Well played, Pardo. 96 is a hell of a run. If we could all only be so lucky.

Mostly new cast and Chris Pratt, right? Still sucked? I'll check it out anyway. Haven't watched an episode of this show since... I don't even know. Louis CK's episode probably.

I'm a big fan of Pratt, but he kinda sucked

Pratt was pretty bad, that weird filmed sitcomy bit was one of the worst I've ever seen, but it wasn't nearly as bad I thought it would be. I dug enough of it. Sarah Silverman next week should be fun.

Darrell Hammond was pretty bad I thought. Too quiet and no enthusiasm when introducing the cast. He needs to pick it up.

its like they wanted him to be Pardo, but not quite. he did Pardo on some names, but not on others. I agree, that was crap.

The episode was fine to me. Pratt is for lack of more manly word, charming, and was funny enough. Pete Davidson might be a star (although that was a common bit. we've all played that game) Che messed up but held it together, and is already more of a personality than Jost. The Girl you wished you hadn't talked to is one of their best characters in a decade. The NFL skits were solid. I absolutely love Mooney/Bennett taped segments and I don't care what anyone says.

I'd rather watch Pratt than the loud fat girl. Why was she in every sketch? Mooney segments are always good.

So it seems it only takes them 3 months to write a solid episode. Should only do like 4 a year. Liked or didn't mind everything except that weird thing on the old Friends set. Spent half of it trying to figure out if they were spoofing the guys from Friends using that apartment.

Pete Davidson looked and sounded so familiar and then when I googled him, and when I saw where he was from finally figured out that he was at an event my friend threw a couple of years ago. It was at a comedy place, but he wasn't performing, just hanging out. He was pretty loudly cracking jokes and making fun of people though, so I guess he was kinda performing. I remember because we all thought he was too young to be allowed in the place. Anyway, that's my who gives a **** story.

Had I been writing that, it would turn out that the guys were registered sex offenders living together.

Does the Bad Boys sketch appeal to people who watch Tim and Eric? I don't watch, but it seems like the kind of thing that would fit into the anti-comedy genre. I expect the Good Neighbor taped stuff to be polarizing among fans and things like that need to be on the show.

I'm not sure. Some people really, really loved it. I thought it had a certain thing about it, but I don't care about that thing.

I do like T&E quite a lot, though.

The sitcom was probably the highlight of the episode for me, although that's not saying much.

Kind of surprised they gave Michael Che the anchor job since I thought he was pretty bad on the Daily Show. But I'm willing to give him a chance. He did ok after the disastrous first couple sentences.

I'm perfectly happy to gamble on more unknowns & a bunch of new writers doing weird new ****. As far as the cast Kate McKinnon & Taran Killam are great but I don't care for any of the rest of the repertory players (Moynihan's okay I guess). I'm hoping for a lot of turnover even if it means they go through some terrible cast members.

People really seem to love Aidy Bryant so it looks like she'll be sticking around a while. I don't get the infatuation with her at all. Being loud and peppy is enough I guess.

This will probably be the first season I watch more then 2 eps, this and next weeks. But had they gone and did a huge renewal, I'd probably watch the entire season just too see how it all comes together, or completely falls apart.

It's pretty weird that they brought in Sasheer Zameda to be "the black woman" in response to some criticism mid-season last year about how the show is so white male orientedm yet it's Leslie Jones, the female black writer who was brought in at the same time, who, through two appearances on WU and a one line cameo in the football sketch this week has made a much larger impact than Sasheer.

Has Sasheer done even one memorable thing yet? Why isn't Leslie a cast member? She's ****ing crushed it both times on WU, and obviously is a big character. I could understand if maybe the one thing that's she's done is ALL she does, since it would get pretty old quick, but then again plenty of SNL cast members did pretty much just one kind of thing and not only
made it work during their run on the show, but made a career of it post-SNL. Sandler, Norm MacDonald, etc.

Big fan of the weird 80's sitcom thing. Yes it was still missing something, but to have minds on that show that would at least think of something like that, and to have enough persuasive power to get Lorne's OK to air it is a good sign.

Liked the new kid Davidson. Strong first bit on WU, and clearly a likable young dude.

Pete Davidson was the highlight of the episode for me, enjoyed the bar skit between Bryant and Pratt, everything else was forgettable IMO.

I really liked the superhero and sitcom sketches, weekend update was good too - I think Che is funny and my guess is they will eventually work Jost out of WU. I think Darryl Hammond was fine - I think he is just trying hard to not imitate the legend he is replacing... They just need to turn his mic up a little is all imo.

Our NBC channel runs a classic SNL episode every week before the current episode. This week was the 7th episode with Richard Pryor hosting. It was 1975 and the show was taped live. It was just called Saturday Night. Anyway, it wasn't very funny, but I was shocked at some of the topics. Race was the constant topic. There was a bit between Pryor and Chase where they took turns saying every racist word in the book about each other, including the N word. I was surprised at how edgy the show was, but also how unfunny most of the stuff was.

Yeah I find the "classic" episodes to be painfully unfunny, which is why I think it's kind of odd how everyone always talks about the "decline" of the show. I think people just view the years when they first started watching with rose colored glasses, when in reality the show has probably never been that great, you just thought it was when you had a teenager sense of humor.

i'll make this statement unsure of the response it gets back - John Belushi isn't funny.

he was before my time, im sure he's very influential and he's a hero to people older than me... but he's not funny. whatever he did has now been done 100x better.

i agree with Evan, it's all about what era you are from. SNL was probably never great, even in the seasons your are fond of. The late 90s could have very well been the peak of the show. People like to say the early 90s b/c of all the talent that came from those seasons, but a few of those guys had almost no impact whatsoever on SNL. Chris Rock did nothing for one. name one memorable Chris Rock sketch.

I make the mistake of going to the cesspool that is the imdb boards and there are literally 5 "worst episode ever" threads after every episode. every one. i bet it would have been the same if the internet was around back then. this goes for a lot of shows, but it seems the most extreme for SNL... and Family Guy/Simpsons actually.

I always liked "The Dark Side With Nat X", though I do agree that Chris Rock was pretty disappointing on SNL overall.

I don't know. Is that kind of like saying that Babe Ruth is fat and would suck at baseball today? I kind of get what your saying though. I do find some of his stuff really good from back then and was a fan of the Samurai skits. There was a lot of unfunny stuff also (I have the first few seasons on DVD).

It's funny how far we've come with what can be shown on TV that wasn't before and what can't be now that was then. More cursing, more nudity, but anything that would insult a group of people is out. A show like All in the Family would never be allowed on TV today. I'm not making a judgement that anything is right or wrong, but interesting in the differences.
