I lolled. There was nothing wrong with the joke. Squid just didn't want that screenshot out there potentially trainwrecking an old friend.

I don't have time for the video but is the point that the narrator actually thought those not very Mediterranean looking folks were actual Greeks?

No. Dude just showing off the times he "caught" crews in action, even though on many occasions he apparently didn't back them off because he put the pieces together after the fact.

On a different note, I hate moving with a passion.

I'm glad some of your teammates got paid, but wish you did too. I can't believe people do this in foreign countries if this is common.

I always thought the Alec Baldwin scene in The Cooler was a gross exaggeration of what really happens.

I don’t get the hate for moving.

Buy 20$ worth of bubble wrap and boxes from Home Depot.

Take 1-4 hours to put your **** in the boxes.

Rent a uhual truck.

Done

Good thing you picked a career where that rarely happens.

The trick is to never go anywhere in life.

Sounds good. If you're moving out of a college apartment. At my stage in life, we have 27,000 pounds of household goods.

Yeah. Just unlucky that lightning struck. They say it never strikes in the same place twice, but it does seem to follow me from place to place.

Moving should be seen as an opportunity to reduce the "household goods" (i.e., clutter).

Heaven knows I try...

Wife is finally starting to come around in principle, but she still wants to take everything out and pet it before she donates it to Goodwill, and that takes forever, so we only get a few boxes to go away each move.

Well, it's a good thing you move a lot then!

I should probably move. Even given my relatively simple life (by USA#n standards, anyway), I've got some clutter.

One hour before the packers were supposed to arrive, the company called and told me they'd pushed back until after lunch. I hope they get us out of here on time...

Does the military still pay you by lb when you move?

They pay your body weight in silver like Russ Hamilton got for winning the main event?

You get paid by the lb in addition to a number of other metrics

If I did it myself, the military would pay me 85% of what it costs them to contract it to a moving company. I did that once. Never again. It was bad enough with a 2br/1000-ish square foot house worth of stuff. Now? Forget it.

Just before Covid, the wife had been doing this thing once every few months where she invites a bunch of friends over, they all bring stuff they no longer need/want (clothes, whatever, etc.), then they all look over each others stuff to see if they want anything, and the rest of it goes to Value Village.

I swear we end up having more stuff after each of these events.

ETA: Although I'm just as guilty. Was making room in my filing cabinet by packing away a few years worth of older tax stuff into a trunk in the crawl space. The trunk was getting pretty full so I had to make room by getting rid of some stuff in it. Got rid of like 3 telephones (ones with cords to the receivers) and a couple of answering machines. I have no idea why I thought it would be a good idea to keep those around.

Yeah, sorry man. Tweeked mine a week ago. Babied it through Sunday, but yesterday I had to prep for the move (take down everything from walls, disassemble wife's dance floor, move stuff not to be packed to safe storage, etc.) and now the back pain is back with a vengeance.

Among the thing I found when cleaning out the house I grew up in a couple years ago was the old kitchen wall phone. Probably quit working in 1980s, but it needed to be kept around.

Also one of those date stampers with the little rubber belts to change the m/d/y. Newest year was 1999. Still in the cardboard/plastic display.

Sigh. Since cleaning out a few of my parent's era houses, I've become pretty good at anti-clutter, though not great.

So long as the clutter isn't taking up room and is just buried in the crawl space / garage / shed and we still have room for the stuff we actually use, I can handle it. But I can't imagine actually going thru a move at this point with it.

Packers still not here, and no word from moving company, an hour after the new time I was given this morning, which was 4 hours after the original time I was given. Yes, I'm getting rather antsy. Thanks for asking.

I also moved a few days ago. It wasn't terrible considering we hired movers, which I'll probably never not do again. It was still a decent amount of work getting everything unpacked and whatnot but if I learned anything it was that even with relatively fewer things than most American households I still want to pare down my possessions a bit on top of already donating a few trunkloads of stuff.

Something I low-key daydream about is getting to the point where I rent furnished places and can move just by putting all my stuff in my car and driving away.

Ah, I get it. "Clutter" is what you're burying in the crawl space.

Going to find the Panama Canal too?

Is there any recourse? "I'm going to start reducing payment by $100 for every hour they're late." sort of thing? It probably will work out in the end, but the stress during the event always sucks.
