It's much better when you shoot moving targets.

Just to be clear: I recommend a Ruger only if it fires the .22 long rifle round. I'm not sure the one Ace linked fires the long round, because the ones that do are typically designated with "LR." TBH, the Ruger I remember from my younger days looked a lot like the beretta in the pix Ace posted.

So my recommendation for target shooting would be:

1. Ruger .22LR

2. Any other .22LR

3. Any non-.22LR

Yeah I've fired about 50 rounds with the Ruger .22LR. It's a fun target shooter.

Sigh 3bet jam 88 in sb bb wakes up with tens marv

It's funny that you brought up guns today. Yesterday, I was sitting around wishing I could justify buying a .45.

What's the difference between LR and non LR?
12-29-2012 , 08:38 PM
The .22LR is a rimfire bullet designed to be fired from a rifle. It's maybe 50% longer than the .22 short round, which gives it greater ballistic stability, and more accuracy at longer ranges, which is what you want for target shooting.

More importantly, though, the .22 pistols designed to fire the .22LR are purpose built target shooting pistols, so they have longer barrels (longer barrel = greater accuracy at greater ranges).

The pistols firing the .22 short round are not target pistols. They're mainly just used by people who want to practice a lot, because the bullets are cheap and relatively quiet as compared to other pistol ammunition.

I saw a pretty cool smith and wesson .40 that was pretty cheap.
Probably was my favorite so far.

Was it a M&P?

That'd be my guess, since it looks pretty cool.

I just saw a S&W .40 sigma at Gander Mountain for $359. That's 1/3 of the price of a .45. Gun prices are weird.

I succeeded in getting to Minneapolis safely. Tbh I own an assault rifle but I never shoot it.

Gap obviously. 11t seems like a Gap guy to me.

Don't think it was a M&P, can't remember though. It was 320ish though used.

If you can get a gently used MP for $320 ship it.

If you want a "real" bullet though get 9mm. .40 and .45 is expensive ammo. If you are only shooting for fun go .22 all day.

Still haven't been on the slopes. I am getting old, smh.

Yep. If all I ever planned to do was go to the range and plink paper targets, I'd buy a non-LR .22.

If I intended to be serious about target shooting, I'd buy a .22 LR.

Anything bigger is for self-defense or a waste of money.
12-29-2012 , 10:35 PM
But I'm not a fan of 9mm for self defense as a "real bullet." the ballistic studies all agree that .45 >>>>>>>>>>>> 9mm, .38, .40. The 9 is just a fast .38, after all.

Sign of run bad? Arrived three minutes late to eat at diamond club. Dinner now rolls and ice cream.

Meh, find something you're comfortable with that's bigger than a .22, practice a lot and you'll be fine with any of those.

I had a friend who carried the Ruger .22 LR as a self defense weapon. When people criticized its "stopping power," he'd shrug and say "I can put 3 rounds in your right eye at 25 yards in about 1 second."

, gun control = hitting your target, so he had a point.

For sure
