This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.
Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?
Many of those free Norton, Mcaffee, Comodo, Zonealarm, etc, 'internet security' bundles will not work well with holdem manager.
Please do the following steps, so we can get your computer to a state that we know will work with Holdem Manager:
1) Uninstall any 3rd party security software bundles.
2) Reboot your computer
3) Please install the latest version:
http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/HmBetaUpdate.exe
4) Enable Windows Firewall's recommended settings through your Control Panel, turn off Windows Defender, and add firewall exceptions for HM and SQL -
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...ender+Problems
5) Install Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus/malware protection and update it -
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
Make sure windows is fully updated until 'No New Important Updates are Found' (this may require multiple restarts), including Internet Explorer 9 (even if you use a different web browser) and change your Windows Control Panel > Regional Settings Format to English (USA).
The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services > secondary logon > right-click > start AND right-click > properties > startup type: automatic.
First try to reboot.
If no help, try this:
Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service
Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service
*If UAC is enabled you have to Right-Click > Run As Administrator when you Start/Stop the service.
If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.
Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily -
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...ender+Problems
Please try following these FAQs, step by step:
1)
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...rt+PostgreSQL+
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder -
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...g+Old+Database
3)
http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8261
If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions
1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Use our combo installer to reinstall PostgreSQL. Make sure you un-check Holdem Manager during installation.
http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloa...ager_Setup.exe
If that installer fails to install PostgreSQL, please reinstall PostgreSQL using the following instructions:
1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator
net user postgres /delete
4) reboot.
5) Install PostgreSQL 8.3.9 from this link -
http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloa...3.9-v1.0.7.exe
Install it to a new path such as C:\PostgreSQL\8.3 instead of the default installation path.
If your windows user name has any unique 'cyrillic characters' you will need to create a new windows user and install postgresql under that user. Then you can delete the windows user once it is working.
Create a new windows user in the Control Panel > User Accounts. Make sure it is an Administrator account and name it 'temporary'.
Log in to the new 'temporary' windows user account, and install postgresql.

That 'fix my stats' option is for sites that don't have preferred seating options. It will cause the hero stats to show in the spot (top left corner) on every table, regardless of where you are seated.
What site? Some sites are different than others, but in short:
Configure your pokerclient preferred seating and seating preferences in HM accordingly.
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...ferred+Seating
1) Open one Table, play at least one hand.
2) Move the stats with the right mouse key to the correct positions.
3) Table manager -> File -> Save positions
4) Now you can open further tables but you will always have to play at least one hand for the stats to be moved to the correct positions.

The same code can be used on 2 pc's at once and can be reset as often as needed.
Please try using our site to register your current/new license. If your code isn't there already you can upload it manually and then reset the code whenever necessary.
https://www.holdemmanager.com/store/login.php
To get your current license from your running installation of HEM: Help > Show Serial Number
If you have lost the code entirely you will need to ask our sales team to search the archives. Please email your details/questions to
sales@holdemmanager.com.
If you’re doing a clean reinstall or moving HM to a new computer you should consider the following.
We have a backup and restore feature within Holdem Manager that makes it easy for you to backup all your settings, hand histories and files.
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...up+%26+Restore
This is a new feature and there are some compatibility issues with it so if you have any problems you can do this manually by following the instructions below:
Export and Import your Hand Histories and/or backup and restore your database
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...6+Export+Hands
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...store+Database
Export Your Notes
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/notes-02.jpg
Export Your Bonuses and Rakeback – Options > Rakeback & Bonuses
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/...bonuses-01.jpg
Export any tourney summaries by selecting all your tournaments in the Data View Sub-Tab of the Tourney > Results Menu and choose Export Tourney Results and summaries
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/...ta-view-01.jpg
See this FAQ
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...ation+Benefits on how to reset your code
And finally
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...g+Preferences+
If you play a site like stars/ftp you can email their support and ask for all your old hand histories and tourney histories/results.
All original hands that are auto-imported get moved to an archive for performance reasons. Your \HMArchive is likely not in your \Holdem Manager directory. We normally suggest you use C:\HMArchive, but you may have put it anywhere.
To verify the location: Options > Configure Auto Import Folders > Edit > Archive Folder: ___________________
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...Import+Folders
The archive should be organized by \Month\DayOfMonth (example: D:\HMArchive\2009\07\31).

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
That is all the security I have on both of my personal computers (that are online 24/7) for the past 18 months.
AVG Free AntiVirus or Avira Free Antivirus are good options, but their 'internet security' bundles/suites are not.
If you feel the need to pay for security I would suggest ESET NOD or Kaspersky.
Please update to the latest version -
http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate.exe
If none of that helps, I would suggest a clean reinstall:
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...o+Uninstaller+
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...g+Preferences+
1) Export any custom HUD configs individually, make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files. If you have custom filters/reports/stats, just copy the entire \holdem manager folder before uninstalling.
2) Uninstall HM with
www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep setting. You do not need to uninstall PostgreSQL.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM:
http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloa...ager_Setup.exe. You should un-check the PostgreSQL Option when running the combo installer.
6) Test if it for a while and see if it works
If you have problems with any of the steps above, or the problems persist after following my instructions, Please email
support@holdemmanager.com, with a link to this thread, and your forum name, so we can schedule a Teamviewer session. Download the Teamviewer Quick Support Module -
http://www.holdemmanager.com/teamviewer. Please let us know what time zone you are in and what time/days are convenient for you.

There's no HM in my All Programs or the windows uninstaller program so I couldn't uninstall it properly. I ended up deleting the folder and tried installing the latest beta but that didn't work either. Any ideas?
Download the full installer and run it again. It will over-write all/every file, so if you created any custom huds, etc, make sure you export them or back them up first. Once you have ran the full installer again it should appear in the programs list. At that point, if you still receive the cards0 error:
