I don't waste time.

They always ask if I want the interstate or the local roads.

I say "which ever is cheaper".

It's normally like $15. I dunno.
05-12-2014 , 11:05 PM
Yeah thats fine. Like you said, the key is to say cheaper, not faster. Interstate is "faster" but it'll be like over $30

Here's what you do:

Don't say anything to the cab driver.

See what he does. If he takes the long way ($30+), you wait for him to get to your hotel.

The law prohibits taxi drivers from long-hauling you unless you specifically request that route. Take down his cab number. It's in the front passenger seat. Then say you aren't paying him a cent, and threaten to call the taxi cab authority and report him. If you do, they automatically eat the bill, and get a suspension. So they should let you go. That'll teach them not to **** with you.
05-12-2014 , 11:58 PM
That must be a new thing.

Afaik they've been long hauling for ages.

People don't do google maps on your phone? I use it in the city to avoid this and let them know I'm tracking it on my phone, haven't encountered much of an issue here, but I've heard it's an issue in Vegas.

You don't even have to do that. Get your cab number, driver name, time of cab drive, pick up and drop off. Call the cab company and they will come to your hotel with a refund. If the cab driver didn't take the route that is the most cost efficient they will know.

Cheap shot imo

And, somehow both of these methods are easier than just telling the driver to take the cheapest way?

I changed your name once more. Wayyyy better this time. It stays.

Lol at asking them to take the cheapest way. They're in the business of angle shooting.

Fwiw, there is a very quick back way to get to Harrahs. I can't remember the road, but Ill look it up. If they dont take you this way they are ripping you off.
05-13-2014 , 01:50 AM
I just say take me the quickest way. I know the difference between a long haul "drive around" versus the most direct route in Vegas, but to tell the truth I don't really give a **** if there is a $10 difference. If that makes a difference to my bottom line for the trip it has been a very bad trip.

I agree, and I generally tip cabbies well for good, or even average service.

The angleshooting scumbags deserve to get punished though. They screw it up for the honest drivers.

Asking for the quickest way is asking to get angle shot.

"Sir, the traffic is a little heavy this afternoon, the highway is the quickest."

$35 instead of $15.

I don't mind paying for good service, but getting lied to pisses me off.

Screw the wailist imo.

I'm starting a new table with Snowball. Let's see how quickly everyone wants to table change.

...I'm getting in at 8:20 and I assume since you're getting the room keys, I should just wait?

I'd split the cab fare straight up though, probably not pre-gaming myself.
