fit. This happened around mile 50 and the upset stomach lasted 4 hours.

So by the time mile 220 comes she is shot and any uphill grade is so brutal she can only pedal 8 mph. She ended up finishing in a shade under 23 hours (I was wrong earlier max time is 30 hrs). Her goal was 20 and considering she lost 1.5 hrs to fixing flats it is a sick accomplishment imo. Shes obviously exhausted but also elated. They were a great extremely well seasoned crew who took her under their wings and they now have a lifetime bond. She is more geared up than ever and has added some longer events to her fall schedule

Huge congrats to her, even though that sounds absolutely awful.

I hope she feels better soon, and I'm very stoked to hear about the community connection. Dafuq on extra 10 miles just for SnGs.

And we need to make ditch nap into a poker term.

Maybe when you play an hour of 3/6 so you can rathole your nl profit?

+1

Congratulations SPC on finishing. Amazing accomplishment.

Although I agree with Squid you could not have paid me enough even when I was young to do anything like that.

I think ditch nap in terms of poker happens when u run a really silly bluff 4 all yer chips and get picked off and got no more.

eg: Bro I was in the sickest game, bunch of fish and shitregs. So this one moran who is playing waay too many hands opens. Again. Theres some callers and I look down at napkins and have to 3 ball his ass cuz I have the biggest penis in the poker room. He of course clicks it back at me which is total BS so I stick it in his face. He taaank calls and the slowrolls KK on an AQJ board. Im like WTF - so Im tapped and hafta take a ditch nap till I can get my mom to come in and give me a ride home. Standard.

Winner! Prolly should add that you don't have a room because you were planning to play all night.
