We knew MM and WH weren't getting killed during that, and the only thing we had a chance of losing in BrBa's was maybe an arm or something when Jesse was underneath the train as it started moving.

Technically, I don't even think it's a contest.

Regarding Season 2 director - what would you think about Lars von Trier? He's done great things with Kingdom.

I'd like to see John Ford or Sam Peckinpah.

I doubt he'd do it but Andrew Dominik would kill this aesthetic.

Man has there ever been a better first hour of a television show?

Didn't a character in an earlier episode imply that the detectives interviewed WH prior to interviewing MM? Because in this episode it was stated that they interviewed MM first.

Look at The dates in The recordings in episode 1. Chole was first.

Lot of hurdles there. He doesn't fly, so he couldn't shoot in the U.S. And I don't think I could see him doing TV at this point in his career, and if he did, I doubt he would unless he was showrunner and writer as well.

edit: ^^^ good call on MacLaren

Directors def. more important than actors for season 2. It's too bad John Hillcoat has regressed since The Proposition. The tone of that movie seems to be a good match for the writing here.

All the more likely given the likely involvement of higher up state officials in whatever bad stuff is going down with the Yellow King. It is in their best interest to let LeDoux take the blame for the killing. Case closed, detectives are heroes, nothing more to see here. Everyone move along.

why are they getting new producers/directors each season? i can understand the cast but you would think the makers would want to keep going and cash in

Good chance we see at least one of the main detectives be a female/minority next season. I nominate Avon and Kima.

God I really hope that Arronofsky's HBO deal isn't for a season of True Detective. Although he'd only be ruining one season so maybe that's better than a whole series? idk.

He could still come by boat, and if the season would be located in Alaska they could shoot in Scandinavia... your other points are definitely valid though. But maybe after a few seasons, when the show has gotten a huge profile, yet also had 1-2 weaker season already they might say "**** it, let's put the mad Dane on this!"
