yeah, one of the biggest themes in the show is definitely hypocrisy. rust rants about religious hypocrisy and is desperate to believe he has higher moral standards than everyone around him (while struggling with drinking, perpetually unable to hold down a r/s, can't avoid pulling the trigger on maggie), marty rants about family, gets violently angry at the thought of people mistreating young girls (while destroying his marriage via mistreating young girls).
i don't think it matters that marty gave them a "choice". he wanted to beat them, it wasn't accidental that they put him beating them in the same ep he bangs a teen.
