fun fact, raw eggs aren't inherently dangerous. in fact, padma has been known to eat them many times on the show as part of a steak tartare!
Yes, I attribute it to pressure to some degree, but like many things being a good chef involves a lot of performance under pressure. You get in the weeds you have to make good decisions and get yourself out. You get an important critic in the restaurant everything has to come out just so. Your food supplier runs out of a main ingredient or gives you a bad batch...the list goes on.
Everybody is going to have an off day or fail to hit the mark on certain challenges but three chefs failing that hard on something as simple as an omelet is more than just folding under pressure. To me it shows a lack of completeness in those competitors. Which is fine, I'm sure they can run very decent restaurants where you'd enjoy your meal most of the time but it just doesn't reflect well on the competition. Those were amateur mistakes. It makes me wonder if 90% of the cast would've messed that up if that was the straight up elimination challenge? Probably not I know, but had those three chefs really distinguished themselves as being a cut below up to that point? I don't think I had that sense.
And yes I shouldn't have said
ridden with salmonella, but raw pasteurized eggs do increase the risk of salmonella poisoning albeit unlikely.
