As somewhat of an aside - I usually don't care if a series doesn't come back (there is plenty of replacement viewing out there) - but this series has such a brilliant conceptual backbone, and it's executed so well, I'd be disappointed if they cancel it.

Also - and this is obvious, but it really hits home for people who live in LA (I wonder if Los Feliz Slim watches this, gotta ask him). While I'm not a struggling actor/writer/creative talent, I'm in the media industry and alot of my friends are in the world of the Party Down caterers. The series handles / portrays the struggle to become successful in Hollywood with alot of grace and of course humor.

Ah yah, need to clarify. Meant currently. Not sure where they rank in my all time list. They'd probably be near the top somewhere below arrested development.

1. Arrested Development
2. Seinfeld
3. Community
4. Sports Night
5. NewsRadio

Party Down wouldn't make any top 10 list, especially if it ends now, but it's very good.

that seems absurdly high for community after one season which started slow.

They assume that everyone who watches Party Down is either 1) a fan of True Blood or 2) has googled Lizzy Caplan and seen her naked on metacafe.

Hm - Top 5 30-Minute Series Of All Time*

1) Seinfeld
2) The Wonder Years
3) Cheers
4) Frasier
5) Sports Night

*reserve the right to modify this list at any time; list excludes animated series; US broadcast only; I bet MASH would be on this list if I were like, 50 years old; Arrested Development should probably be on this list instead of Sports Night.

I restricted my list to live action too, otherwise The Simpsons would be on it. And yeah if we're going non-US then The Office is in over NR.

Yes, I love Community. That one season is already funnier than most entire series. But I'll admit to some recency bias. It's proably not a top 5 lifetime but for me they just killed it for 24 straight episodes. I think Cheers and Frasier are highly overrated. Wonder Years is underrated and very solid.

Was with you al the way PJ till you went and trashed Cheers, but I do agree about Frasier.

Joker - yeah, hence the footnotes for US only and only live action. Simpsons and The Office both probably make a more inclusive Top 5 list for me.

I have a nostalgic thing for Cheers. I think Frasier was on for wayyyy too long - but IIRC the series had this insane run of like 4 or 5 seasons straight of really great writing, like head and shoulders above most sitcom writing and execution. Hence, the nod.

They've been showing all the old Curbs on TV Land this month and it really doesn't hold up all that well. The first season, their improv was still really green and you had a lot of weird pauses, the actors thinking of stuff to say, a lot of repeating what the other person says... there are isolated scenes in every season that are as funny as anything in TV history, and season 6 was great, but yeah I mean it isn't top 5 for me. Especially compared to Seinfeld, which does hold up and was more consistently hilarious imo.

I watched season 1 of True Blood for that very reason but you can never have enough so I was hoping they would take advantage of being on Starz. She was smoking in True Blood too, not just nude scenes.

Jesus, the finale only drew 74,000 viewers. The Gravity finale had 54,000 viewers.

Yeah but that 74k number isn't really accurate because of how many platforms the finale was available on before the finale aired and immediately after. When you factor in you could get it on demand a week before it aired, on the starz website, netflix streaming, and dvr views it was likely much higher although still pathetic.

Makes sense. Without Henry and Kyle, the show would change so much anyway. Can't say I'm shocked by the news but no doubt the show could have still been good. It was a nice 20 episodes and will probably last as a cult hit for a while. I mean The Office was only 12 episodes (plus xmas special) and look what happened there.
