Great ep. Definitely has me excited for rest of season. Will miss him as I really enjoyed the character ALOT but it will keep the rest of the season fresh.

I think Kendall comes out on top now.

I think Roman wins. And With Gerri by his side.

Tom is sh*t out of luck no matter what happens.

yeah, the phone tag stuff felt like an eternity and it seemed ad-libbed in a bad way with how repetitive it was. a bit of that is cool to capture how stunned and panicked everyone is, but i feel like it could have sharper overall. the goat talk i don't get (save for how ppl do this about something like every 2 weeks), but maybe i'll like it better on rewatch. a lot of it was great though, yeah

That’s how it really happens. And it’s amazing that I didn’t realize how few TV and movies actually portray death realistically.

Damn. I don’t even like these people and I was tearing up for them.
It’s only been a few hours but I haven’t stopped thinking about this ep since. I’m leaning more towards this than I was earlier. I was already 100% with the acting and directing but only like 80% with the writing. I’m a lot closer to 100% with that now.

I keep thinking how casually it started with Tom’s phone call. And by that I mean to Shiv but she didn’t answer. They did in such a way that I was really thinking that it was their dad ****ing with them until you caught a glimpse of Logan on the floor. Even when we see Tom’s call to Roman, the actors in the background aren’t panicking. It didn’t even occur to me that it might be true for a bit. Rewatching that scene later and you do see the concern on their faces.

I remember being blown away with how Terriers (RIP) showed the death of a major character towards the end and that it was so subtle and casual and that made it so much more impactful.

I love that decision, I thought this season was really dragging with the same old logan vs the kids stuff or figuring out which 1 would go over to him (appeared to be Roman), it just was at the end of the line. They're trying to buy the CNN equivalent because they have nothing to do or block the Madsen sale for an extra 10% or whatever, it just felt so low stakes. Now they're thrust into a real high stakes world of how to navigate the death of the man their entire lives have orbited around.

This was perfect timing to have Logan pass and reset the show a bit with how the rest of the season will work. They got everything they could out of that character as well each kids individual relation to him.

Show can go in so many different directions now, almost has a blank canvas to explore so many different avenues. Awesome to see one of the pantheon level shows kill a main character with so much story left to tell. Obviously many of those types of shows just couldn't survive without the lead but I really did think it was time.

The Euphoria episode where Rue was running away the entire episode, Pine Barrens from The Sopranos, The Battle of the bastards and the battle of the wall in Got. Was trying to think of episodes that rivaled what I just watched on Succession and those are the only ones I could think of that were even close. That episode was one of the greatest episodes of TV I've ever watched.

Pretty much a perfect way for him to go. On a private luxury plane off to chase money surrounded by sycophants rather than with his family at his eldest son's wedding.

Just phenomenal acting and writing for the whole episode of course, but especially when the kids were all saying their last words to him on the phone.

Great entries. Also, the carjacking/kidnapping episode of Six Feet Under, along with the series finale.

If anyone missed it, there was a piece after this episode about the making of it, with interviews by the cast and creator. Really cool that they tried to do one long take as if it was a play, and that a ton of footage from that take made it into the final cut.

While I would say that I really appreciated this episode for its writing, acting, etc. I didn't find myself that emotionally moved by it, and I think it's because of what I'd always suspected... that these characters are entertaining but none of them are truly likable or relatable and so I don't feel emotionally invested in any of them.

Yeah I found it very frustrating to watch - which was exactly the point. All the $ in the world couldn’t save him.

Kendall’s ask for a call with the world’s best heart doctor; the world’s foremost expert on air travel medicine within the next 2 mins was LOL. Then he can’t even speak with the pilot.

Yeah, my reaction as well. I can get wrecked by an episode of TV - it happened a couple of times recently during The Last of Us - but I was mostly unmoved here.

However, as a piece of art it was really well done. I just associate the really great episodes of TV with how much I'll want to rewatch them over time. It was good. It was just so momentous within the context of the series that I immediately started reviewing it through the lens of whether it was some GOAT-level stuff.

no action but best show yet

acting was superb, real genuine emotions and output

can't believe how brave they were to close out an era like that off camera

feel like an entirely new show is about to begin

I’m curious as to how it’s going to play in Connor’s presidential campaign that he shrugged and proceeded with the wedding.

Interesting picks since they contain way more action. Id put the episode up there with omars death in the wire, murder-suicide from shane in the shield and various episodes of the breaking bad universe.

At this point it looks like gregg will have damaging material on tom who managed to weasel his way back into the inner sanctum with shiv. This plotline turned out to be a nothing burger way back in the whistleblower interview with ken, so its gonna be roman after all i spose...presidential race coming up and there were clips about weedsguy fascist so i suspect between knowing the potential buyer and the fasco candidate he will leverage power very well in the madness that will ensue after logans death.

e: which could mean the rest of the series goes into politics with connor becoming fascos vice, shiv going back to bernie and kendell selfdestructing for any given reasen^^

Episode reminded me of Six Feet Under in the way it captured the randomness and banality of death, and the shocked out-of-body feeling of learning of the unexpected death of a loved one. Incredibly well done and the acting was amazing as usual.

For whatever reason I always feel the worst for Roman. He always felt like the one who worshiped his father the most even though he was often the most mistreated. Feels like that last voicemail he left for his father will haunt him. Rough that the last words his father likely heard from one of his children were "are you a c**t?"

Interesting theory about Kerry giving Logan a blow job in the bathroom when his heart stopped. I'm on the fence about it and I doubt it will come up in future episodes either way. It does kind of make more sense out of how strange Kerry was acting and how weird everyone was being towards her on the plane.

Also gotta give props to Alan Ruck who is managing to make me feel bad for a right-wing spoiled rich dolt. His reflexive "oh man... he never even liked me" upon hearing of Logan's death was like a gut punch.

I thought it was a 9.5/10 episode. I second what's already been written in this thread many times about how most of it was really well done. Felt real, the emotions felt raw and real, and it was genius that they had us thinking it's a con / he's actually not dying until the very last second.

The only reason why I didn't think it was a GOAT tier masterpiece is the context of this season. I don't know if this makes sense, but the first two eps have been really subpar and downright lazy in writing and direction. Eps 1&2 of the season should've been just one ep, if even that. Because the pacing was already so lazy, I also spent the first 3rd of the ep annoyed at how pointless the show's main storylines feel nowadays, it all felt so low stakes. They rectified that in a brilliant way, yes, but I think it would've been a notch more amazing if we had this happen in the middle of the GOAT tier run of S2/S3 episodes.

I'm also annoyed by the constant **** **** ****ity ****aroo ****adilly language of the kids. It feels forced, like the writers are trying to be too cool for school the only word they can think of is "****".

I don't think I'm doing a great job explaining my stance. Either way, that was fantastic. Excited to see what the final episodes bring!

Great episode. Worst part about it all is we don't get any more Brian Cox.

The foul ball in Yankee Stadium line by Tom had me absolutely howling.

agree with all your post and also agree with this that it's way overdone

but you gotta recall that these are people who literally can't feel embarrassed or shame, they think everything they say or do is fine and that gives them the leeway to just say whatever and not worry about sounding stupid

My initial reaction was that they were faking his death to get a rise out of the children and surely he couldn't die (and they didn't exactly have too many close-ups of his body) but once they did it was obvious this was no fake death.

As for who comes out on top I think Roman is too obvious. I think the hints are that it will be Kendall - made Shiv give the statement which is what someone in power would do to stay out of the spotlight and make someone else do it. When he got on the phone outside to the plane he was the one trying to talk with the pilot and trying to take control to keep him alive.

I don't see how it can be Kendall unless a lot of other people just let that happen. Roman, Shiv, Logan's henchman, and an unknown number of other people know about the waiter. That's a lot of leverage.

kind of surprised ppl think any of our main characters are going to "win" the show, an everyone loses thing seems way more likely. main reason that might not happen is bc of how obvious it looks with everyone being unserious ****ups

kerry mvp

or carl i think, after we should let [mattson] know he'll be delayed, oh he'll be heavily ****ing delayed loool

Yeah, I don’t think any of them end up winning. I’m more curious how much they’ll end up losing. I doubt the poor house but maybe for Greg or Tom lol
